Biography

Steve J. Collins is an associate professor who regularly teaches international media, news reporting, communication law and research methods. He’s been published in such journals as Mass Communication & Society, Newspaper Research Journal, Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, and College Media Review. In 2010, UCF gave Collins a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award. He has approximately nine years of experience as a journalist, including four years of full-time reporting. He was twice named one of the top five sports columnists in Missouri, and the Kansas Press Association honored him for his work as a business journalist.

He spent the 2011-2012 academic year conducting research in Uganda and Kenya as a Fulbright Scholar. His research interests include African news and production, journalism education, journalism and technology and mass media audiences. He earned a doctoral degree in communication from Syracuse University after earning a master’s degree in mass communication and a bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Iowa.
