16-year old Surprisingly Survives A Five hour flight to Hawaii in flights Wheel well!!!

A 16-year-old apparently hitched a ride from San Jose, California, to Maui, Hawaii, in the landing-gear wheel well of a Boeing 767, Hawaiian Airlines Sunday morning . The first sign something was off was when the ground crew at Kahului Airport in Maui noticed a boy wandering the tarmac, dazed and confused. The FBI was called in to investigate how he rode in the tiny cramped compartment for almost five hours, at altitudes that reached 38,000 feet, without oxygen and under subzero temperatures. Experts say,”it sounds really incredible,” said aviation expert Jeff Wise. “Being in a wheel well is like all of a sudden being on top of Mount Everest, between the oxygen depletion and the cold, life expectancy “is measured in only minutes,” Wise said.

The FAA’s Civil Aerospace Medical Institute says a total of 105 people are known to have attempted to fly inside wheel wells on 94 flights. Of those, only 25 made it through, including a 9-year-old child, which is a survival rate of only 24%. One of the flights went as high as 39,000 feet. “Someone could slip into unconsciousness so that the body cools and “the central nervous system is preserved,” said CNN aviation expert Michael Kay. The 16- year old boy told authorities he was from Santa Clara, California, and ran away from home Sunday morning, said FBI Special Agent Tom Simon. Investigators have surveillance camera footage of him hopping the fence at Mineta San Jose International Airport. There’s also camera footage of him walking across the ramp in San Jose toward the Hawaiian aircraft, the California airport said, he told investigators he crawled into the wheel well of the plane and lost consciousness when the plane took off.

There’s also camera footage of him walking across the ramp in San Jose toward the Hawaiian aircraft, the California airport said, he told investigators he crawled into the wheel well of the plane and lost consciousness when the plane took off. In conclusion, i think other than the 16- year old boys health conditions, most importantly this needs to be looked at as a security concern after 911 terrorist attack because if it was that easy for a young boy to get into a U.S aircraft without even entering the airport, it is definitely something that needs to be closely paid attention to at a higher level of security not just in San Jose, Californias airport but nationwide. In addition, “Clearly there’s a big security breach here, which in the post 9/11 world order is a concern,” said Kay, the aviation expert, to get past all sorts of people apparently unnoticed is “a physical feat,” he said. Just when we thought security was a pain in our butts in airport’s in the U.S. we must look forward to higher security measures after this incident, but in the end i rather get a headache going through the airport because of greater security measures being taken, than put more lives at risk for being prone to another terrorist attack because not enough security measures are being taken.

Kids Get Codeine in ER Despite Risks

Despite recommended limits on codeine use in children, the potent painkiller is prescribed for children in at least half a million emergency room visits each year, a study suggests. Use of the drug in that setting is hardly rampant, just 3 percent of kids’ ER visits resulted in a codeine prescription in 2010, the 10-year study found. But with more than 25 million ER visits by children each year, the authors say far too many kids are getting the drug when better options are available.

Codeine is an opiate drug and a genetic variation makes some people metabolize it too quickly, potentially resulting in dangerous side effects including excessive sleepiness and difficulty breathing. The Food and Drug Administration issued its strictest warning last year about a rare risk for life-threatening complications or death in children given the drug after certain surgeries. It advises using codeine for children’s pain only if anticipated benefits outweigh the risks. Another genetic variation makes the drug ineffective for pain relief in as many as a third of patients. Codeine was once commonly used for coughs, but the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends against that use because of the risks and no evidence it relieves coughs.

Injuries and respiratory symptoms are the top reasons for children’s ER visits. The study authors analyzed 2001-10 national data on ER visits for kids aged 3 to 17. The portion of visits where codeine was prescribed dipped slightly during the study. But the authors estimated the yearly number of codeine visits ranged from almost 560,000 to 877,000. Information on any side effects was not included in the data.

South Korean Ferry Sinks with Hundreds of Students on Board

This story sounds like one of my worst nightmares. To me, a ferry ride seems totally safe. Even if it were to start sinking surely nobody ever dies on a ferry, right? That is not the case in South Korea. 87 people are already confirmed dead and 215 others remain missing. What is even worse is most of the passengers were high school students.

When the ferry began to sink the captain of the ship, Lee Jon-Seok delayed evacuation because he felt rescue ships would not arrive and the water would be too cold. Now he and six other crewmembers have been detained and considered murderers.  When the ferry went down many passengers were still in their rooms, under the captain’s orders. Now search and rescue has sent divers in to find missing people.

They believe the boat sank as a result of a turn taken too sharply which caused the boast to list. When the captain finally made the call to evacuate several crewmembers have said they were unsure as to whether the message was relayed to passengers in the chaos of the situation.

