The goal of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is to grant a wish to children with a life threatening medical condition. This foundation focuses on helping children fight their illness by fulfilling their dreams. The wishes vary from child to child, ranging from having a playhouse built for them in their backyard, to meeting their favorite sports idol. Every wish granted, no matter the magnitude, has a positive effect. This organization helps a countless number of children by making their wish come true and giving them hope for the future.
Lately, there have been specials on ESPN that show individual stories of children in the Make-A-Wish program getting to meet their sports idol. These short television specials are inspiring, showing that star athletes will take time out of their day to make child’s wish come true. Star’s such as Robert Griffin III, Roger Federer, and Lebron James all participate in these kind acts to help the children push through their illnesses. One of the specials features a 6 year old child with spinal muscular atrophy. His name is Kyle and he got to meet the entire Arizona Diamondbacks team, as well as throw out the first pitch of the game. In all of the Make-A-Wish specials I’ve seen, the children’s faces always light up when they meet their favorite athlete. That hope and happiness being brought into that child’s life is inspiring and can be life changing for them. Organizations like Make-A-Wish have a mission to make this world a better place and help people in need.
