Clila Magen is a lecturer at the School of Communication in Bar Ilan University, Israel. She is also a research fellow at the Center for International Communication at the University since 2012. Prior to joining academia Dr. Magen served as a spokesperson for the Chair of the Committee of Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Knesset (Israel’s Parliament) and as an editor of “Diploma,” an independent Israeli student monthly magazine. She received several scholarships and prizes, among them Bar Ilan University’s Doctoral Fellowship of Excellence. From 2009 to 2011, she was a visiting scholar at the Communication Research Center, College of Communication, Boston University.

 

Her fields of research include public relations, crisis communication and nation branding as well as media and national security, in particular focusing on the unique relationship between intelligence services and the media. She teaches courses (BA, MA) on contemporary issues in public relations, crisis communication, place branding and Israeli media. Clila Magen has published her studies on crisis communication and public relations in leading journals in communications and public relations and in edited books. She contributes op-eds to the printed and on-line media and has presented her research in many academic conferences around the world. She is the author of a book on intelligence services and the media in Israel, which is based on extensive research on the topic.