The principal of the high school on board, Kang Min-kyu, that was in charge of the overnight trip for the students committed suicide after the accident. Families of the students are waiting impatiently while government exaggerates the number of rescuers and failing to communicate what the families need to do.

It is a heartbreaking situation that is particularly sad especially after the missing Malaysian airplane, which is still missing, and now this.

High School Student Asks Miss America To Prom and Gets Suspended From School, but the Social Media Backlash May Change Things

A senior at Central York High School in Pennsylvania caused a whirlwind of online outrage after he was suspended for not taking school administrators’ orders seriously and asking Miss America to the prom during a school assembly Thursday.

Patrick Farves, 18, walked up to the pageant princess, Nina Davuluri, as she addressed students at Central York High School to discuss the relevance of diversity, math and science studies. In a gap between his classmates’ questions, Patrick handed Davuluri a purple plastic flower and said, “Miss America, I have a question. Will you go to prom with me?”

He did not get a date out of the prank, but he did get attention from the whole nation after a three-day school suspension caused hundreds of supporters to come to his defense on Twitter and other social media sites, launching the hashtag #FreePatty.

Patrick is the class clown, and word of his plan to ask Davuluri to the school dance had spread days before her visit to the school. That’s why an administrator took Patrick aside 10 minutes before the assembly, telling him it would not be the appropriate venue for his question.

On TODAY, a TV show that aired Monday, the jokester said he does not regret disregarding the school’s warning. “This is kind of what I do. I’m kind of known for this stuff, just like, pranks, standing out, jokes with my friends,” Farves said. “I’m a real goofy and standout character.” What a douche.

Though he understands and “sort of” respects the school’s decision to suspend him, his concern over possible suspension never made him reconsider the idea.

“I had looked at it like, this was a now-or-never type thing. This was a once-in-a-lifetime chance,” the Farves said. “I did it anyway, and I knew I would get in some type of trouble. I can totally understand and respect the disciplinary actions that had to be taken.”

Overtime NHL Playoff games lead to increased viewership

The first round of the 2014 National Hockey League playoffs is underway this week and several teams from huge cities are competing to bring the Stanley Cup to their home base. The NHL has never been as popular as other playoffs in regards to market share on television.

MLB, NBA and of course the NFL all bring mass viewership to their games. This year’s NHL playoffs can hopefully change this. These playoffs already have brought an increase of hits, shots, and possibly the best stat: fights. Team’s from huge cities are beattling this year: Tampa, St. Louis, Dallas, Boston, LA, New York, and more. But these towns are all known to be large sports towns.

Every single on of these games has been sold out according to NHL.com, and the games have been incredible close. Aside from 3 games, so far every playoff game in the last two weeks has been decided by 1-2 goals. The viewership has noticed. Not only are the games on several other public channels this year making for an ease in tuning in, but also these cities previously mentioned have enormous television deals.

My hope is that hockey becomes one of America’s household names for sports this year. Hockey has always been the little brother to these other sports and for no reason. The sport has a history larger than either of these sports. Of course the sport is not as large in some places where ice isn’t present. But teams from these areas like LA and Tampa in the playoffs will soon change the opinions of these residents.

Government’s Problem with Militias: The repercussion of backing down

Recently in Nevada, a cattle rancher who has refused to pay the federal government for the use of their land, had his cattle returned to him by the FBI as protestors and militia members threatened to cause mass violence and loss of life on both sides. Federal agents decided to step down as opposed to risk armed confrontation with various right-winged militia members who made their way to the rancher’s aid.

The federal government believes that the cost to taxpayers for the use of the land without permission ranges to the millions of dollars over the decades. After failing to adhere to a court order, agents started to seize the cattle on federal land, which sparked protests and the appearance of various militia groups with the sole purpose of stopping the government’s execution of the law. It is totally reasonable that the federal agents stepped down from an armed conflict of a large group of American citizens. Such violence would only give like-minded people the reason they desperately want to resort to violence against government officials and organizations.

However, with the government backing away from the fight, they have given these militias a victory that they will use as a president to continue their resistance of elected government. There is really no quick victory the U.S. government can have in a situation such as this. If they fight, they will be killing the American public they are suppose to serve, while if they do nothing, these militias will continue their bullying and destructive ways against the very system they use to justify their actions. Our only real hope is that popular opinion of these militias will define them as bullies, and drain any public support they may have.

How Cadbury Eggs Are Made in The Factory And Other Facts

Cadbury is a British multinational confectionery company located in Uxbridge, London, and operates in more than fifty countries worldwide. It is owned by Mondelēz International and is the second largest confectionery brand in the world behind Wrigley’s. It is known for it’s dairy milk chocolate, the roses selection box, and the infamous creme filled eggs we’ve become so used to seeing each Easter.

