Biography

Devin Monnens is a game designer and game historian who has been teaching since 2009. He is interested in how games can create narrative and meaning through game mechanics, level design, and world-building. He is currently working on a book on the history of Japanese video games.
 

Research Interests

Favorite games include The Witness, Shadow of the Colossus, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Metroid, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Enjoys reading literature, particularly Umberto Eco, Italo Calvino, and Michael Crichton. Interested in hard SF comic books.
 

Recent Research Activities

Researching history of Japanese video games, Pong clones, and The Sumerian Game.
