Check out UCF’s Newest Hot Spot on campus that sells Popsicles, Coffee, and Tea!

That’s right, you read that correctly… Popsicles, Coffee, and Tea. Strange? But I bet you want to check it out… because of course why wouldn’t you?!

It’s called Pop Parlour and it’s located at Knights Plaza (by the CFE arena & next to Jimmy John’s) They actually have 3 locations: Winter Park, Downtown, and their newest location- UCF. They’ve been open for about a month and I just went yesterday with the boyfriend and WE LOVED IT!!!

All their Popsicle’s taste exactly what they’re called and are all made fresh! They have 3 different types of pops and they range from fruity, ice cream, even what they call “Boozie Pops” that are made with liquor. Examples of some of their fruity pops: Pineapple Mango (my fave), Cucumber Lime, Honey Pear, Lemonade, Watermelon, Raspberry, Pineapple, Coconut, and Plum. Examples of their creamy pops: Pumpkin Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Pie, Cookie Batter, Pumpkin Pie, Orange Cream and Vanilla Banana. Lastly, some of their “Boozie Pops”: The Elvis, Pina Colada, Cucumber Gin, Nutella Maduro, and the Elderly Pear (my boyf had this one, it’s Rum & Pear)— Pineapple Mango still better (:

All of their pops are $3.50 and are SUPER yummy, I was actually surprised! The next bit of info is pretty unique… The UCF location is the only one that serves coffee and is the only true on campus espresso bar! Every drink is hand made by their baristas and they even make the pretty designs on your coffee if you wanted to just stay in and relax. If not, you can do it To-Go. To make things even cooler, they even have a “To- Go” Window outside so it’s like a walk up drive thru lol.

Now, we only had coffee and our pops (awesome combo right? haha) but they also serve tea as well! Even though I didn’t taste the tea, I’m sure it’ll be crazy good just like their unique pops and hand crafted sweet coffees! Just gives me an excuse to go their again to try it! Last but not least, this place is so large you can even get some homework done and study with a nice cup of coffee! The atmosphere is very relaxed and inviting.. found my new study chill spot (YAY!)

This place definitely has it all, so don’t miss out on this unique UCF Hot Spot! See you there (:

***Remember Pineapple Mango is the best choice***

U.S. and European Officials Becoming More Confident A Bomb Took Down Flight 9268

U.S. officials are becoming increasingly more confident that a bomb was used to cause the explosion that brought down Metrojet Flight 9268.  Intelligence experts are specifically interested in some private messages between ISIS affiliates that were intercepted and analyzed.  The exact contents of these messages have not been made public but officials believe there is valuable information there that could give clues about the origins of the attack.

More evidence of an explosion is found on the audio recordings from the flight data recorder that was recovered from the crash.  European officials that have examined the recording say that a sound can be heard right before the recording cuts off.  The sound is possibly that of the initial bomb explosion.  There were also no sounds of distress recorded before the explosion meaning that it was a complete surprise to everyone on board the plane.  These officials feel strongly that this information indicates that there were no equipment malfunctions and there was most likely a bomb.

In response, Russia and Britain have suspended all flights to and from Sharm el-Sheikh.  Many other countries are following suit and warnings have been issued about the belief of the attack.  Thousands of stranded British and Russian travelers remain in the region and national officials are working to bring them home as quickly as possible.  One issue travelers are dealing with is the inability to bring any luggage on the plane.  All luggage is being flown separately on cargo planes because of the belief that a bomb was most likely planted in the luggage compartment of flight9268.

Missouri grad student goes on hunger strike until the schools president resigns

Jonathan L Butler, a graduate student at the University of Missouri has gained nationwide attention after starting a one-man hunger strike against his schools president, Tim Wolfe. Racial tension has been going on at the University for months now and students say the president hasn’t taken any significant charge, so until he steps down, Butler who started the strike on Monday,  Nov. 2 , will continue his strike even if it means losing his life.

The racial tension , Bulter noted, really began when teenager, Micheal Brown was killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, MO and the University of Missouri, being only two hours away, did nothing to address it , “I think [it] was a huge mistake on their part and contributed to the current cultural environment that we have.”

The University of Missouri, also known as Mizzou , has a history of rasicm. When the university was first founded in 1839, the state was a slave state and the university  participated in slave labor.

Today many years later, although no longer a slave state , black Missourians still experience racism.

In one such case,  a young man named, Payton Head, the Missouri Students Association president was continuously  called the n word as he walked home.

In another incident, students a part of the Legion of Black Collegians  at Mizzou, were rehearsing for a play when one white male called them all the n word.

According to the university the student was found and removed from the school, however this did not make students feel any safer.

