On September 26, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will be hosting an exciting 5k at Fun Spot Orlando. The goal of the run is to raise $130,000 for the hospital which costs nearly $2 Million a day to run.
Founded in 1962, St. Jude has been working tirelessly to achieve their mission – to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. With 75% of its funding covered by public contributions, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has been able to raise its cancer survival rate up to 80%, 60% more than when the hospital opened over 50 years ago.
Of course, the race isn’t taking place only in Orlando. Supporters of St. Jude can be found racing at over 50 cities nationwide next month including Chicago, Illinois; Miami, Florida; and the hospital’s home city, Memphis, Tennessee.
Participation in the 5k is stretching into the University of Central Florida as well. Many members of UCF’s Delta Delta Delta and Tau Kappa Epsilon will be at the upcoming event in hopes to raise both money and awareness for their national philanthropy. In addition, several Orlando businesses will be participating in the race including Chili’s Bar & Grill, Brooks Brothers International, and Fossil.
The race will take place Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Fun Spot Orlando. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the race will begin at 8:00 a.m. After the race, runners will be able to enjoy the rest of their day at Fun Spot at a discounted price. Those interested can find more information here.
