It’s Wednesday, October 21st, 2015. The air is filled with flying cars, Jaws 19 has just been released at the Holomax, and at approximately 4:29pm Marty McFly arrives from 1985 in a Delorean. Yes, that’s right, the day has finally come! It’s Back to the Future Day.
For the past few years hoax images of an altered date have circulated the Internet. Seemingly every month or two it prompted fans to prematurely celebrate Marty’s coming. But now we have truly arrived in the future.
Just in case you weren’t alive in the ‘80s let me clear this up for you: We have reached the time period in which Back to the Future Part II purports to take place.
Four years after the first film, Back to the Future Part II hit the big screen in 1989. Picking up immediately where it last left off, Marty (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travel to 2015 in order to save Marty’s future family. Meanwhile, adversary Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson) steals the Delorean and gives a sports almanac to his 1955 self. From there timelines become muddled and the pair of heroes must find a way to put things right again.
Many promotional events are happening on October 21st to celebrate Back to the Future Day. Back to the Future Part II is being shown in select theaters. The trilogy has gotten a special re-release on DVD and Blu-Ray with new features. Pepsi will have a limited run of “Pepsi Perfect,” the same soft drink had by Marty in the ‘80s Café.
So grab your Mattel hoverboard, ride to your local theater, buy a refreshing Pepsi Perfect, and go back to the future. To quote Doc, “Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”
