Lauren Cain is a junior Criminology and Criminal Justice major at the University of Maryland with a minor in Global Terrorism Studies. She is a First-Year Innovation and Research Experience (FIRE) program completer and peer mentor for the Risk Communication and Resilience research stream, which has allowed her to participate in grant-funded research and conduct her own individual research since her freshman year. Outside of the research setting, Lauren is a member of the UMD Honors College and marching band, the Mighty Sound of Maryland.

“You are here”: Assessing the inclusion of maps in a campus emergency alert system” seeks to aid practitioners in developing or improving alert systems in a college setting by examining how the inclusion of maps illustrating the recipient’s proximity to a communicated threat influence student response to an emergency alert.
