Cavs’ Irving Takes the MVP as East Defeats West in Highest Scoring All Star Game in History

There is no better way to put the capper on a memorable All-Star weekend than with one of the highest scoring games in NBA all-star history. The Eastern Conference climbed all the way back from an 18 point deficit to defeat the Western Conference 163-155.

 

Numerous record were broken on both sides in an action packed conclusion to All Star 2014. The 163-155 final score set the record for most combined points in an all-star game with 316. The Eastern conference connected on 70 field goals, breaking the previous record of 69 set by the West in 2007. As for the West, they set a new record for most 3-point attempts by one team with 56 and made 16 3-pointers, breaking the previous record of 14 held by the East in 2012 and by the 2013 western conference team last year.

 

As for individual player performances, Clippers All-Star Blake Griffin’s 19 field goals including ten of them in the first half broke Wilt Chamberlin’s previous record of 17 set back in 1962. He and teammate Kevin Durant both finished with a game high 38 points just a few points shy of the all-star scoring record of 42 set by Wilt Chamberlin. Carmelo Anthony made an all-star game record 8 three pointers while Kevin Durant attempted a record 17 three pointers.

 

Despite all the great performance, Cavaliers Guard Kyrie Irving grabbed MVP honors with 31 points and 13 Assist helping propel the west from an 18 point deficit.

 

With another All Star weekend in the books, fans can hardly wait for next year as all-star weekend stops in New York City in 2015
