UCF’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film is an accredited undergraduate production program that combines independent digital filmmaking, practical industry skills and a foundational education in cinema studies. We seek students with a record of excellence who can demonstrate rigorous commitment to their craft and a passion for advancing their creative goals. Based in Orlando, at Florida’s largest university, the program offers narrative, documentary, and experimental filmmaking as well as a specialized screenwriting track.
Applying to the Film BFA is a competitive process and only a select number of students are invited to join the program each year. Applicants must be currently enrolled at UCF in the Film BA and the application process requires submission of a portfolio highlighting the student’s creative work. Once accepted into the Film BFA, it will take a minimum of two years to complete the program. In an enclosed studio, Keith, a young photographer navigates a relationship with Luna that drifts between creation and desire. As Keith becomes obsessed with capturing Luna through his camera, Luna reflects on their exchanges and their struggle to truly connect. Over several nights, the boundaries between artist and muse begin to dissolve, taking down the subconscious barriers that once set them apart. As the morning sun comes in, detachment returns. Leaving behind questions about the true depth of their human connection outside of art. Juan Pablo Montagut is a Colombian filmmaker, originally from Bogotá. His early fascination with photography evolved into a deep passion for cinematic storytelling. Through moments on the road, reflections from the riders, and the communities they encounter along the way, the film captures the physical and emotional journey behind the organization’s annual cross-country ride. What begins as a simple journey deepens with each challenge the riders encounter. When Timothy Jenkins clocks out of his 9–5, he transforms into Eli Knight — a professional wrestler chasing a future with the WWE. Through training, sacrifice, and the toll from years on the independent circuit, When the Bell Rings reveals the unseen work behind a dream with no promise of success. It is a story of discipline, resilience and relentless hunger as a young wrestler pursues the moment that could change his life forever. Louis Jenkins is a documentary filmmaker who believes everyone has a story worth telling. Drawn to character-driven storytelling, he enjoys finding emotional moments in ordinary lives and hopes to continue making documentaries that connect with audiences long after the credits roll. About the BFA
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film emphasizes authorship in Film Production to empower our graduates for lifelong success in a variety of filmmaking and screenwriting modalities. Working with a diverse faculty in an intensive tutorial environment, students author original works, collaborate with a creative team, and develop their personal voice. Graduates will leave equipped with a broad array of skills to compete in the film industry or continue their studies in graduate school.
The Film BFA is a limited-access, 4-year degree program that shares a cinema studies and production core with the Film BA program. After completing foundational requirements as Film BA majors, students can choose to apply for entry into the BFA via a portfolio review in their second year. Once accepted, students can design a plan of study for different modalities in narrative, documentary, and experimental filmmaking as well as screenwriting.
As part of their Capstone experience, Film BFA students organize a curated exhibition of creative works from the Film BA and Film BFA degree programs. They also learn about the professional practice to help better prepare themselves for life after film school, navigating a career in industry and the arts.
