Dr. Steve J. Collins is an assisociate professor who regularly teaches international media, news reporting, communication law, and research methods. He’s been published in such journals as Mass Communication & SocietyNewspaper Research JournalJournalism & Mass Communication Educator, and College Media Review. In 2010, UCF gave Collins a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award. He has approximately nine years of experience as a journalist, including four years of fulltime reporter. He was twice named one of the top five sports columnists in Missouri, and the Kansas Press Association honored him for his work as a business journalist. Collins is the director of the Institute for African Communication Studies at the University of Central Florida’s Nicholson School of Communication. He spent the 2011-2012 academic year conducting research in Uganda and Kenya as a Fulbright Scholar. His research interests include African news and production, journalism education, journalism and technology, and mass media audiences. He earned a doctoral degree in Communication from Syracuse University after earning a master of arts in mass communication and a bachelor of arts in journalism at the University of Iowa.
