Seven Babies’ Bodies Are Found In A Garage In Utah, and The Community and Investigators Want Answers

Megan Huntsman, 39, is accused of murdering her babies after they were born between 1996 and 2006, said investigators. She was taken in to custody Sunday on six counts of murder. It was not immediately apparent if Huntsman has an lawyer or why there were only six counts of murder and not seven.

This gruesome case has caused a series of questions about how these murders occurred despite Huntsman living what neighbors said seemed like a normal life. Police refused to comment on a motive and on what was said during an interview with police.

Her estranged husband made the discovery while cleaning out the garage after recently getting out of prison. Police do not believe he was aware of the murders and he is not a person of interest at this time.

Police Capt. Michael Roberts said officers responded to a phone call from him Saturday about a dead baby, and then they found the six other bodies.

Megan Huntsman was booked into the Utah County jail on suspicion of killing six of her newborn children over the past ten years.

Family and neighbors identified the separated husband as Darren West, who had been in prison on drug-related charges. Roberts said investigators believe West and Huntsman were together when the babies were born.

The infants’ bodies were sent to the Utah medical examiner’s office for tests, including one to find the cause of death. DNA samples taken from the suspect and her husband will determine whether or not the two are the parents, as the authorities believe.

Pro-Russian protesters take over a police building in Ukrainian city!!!

This morning Pro-Russian protesters took over a police building in the eastern Ukrainian city of Horlivka. Protesters confronted police and walked through the building, which had small fires burning and broken windows. Onlookers shouted at a severely beaten man in a police uniform as he was taken to an ambulance. As a result to this violent terrorist act Ukraine deployed forces to stop Pro-Russia groups. I think the main concern here is to discover if this is just an act of terrorism to overpower Ukrainian cities and in the end overrule other Ukrainian cities.

In addition, a new complication for the government in Kiev arises. Acting President, Oleksandr Turchynov, had given pro-Russian protesters in other eastern Ukrainian cities until 2 a.m. ET to disarm or face a “full-scale anti-terrorist operation” by Ukraine’s armed forces. But there was no movement at the regional government building in Donetsk, which has been occupied for more than a week. In Slaviansk, pro-Russian protesters milled around with makeshift shields outside the occupied police station’s. One of the affected cities, Horlivka, with a population of about 300,000, became at least the 10th city or town in eastern Ukraine where activists have taken over security or government buildings in recent days.

In conclusion, the city of Kiev blames Moscow for the unrest in the latest series of events ratcheting up tensions between Ukraine and Russia, which Kiev accuses of fomenting trouble in Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine. The main reason Kiev blames Moscow is because after the Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovych, backed out of a deal with the European Union in November in favor of closer ties with Russia and after months of protests in Kiev led to his ouster in February. Finally, it is revealed that the distrust among the population in eastern Ukraine is the base of Yanukovych’s power, which grew as the new national government shifted rapidly in a pro-Western direction. Shortly after pro-Russian elements occupied the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which Russia annexed in March and since then, pro-Russian protesters have taken to the streets in eastern Ukraine and in some cases stormed and occupied buildings. I think the only force that will stop this chaos is “Justice,” as we in the U.S.A say Justice must be served, and also in order to bring the Trust back between these cities because trust is key especially in this situation to stop all the corruption.

Oscar Pistorius’ Defense Seems to be Crumbling

It was a heated fourth day of grueling cross-examination in Courtroom GD, with the Blade Runner breaking down several times as he repeatedly rehashed the minute details of the pre-dawn hours of Valentine’s Day last year, when he shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The prosecution says it was pre-meditated murder. The Paralympian remains adamant that he believed Steenkamp to be an intruder. The athlete says he did not aim his 9mm Taurus at any point, neither at an intruder, nor at Steenkamp, but out of fear fired four shots through a bathroom door from where he says he heard a noise.

“Was it just lucky that your gun was pointed in the direction of the noise?” prosecuting attorney Gerrie Nel asked sarcastically. “How would that be lucky? She lost her life, my lady!” Pistorius replied to the judge, becoming hysterical, his body heaving with sobs. “No, Mr. Pistorius, you now try to get emotional again,” said Nel, unsympathetic. “It’s not worth your while.”

