Zendaya once again makes us feel empowered. The 19-year-old Disney star has spoken out about her cover shoot for Modeliste Magazine’s November’s issue, furious with the fact that they had dramatically photoshopped her cover photo by making her thighs way smaller as well as her hips. The shoot was done at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico this past month but as soon as she got to see what the cover would look like, she took matters into her own hands to make sure they took down the picture and replace with the real one. She got her support from her family and friends and even the help from editor in chief of the magazine.
Here is Zendayas’s statement from today which she published in all her social media accounts:
“Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated. These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self-love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue.”
This is such strong and important message for all her followers and just about anyone in general. This young lady keeps making history with just some classy and powerful words that makes us rethink when we are stereotyping, editing or trying to change something, when in reality we should be embracing our flaws and making them our strongest features that’s differentiates us from everyone else.
The editor in chief of the magazine made a statement after the whole incident by saying the following:
“Upon review of the final edited images which had been submitted to us by an independent editing company, together, as a collaboration between myself, Zendaya and her parents, we concluded that the images had been retouched to an extent that was not acceptable and not true to the values and ideals we represent and promote in our publication”
Which me us realize that it wasn’t even the magazine’s idea to retouch the picture, the way they did, they actually sent to a editing company and got it back like that. But if they are specifically hiring someone to edit a photo, of course you have to expect to get what you ask for. The editor did a very good of taking a bad situation and turning it into a learning experience not just for them but also, for the audience to that even celebrities who look already amazing, get this feeling of not being good enough just by being photoshopped.
