Biography

Yue ‘Gurt’ Ge (Ph.D., 2013, Texas A&M University) is Assistant Professor of Emergency Management and Urban and Regional Planning in the School of Public Administration and  Faculty Co-lead of the Urban Resilience Initiative at the University of Central Florida.

Gurt studies community resilience through public-private partnerships from an interdisciplinary and community-engaged perspective. He has been involved as a PI or Co-PI on over $4 Million in sponsored research. Recent projects include risk communication enhanced by advanced IT and AI and community partnerships (NSF Smart & Connected Communities), uncertainty in hurricane evacuation decision making (NSF Hazards SEES), socioeconomic impacts of satellite-enhanced flooding forecasts (NASA Water Resources Applied Sciences), and data syntheses for public health crises (NSF-funded SSEER and CONVERGE, Natural Hazards Center at CU Boulder). He received an early career award from the Early Career Faculty Innovators Program at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), a major facility sponsored by NSF.

Gurt’s method expertise covers interdisciplinary survey and experiment design, quantitative analysis, and spatial analysis (GIS). His research has been published in Risk Analysis, Environment and Planning B, Transportation Research Part D, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, Natural Hazards, Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, Journal of Risk Research, International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters, International Journal of Disaster Risk Science, among other journals.
