Dr. Soumitro Sen is an assistant professor of public relations at the Department of Journalism and Public Relations at California State University, Long Beach. He is also the faculty adviser of the PRSSA chapter at Long Beach. A former print journalist as well as a public relations practitioner, Dr. Sen’s research interests broadly span the areas of crisis communication, social media’s influence on public relations, and health communication in the context of marginalized communities. Most recently, a book chapter that he co-authored appeared in an anthology titled Culture and Crisis Communication: Transboundary Cases from Nonwestern Perspectives (Wiley, 2017).

Culture centered corporate apologia: A review of strategies across three countries, USA, India and Nigeria

An apology may differ in different cultures. Using Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory, we analyze selected content of corporate apology strategies from three countries with distinct cultures: USA, India and Nigeria. We argue that culture plays a role in how apologia is conceived and manifested in corporate crisis communication responses.