Then two weeks after the schools homecoming, where black student protesters were also present, someone used  their own feces to draw a swastika in a brand new residence hall. The schools response for such a disgusting act saying  “It was some vandalism that was discovered several days ago in a residence hall in a restroom,” was the last straw for Butler, and when he formally began his hunger strike.

Butler is not alone in this fight however . Along with student protesters camping out in the heart of the university, players of the schools football team have joined the protest by  boycotting all football related activities until the schools president steps down.

Missing boy found 13 years after taken

A missing boy from Alabama was found earlier this week, 13 years after he went missing. Julian Hernandez, a now 18 year old boy living in Ohio, was applying to colleges like any other normal high school senior, but what he learned changed his life forever and made the life he was living a lie.

Like any college application Julian put his social security number into the form, but unlike anybody else, the number his father gave him could not be verified, so he took his problem to the school counselor.  With some digging, both the counselor and Julian found a little boy matching his description on The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Database. With this information and with what came next, changed his life.

In August of 2002, Julian’s mother told the police that her 5 year old’s father had taken the child to preschool, but the pair never returned back at the house. The police department had determined the boys father had withdrawn cash from his bank accounts, and fled with Julian and some of Julian’s possessions.

Julian’s mother and father were not married and the crime was classified as a non-custodial abduction. Over the past 13 years, there have been leads all over the United States and Canada, but they all have lead to dead ends. When Julian’s mother received the news earlier this week about her son being found, she was thrilled but apprehensive because of all of the false alarms.

Julian was living with his father Bobby Hernandez, 53, in Ohio where he provided false information about him and his son. He was using the alias Jonathan Mangina and had Julian using the alias Jay Mangina unknowingly. A neighbor said that they had only been living in Cleveland for the last 3-5 years and police are trying to find out where they were before that.

Venomous cobra caught after 24 hours on the lam in Florida

Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials spent hours scouring through brush in Buckingham, Florida, after a driver found the 5-foot long creature slithering along a main road.

If you’re familiar with the area, the man spotted the snake on Stratton road Friday afternoon. The News-Press reports he alerted authorities, causing FWC and some volunteers to spend the next day tracking it down.

The Asian monocled cobra was finally apprehended around 4 p.m. on Saturday, about 200 yards west of the initial sighting.

FWC searched high and low, checking under a boat and inside a shed, along with some potential hiding spots on the road.

The snake reportedly belongs to Lewis Mark Pellicer, who is a Venomous Reptile Permit holder; Pellicer is actually the closet permit holder living near the capture location.

Charges are pending against the owner because FWC claims he failed to report the snake missing, instead waiting for officials to reach out and speak with him.

How many animals Pellicer owns is unclear, but a recent photo shows at least five reptiles at his residence.

Previously, FWC officials had gone door to door alerting residents and advising them not to approach or try to capture the cobra if they spotted it.

Pellicer will not be getting his cobra back right away; it will remain at a licensed facility until an FWC investigation is completed.

A king cobra went missing in Orlando back in September, but it took a month to track it down. The 8-foot long beast was eventually found in a woman’s garage.

4k TV’s – Is it time to upgrade?

The new hype right now and for the last year have been 4k resolution tv sets. It seems that just about every manufacture from LG, to Sony, to Samsung, to even Vizio have them. But why? Is the bump in resolution really worth the bump in price. Granted, 4k tv prices have been dropping considerably in the last year, so the financial cost isn’t quite as bad any more, but that still leaves you with the biggest problem of all, content.

Big box stores like Best Buy advertise 4k tv’s during sports games, claiming you can see so much better with the higher resolution panel. And that would be true, if your content was in 4k. But it’s not, its the same 1080 content that you were getting before, only this time your tv has to stretch it to fit the 4k screen size. And if you have ever taken a small image and blown it up bigger, it always looks worse. Same principle with feeding a 4k tv with 1080 content, in most cases its going to look worse then if you were to play that same 1080 content on a 1080 TV.

So the next thing you could ask is, when are we going to get 4k content. Unfortunately, its not a simple answer, There is some 4k content out there right now. Sony has a 4k box that has some 4k movies that you can download, and YouTube allows its users to upload and view in 4k and BluRay is claiming that we will have 4k BluRay disks very soon, but as far as broadcast 4k content like sports, it doesn’t look like we will be getting that anytime soon. There are still too many issues like bandwidth, compression, and formatting that need to be solved before that will happen. Also more or less the entire broadcast infrastructure will need to be revamped which for the United States is no easy task. But there is a little hope, DirectTV is says they are working on a 4k box that will allow them to “broadcast” 4k content, but then you run into the issue of producers in the TV industry upgrading all their cameras to 4k, and that won’t be easy.

