Barbara S. Gainey (Ph.D., University of South Carolina) is Professor of Communication and Director of the School of Communication & Media at Kennesaw State University in Metro Atlanta, Georgia. As School Director, she oversees a School with 1,700 majors in undergraduate and graduate programs. Dr. Gainey’s research interests include crisis communication/crisis management (particularly in educational settings), public relations, and leadership.

In a time when one black-swan crisis seems to follow another, more focus is needed on building resilience to prepare communities for the next challenge. This presentation proposes concrete strategies for building resilience to strengthen our communities and their crisis response.