The company only sells Cadbury Cremeggs from January through Easter but production is done 364 days a year ensuring that the candies people know and love are ready. About 350 million of these eggs are made a year sold all around the world.

But how are these candy delicacies made? The first step is to ship in chocolate crumb, and paste made from reduced cocoa liquor, milk, and sugar. These ingredients are ground up and mixed with cacao butter then put in trays that shake as they move to settle the mix.

The creamy white and yellow fillings are made of sugar, water, glucose, syrup, and egg powder. Food coloring is added to give the middle a yoke like look. The chocolates are then put into a mold closing machine and each half of the eggs are squished together to make 1, complete chocolate egg. The foil is put on by small mechanical arms and viola, a Cadbury chocolate egg is born.

For some strange reason the eggs made in the United States and Canada are a little bit smaller than the eggs delivered to other parts of the world weighing 34 grams. Every time you enjoy a bite of these candy delights, know that there’s someone in Europe enjoying a few grams more.

Saudi Arabia begins construction of next tallest building in the world.

The “Kingdom Tower” will soon become Saudi Arabia’s newest shiny toy and the tallest man-made structure in the world; a title that has been hold by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, since 2010. The Kingdom Tower represents a SR4.6 billion investment ($1.23 billion), as well as the centerpiece and first phase of “Kingdom City”, the $20Million; 17-million-square-foot metropolis, located just north of Jeddah.

If completed as planned, the record-breaking skyscraper will overlook the Red Sea at a staggering height of 1,000 meters. Four times taller than The Shrad and over 500 feet taller than Khalifa Tower. Half a million cubic meters of concrete and about 80 thousand tons of steel are expected to be used during construction, set to begin next week. Once finished, Kingdom Tower will have 200 floors, including an observatory at 1,600 feet, and will cover an area of more than 500,000 square meters.

Saudi Arabian prince, Al-Waleed bin Talal is creator and leader of the project, as well as chairman of Kingdom Holding Company. Al-Waleed is the nephew of King Abdullah, and naturally, the wealthiest Arab in the Middle East. American architect, Adrian Smith is responsible for the design of Kingdom Tower, who seems pretty popular around the Arabian princes since he also created the blueprint for Burj Khalifa, back in 2004.

The new Kingdom City will consist of a 5.3 million-square-diameter of urban development, with offices, commercial centers, housing, hotels and more. Although Al-Waleed sees his project as giving the city an icon that represents the nation’s wealth and power, plans for the “royal city” have caused some heavy polarized feedback based on the economic predictions that negative financial consequences will result from this project. CEO of Jeddah Economic Company, Waleed Abdul Jaleel Batterjee, disregards these accusations by promising, “the project itself will set the world’s sights on our beloved Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (…) Furthermore, the project will help create hundreds of jobs for our Saudi countrymen.”

Kingdom Tower is set to be finished and inaugurated in 2019 and will undoubtedly become self-proclaimed winner of the 21st Century Middle East pissing match.

Those Affected by Ferry Sinking Beg for Faster Way to Recover Loved One’s Bodies

On April 17, 2014 a South Korean ferry sunk carrying 476 passengers, 325 of these were high-school students who were heading on their way to a four-day field trip. There have been 174 survivors who have been rescued, all within the first few hours of the sinking. Most of the relatives of those involved in the disaster who have still not been rescued have lost all hope of their families’ safe return. These people are simply hoping to retrieve the bodies of their loved ones to avoid further water damage.  One of these insistent parents is Yoo Keong-geun, father of an 11th-grader who was aboard the ferry. He has been quoted saying “Until yesterday, nobody could even talk about dragging the ship out of the water” –as this could put any survivors at risk- “but now a lot of people say it. It’s just so we can see our kids’ faces one last time before their bodies become more damaged underwater.”

The frightening part about this whole scenario is that several survivors have been quoted stating that no evacuation plan was ever placed in order. They believe that those who heeded these orders to remain in one place were likely trapped on board.  One of the crew members stated that “The ship is tipped over too much. It’s impossible to evacuate.” Had the ship not been so tipped over many lives could have potentially been saved. As a result, many of the families of those affected by the incident are staying in a gymnasium about 30 minutes away, but most are camped out by the port. The whole community has come together and provided these people with free food and cots. The tents span about a quarter mile with the Red Cross and food trucks scattered around the area. There is a list of names that is constantly updating with the names of the victims. Yoo and the other parents are discussing ways to speed up the search for their loved ones in hopes of being able to see them one last time.
