On Monday, August 19, 2013 Adam West came to The UCF Venue as a spokesperson for Neebo, the textbook company that powers bookstores around the country, including our CB&S Bookstore. This event was free to attend and open to the public, with textbook giveaways for attendees. I had the opportunity to sit down with Adam for a talk show style interview as the moderator of Behind the Scenes with Adam West hosted by Knightcast. As a journalist and as the Director of Knightcast, UCF’s Student-Run Internet Radio and Live Event DJ agency, I have had the chance to work with stars from Big Bang Theory and Harry Potter. Still, this was one of the most exciting experiences of my life, because this interview was more personal and in-depth.
Most recently, Adam West is one of the most sought-after voices in animation for movies and TV. Adam hit meteoric pop culture fame over 45 years ago as television’s classic Batman, which ran for 3 seasons between 1966 and 1968. We know him today as “Mayor West” on Family Guy, but he has been the voice of many shows in our young adult lives, from Johnny Bravo to Fairly Odd Parents.
Starting with Batman, Adam explained how he developed the character as a superhero for families and children to appreciate. We covered his voice-over career, his fearlessness while playing himself, and his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. From “sexting” to growing up as a farm boy, we discussed it all. Adam even complimented my work, since he researched me too. His love for Theatre of the Absurd and his comedic honesty are captured in his one-liners and dedication to growth as an artist. His role as Batman will live on forever in my heart and the lives of millions.
