Dan Shepherd is a long-time network news veteran, most recently working as a producer for NBC News in their Miami bureau before leaving the network in late 2016.  He served many roles there while out in the field, including the network’s Coordinating Producer for Space Shuttle launch coverage before the program ended in 2011.  During his travels throughout the United States, Canada, The Bahamas, South America and the Caribbean, he has extensively covered weather disasters like Hurricanes Andrew & Katrina, along with the most recent major hurricane to hit the Southeast, Hurricane Matthew.  In the past, he was heavily involved in covering other weather-related events like floods, tornadoes and brush fires, while also coordinating breaking news events like the riots in Ferguson, MO, Baton Rouge, LA and Charlotte, NC, along with multiple mass-casualty events, including the recent Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando.  He has served in various roles coordinating every aspect of information dissemination to the viewing public about natural disasters in a timely manner, while also leading multi-dimensional news teams across broadcast and digital platforms, working the logistical needs for correspondents, editorial staffs, satellite operations and ENG camera teams. He earned an Emmy for his work during the 2013 tornadoes that struck Moore, Okla., while also receiving team coverage nominations for the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City in 2001 and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans during the 2005 hurricane season.

Dan received his Journalism degree from the University of Oklahoma and is currently working on his Master’s degree Public Safety in Emergency Management from Capella University.  He lives in the Orlando area with his wife.
