As some of us are making plans for life after college, I have decided that I want to pursue a career as a flight attendant. Throughout my childhood, my father had taken my family on many road trips out of town. When I became an adult with my own means to get around, I began traveling on my own and with friends. After college, I would like to have a career that would allow me the luxury of being able to travel, which is how I had come to the conclusion that becoming a flight attendant would be the best job for me.
Recently, I had begun making announcements to my friends that I was looking for a job with an airline as a flight attendant. As a result, I had gotten a swarm of responses (all positive). Some of my friends, who are flight attendants, began giving me advice.
Apparently, this job is quite popular because, they said that sometimes it takes multiple attempts at applying in order to get the job. I guess this is true because, I had already applied to one airline and, within a few days, they had turned me down! I had one friend tell me that it took him as many as seven times applying before he finally got a job at a particular airline! There is a ratio of 10:1 for people applying for the same flight attendant job. This means that, for example, for every 1,000 jobs there are 100,000 people applying for them!
Despite this difficulty, everyone who has been a flight attendant that I know has encouraged me to keep trying. “I loved it!” “I’ve been doing this for over 20 years!” “It’s worth fighting for!” In my opinion, traveling around the world for free is definitely worth fighting for!
