There are no Such Things as Secrets, Only Temporary Moments of Silence

Benjamin Franklin once said “three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead.” While this rings true, secrets can be kept if they are of the garden variety. The typical secrets that best friends share or something you hide from your parents… but global catastrophes? Who are they trying to fool? I couldn’t even begin to wrap my mind around the fact that the Soviet Union actually thought they would be able to hide the nuclear reactor explosion in Chernobyl. Granted they were a pretty isolated country, something of this magnitude would surely get out. If there are people out there that truly think secrets of these magnitudes could be kept, I only begin to think that they must have had the most loyal and trustworthy friends ever during their childhood. In today’s society everyone is looking for that group or circle of friends that they can spend time with and truly be themselves around. Even once you have found this group, not everyone can be trusted. While their intentions may be good, everybody talks. It’s only human nature. No one can resist telling a secret. Now there are those instances with your best friend, who you can trust your life with, but if that person isn’t your most trusted friend in life don’t count on them keeping your secret. I feel that you have to approach everyone with the same guardedness until they give you a reason to trust them. Also if your secret is something you wouldn’t want to get out, it’s probably best that you not tell it at all. Friends come and go and your secrets go with them, so be prepared.