It was the most damaging day of testimony for the athlete yet. Isolated on the stand, and barely managing to keep his emotions in check, Pistorius’ responses to Nel’s non-chronological questioning were confused, at times hesitant, and seemingly ill-advised. Nel’s questioning goes to the heart of the murder-accused’s defense, which, under the weight of legal interpretation, appeared to crumble.

The Paralympian’s defense has, until this point, been based on the principle of “putative self defense,” whereby he could be found guilty of “culpable homicide”, the South African equivalent of manslaughter, if he fired at a perceived intruder because he felt his life was under threat.

The athlete returns to the stand Tuesday, for a fifth day of interrogation by the prosecution.

Expectant mother pregnant with wrong embryos after IVF disaster

A fertility clinic in Rome is under fire after a mistake has led to one women being pregnant with another couple’s child. The Italian couple were informed in March that they are not pregnant with the embryos created with the women’s eggs. Instead, they will now give birth to a child biologically matched to one of the other three couples who were seeking treatment at the clinic at the same time. Alarmingly, the clinic was unaware of the issue until a routine scan showed that the baby did not genetically match it’s parents.

The health ministry of Italy has launched an investigation into the operations of the clinic. Beatrice Lorezin, Health Minister of Italy said that the national standards of assisted fertilization were “very rigorous” and are based upon accepted European standards.

This raises a number of serious ethics questions. Such as; which couple will get to keep the baby? If a paternity case ensues who has the rights to this child?

It is unknown if any of the other couples seeking treatment have become pregnant. What if the biological parents of this child are unable to conceive?

This isn’t the first case that a laboratory mix-up has occurred in an IVF clinic. The were a case similar to this in California but the mother was not told until after the birth of her son that biologically, he was somebody else’s child.

There has been a number of procedures implemented to prevent risks of these situations. Such has manual double checking of each specimen. Which is known as double witnessing. There has also been an increase in technological advancements that further reduce these risks. Although these reiterates the questions; how can this kind of mix-up happen? Does it happen more often and go undetected? Which couple will raise this baby?

Princess Lacey Loses Battle With Cancer

The NCAA tournament is over now and while Kentucky and UConn put on a great show for the championship game the real standout from the tournament was an eight-year-old girl named Lacey Holsworth, or Princess Lacey as many knew her. Lacey passed away this week from the cancer she had been battling the last two years. Lacey inspired many throughout the NCAA tournament. Michigan State star, and NBA-bound, Adreian Payne formed a bond with Lacey two years ago when he was visiting the hospital that was treating her for neuroblastoma.

The two grew very close and Lacey often visited Payne for his games. She was present this year when Michigan State won the Big Ten title. Payne even carried Lacey with him up the ladder to cut the net. On senior night Payne carried her around the court and he ended up scoring a team record for most points scored during a tournament game that night. Payne said she was a huge motivation because she was always happy when he played well. Only four days prior to her death Payne brought Lacey to Dallas, Texas to judge a dunking contest.

She was diagnosed back in 2011 with a tumor in her kidney when doctors also found a tumor on her spine. Eventually the cancer spread to her neck, head, and pelvis. This weekend, only a few days after her death, Payne was honored at the John R. Wooden Award Gala for their friendship. Payne spoke softly of Lacey in accepting his award, “She taught me to preserve through anything and just be strong.”

A Review of “In The Hot Zone” by Kevin Sites

“Instead of telling us what we already know, Sites has done something remarkable, delivering the sort of fresh and insightful human stories…that we seldom hear.” – Columbia Journalism Review

This quote was the last stimulus that pushed me to choose In The Hot Zone in order to carry out this project. Published by Kevin Sites in 2007. The further I was reading into the text, this book acted as a key to reality, a key that has not only opened my eyes, but shown and proved me that what we see on the news is not as close of what really happens in reality.

The book begins with Kevin being sent to coexist for a period of time with a group of Marines at the camp Abu Ghraib, near the camp Falluja (First Marine Expeditionary Force headquarters), while covering the events on that area. He describes to get a long with the Marines, however one specific event given in the war zone would change the path of his career for the next year.

