Crisis Leadership and the Discourse of Renewal: Lessons from Pope’s Messages Following a Sewol Ferry Disaster in South Korea
On August 2014, Pope Francis made his first visit to Korea in 25 years. The papal visit was a nation-wide phenomenon called Pope Syndrome. Using the discourse of renewal theory, the study investigated media coverage on the Pope’s visit following a Sewol ferry disaster. The study analyzed how Pope’s messages had a nation-wide impact on healing public’s grief.
