I am unsure of exactly what to write for my blog on a week of a quiz, but I decided to write about my night of baking. I would have blogged about the quiz if it was posted by now and I had had the opportunity to complete it, but this will be a sufficient topic for me to spew out what’s on my mind.
The title seems to not tie in specifically to the idea of baking, but I will follow up with more details, and it will all make sense. I started out with a craving for something sweet, and recently discovered an amazing sugar cookie recipe on the side of the Publix sugar bag, so I made the decision that I would make the simple cookies. Once I got started, my creative mind started flowing and I thought it would be a great idea to make my cookies orange in the spirit of the upcoming holiday, Halloween. I thought I could make them look like pumpkins, and I didn’t have the ingredients to make frosting to pipe on a jack-o-lantern face, but I had the ingredients to make caramel sauce. I had never made it before, and in my first attempt, I failed because I ended up burning the sugar, and when I went to taste it, I burned my finger too. I completely missed the mark on making the caramel sauce, but then my roommate encouraged me to try again. With her help, I successfully made a second batch of caramel sauce. It wasn’t a good consistency to make a Jack-o-lantern face on my cookies, so I then drizzled the sauce over the cookie. The night started out fun, with creative ideas, and I definitely had a couple of misses throughout the night with the burnt sugar and finger, but then I finally tried the cookie, and realized I hit the mark in terms of creating a delicious cookie, that was orange and covered in caramel.
