30 years laters… Back To The Future the musical coming 2015!

It has been 30 years since the original Back to the Future film debut in 1985 and now fans will be able to experience it all over again but as a live musical! Back to the Future included stars Christopher Lloyd, Crispin Glover and Lea Thompson. The movie was so successful that it led to the creations of sequels, Back to the Future Part 2 in 1989 and Back to the Future Part 3 in 1990.

The original film director, Robert Zemeckis and co-writer Bob Gale have reunited to help develop the musical. Gale said: “The Back to the Future musical is a project that Bob Zemeckis and I have been exploring for almost 10 years.  We’re thrilled to be at last in partnership with a creative and producing team that will create a show that is true to the spirit of the film without being a slavish remake.”

The producers of the “Back to the Future” musical will include Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, Colin Ingram, Universal Stage Productions, Donovan Mannato and CJ E&M. The musical has been set to open in London’s West End in 2015, celebrating the film’s 30th anniversary.

The musical will be under the direction of Jamie Lloyd, who directed The Commitments musical. “Rather than attempt to recreate such an iconic movie on stage, we have assembled a brilliant artistic team to discover a unique theatrical language to take audiences on a journey through time in a vibrant, unexpected way. The production will include illusions, skateboarding and many other surprises that will capture the spirit of the film but freshly interpret it for a new audience,” he said

The show will have a book by Robert Zemeckis, Bob Gale and Lloyd, and will include music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. The musical will consist of the film’s original plot and script, but with  some changes in order to be performed on the live stage. The original music from the film will be included along with some new music.

As of now the production consists of:

Soutra Gilmour – Costume Design, Paul Kieve – Illusions, Jon Clark – lighting design,  Alan Williams – musical superivison, Andrew Willis – skateboard consultant.

Hit: The movie, a huge hit in 1985, starred Michael J Fox as Marty McFly, the California teenager who jeopardizes his parents' high-school relationship after accidentally time-travelling back to 1955
