Bengt Johansson, Ph.D., is a professor in journalism and mass communication at the Universi-ty of Gothenburg. His research and teaching focus is on crisis communication and political communication, where Johansson has published on various topics such as how people react and communicate during a crisis, political scandals, strategies for news management, political advertising and media election coverage. He is currently working on the large-scale project Crisis Communication and Public Trust in a Multi-Public Society.

Secondary crisis communication – a question of accuracy or credibility?

We communicate when the crisis hits. An important question is therefore why we chose to use social media to communicate in times of crisis. This experiment examines the importance of accuracy and credibility of crisis messages when people share crisis information to understand mechanisms of secondary crisis communication.
