Danielle Sumy, Ph.D. is a Project Associate in Instrumentation Services and Education and Public Outreach at the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) Consortium. Dr. Sumy started with IRIS in September 2014, and works on the Global Seismographic Network (GSN), the Central and Eastern United States Seismic Network (CEUSN), and the Early Career Investigators (ECI) program, just to name a few. Before joining IRIS, Dr. Sumy conducted research on aftershocks of the 2011 M5.6 Prague, Oklahoma induced earthquake as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Southern California and the United States Geological Survey, respectively. Due to the misconceptions surrounding induced seismicity, her research inspires her to educate and inform the public regarding earthquake risk and hazard, something she continues today. She is also an example of how technical and communications skills can translate between fields. She is a 2011 graduate in marine geology and geophysics at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, and her knowledge of fluids and fluid flow translated well to her work on induced earthquakes.