The problematic event titled as “The Mosque Shooting” had taken place when Sites and his designated group of marines enter a small village after having a shooting. The men arrive to a mosque, where an Iraqi wounded insurgent is laying on the ground, and a marine affirms that he is faking his death, suddenly the marine decides to shoot a bullet straight to his head without any questioning. In fact, Sites had all recorded in his video camera, and since he was the owner of the tape, he started to have a moral dilemma regarding what to do with that tape.

He knew that if the NBC reached the tape, he would had been asked to get rid of it, but as a freelancer journalist, his duty is to let the world know about what is really happening in the war zone.

After this event, Kevin Sites accepts a new job offer from Yahoo! and throw himself into a whole new adventure covering more than 20 conflicting countries as a freelancer.

Late Season Luck for the #1 seed in the NBA East

The Indiana Pacers started out this season with high expectations after losing an absolute heartbreaker of a game seven last year against the Miami Heat in the Eastern conference finals. The Pacers have worked relentlessly this season to stay amongst the top, not only in the east but in the whole league. The NBA All-Star weekend marks the halfway point of the long 82 game season. By that point this season, the Pacers owned the top seed in the east with an 11 game lead over the Heat, but the Pacers have been sputtering as of late. They have lost six of their last ten games.

As this year’s regular season enters its last week of games; the top seed in the east has gone from the Pacers to the Heat and back to the Pacers. After the Heat imposed their will on the Pacers in a 98-86 win last week, they lost focus and dropped a game against the Atlanta Hawks. This puts the Pacers in control of their own destiny to close out the season with the top seed. Despite all the drama near the end, their early-season goal is still within reach as earning the top seed in the east is paramount to Pacer’s success in the post season. Home-court advantage will come in handy in their sure-to-be clash against Heat for the third year in a row.

Disabled Family Sues Disney Parks Over Policies

This week a law suit was released from a Tampa Law firm against The Walt Disney Company. The suit was filed by several families with children suffering from disabilities. According to the suit, the families believe that Disney is picking favorites with the new disability policy that is implemented in the parks.

According to the families, the original pass was much more convenient for the families as it would bring them to the front of each line for a ride without a wait. However the new policy gives the families a return time so they are not able to ride the attraction immediately.

The families that are having trouble are primarily families with autistic children. Some forms of autism affect children and young adults in ways that make the children uncomfortable in crowded areas or places with too much noise. These children can then react to these conditions with screaming or temper tantrums. Many times, these children are just reacting the way their body is telling them too.

The families also believe that through this change in policy Disney is intentionally trying to get rid of families with autistic children in their parks.

As a Orlando resident I do not see the reason for a law suit against Disney. Since they are private property, they are not required by law to have a policy for people with disabilities. However, they offer one, a free and helpful service, that although may not eliminate wait times for guests, will speed up attractions for families with disabilities. Not everyone with disabilities will see my opinion as fair, and I’m okay with that. I believe that families should all be treated equally.

The Joys Of Becoming The Mother of Two Orphan Baby Kittens

As I was about to write my blog earlier today, my friend and I decided to go to the printing center in Knights Circle instead. It was a good thing that we did because on the way to the entrance we saw two tiny, precious baby kittens staring back at us. I instantly, without even thinking about it, walked up to the kittens and picked them up. They fit perfectly in my hand and although I felt bad thinking that their mother was around, I knew that I could care for them more than they would be cared for on the streets at such a young age. The weather has been way to hot for two young kittens their age to be wandering around in.

My friend Tulio and I went to Walmart, bought them the supplies that they need and are currently caring for two perfect little angels. We have named the White and gray one, Elsa and we named the all Black one, Knight. I don’t think their names need much explanation. Until we decide what we are going to do with them, we will be caring for them as if they were our own. Sounds funny, but it’s actually really hard work. I feel like I have become a mother over night. We have a log that states how much they have eaten at what times, when we have to feed them again (which is every 3/4 hours), I have found myself already washing clothes, and even bathing them in Dawn soap to get rid of their fleas.

Now I am writing my blog and after I have other homework that I am going to do. It has been an exhausting day for both Tulio, I and the new babies. It is well worth it though. To know that we saved two kittens off the harsh streets and they now have a warm bed to sleep on and formula to drink every time that they need it, is so rewarding. This also shows me how much I don’t want an actual baby right now and reminds me that school and my youth is everything. Taking things day by day and loving our little babies every step of the way. <3