How to: Make Stuffing and Turkey in the Crockpot this Thanksgiving

Greetings, cooks! It’s officially November, and that means we are all preparing to cook our Thanksgiving feasts at the end of the month. As exciting as it may be, it’s terrifying as a first time cook. So, I decided for this week’s blog I would give you one of my favorite Thanksgiving hacks: Stuffing in the crockpot!

Ingredients:

  1. 1 10.5 ounce can of cream of chicken soup (or use cream of mushroom soup, it’s less salty)
  2. 8 oz. sour cream
  3. 6 oz box of boxed stuffing mix
  4. ¾ cup water1
  5. 16 oz. bag frozen green beans
  6. 3-4 large turkey breasts, salted and peppered

Instructions:

  1. Place the chicken on the bottom of the crock pot.
  2. Mix together the soup, sour cream, stuffing, half of the water, and place on top of the chicken.
  3. Place the string beans either on one side of the crock pot or over the stuffing. You’ll want to mix the stuffing every so often if possible. I don’t mind mixing the string beans in with the stuffing but if you’d prefer that they remain separate, place the string beans more to the side.
  4. Add the remaining water during the cooking process as needed. I always use all of the water but crock pots cook slightly differently, so adding as needed is safer. If you’re leaving for the day, add the remaining water when you return if you feel you need it.
  5. Cook on high for 4 hours, or on low for 6-7.

Side note: The stuffing doesn’t need to be recooked before served. Happy Thanksgiving, Cooks!

How to: Make Healthy Chicken Fajitas in the Oven

Cooks, we have mastered so many crowd pleasing meals with minimal effort. Today, we will learn to make one of my favorite dishes of all time: Chicken Fajitas. My mom used to make me fajitas when I had a bad day at school, or whenever we craved Mexican food. The best part of it all is that out of all the dishes we’ve conquered so far, this has to be easiest!

Ingredients:

  1. 3 skinless boneless chicken breasts, cut into strips
  2. 1 small onion, cut into strips
  3. 1 green bell pepper, cut into strips
  4. 1/2 cup of salsa
  5. 1 cup chicken broth
  6. 1 tablespoon cumin
  7. 1 package fajita seasoning
  8. salt and pepper to taste
  9. 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions:

1. In a bowl, combine chicken, seasoning, cumin, and salt and pepper. Allow chicken to sit in seasoning for about 15 minutes.

2. Heat up olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

3. Saute onions and peppers for three minutes, for smokey flavor.

4. In a glass pan, combine all ingredients.

5. Stick it in the over for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

That’s it! Heat up some tortillas and top with whatever toppings you have in the house! I like to garnish them with some cilantro, sour cream, salsa, and cheese.

Enjoy your dinner, cooks!

Guillermo del Toro’s Ghostly Gothic ‘Crimson Peak’

At the turn of the 20th century, a young woman marries a near stranger and is whisked away to his secluded home in England. The couple and his sister occupy the dilapidated manor that is slowly sinking into the ground. Only they are not alone, something sinister is there with them. This is director Guillermo del Toro’s gothic vision Crimson Peak.

While Crimson Peak is advertised as a ghost story, it really is more of a gothic love tale with horror elements. The ghosts serve to drive the plot forward rather than to be the center of the story. The film is low on jump scares but high on atmospheric fright. The designs of the spooky spirits are completely ghastly. Doug Jones, well known for his creature work in Pan’s Labyrinth, provides their unnerving and otherworldly movements.

The plot is fairly predictable. It’s telegraphed every step of the way, like in the novel written by Edith or an antidote told by Lucille. Although the cast does deliver good performances largely the characters aren’t terribly interesting. The camera work and sound design are both wonderful, which is typical for Del Toro.

However, the real star of the film is the lavish sets. The production design paints a delightfully eerie portrait that encapsulates the essence of Old Hollywood haunted house films. Del Toro is well known for his meticulously stylish sets, which he plans down to the last detail. The Crimson Peak manor is truly a character in and of itself. It’s hard to shake the image of the house standing atop of its snowy hill, red clay seeping from below like a hemorrhaging wound.

All and all, Crimson Peak has a standard story with extraordinary visuals. Even though Halloween has passed, if you’re still in the mood for something spooky, you ought to give this film a try.

Stephen Curry And The Warriors Looking Again Like Champions

Stephen Curry is picking up right where he left off. Forty points in a game? Check. Astronomical shooting average? Check. Undefeated? Check. Outscoring Micheal Jordan? Almost. In the opening five games of the season Stephen Curry has rivaled Michael Jordan’s scoring record, but there’s no need to draw Michael Jordan comparisons to know how great Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have become. Five games into the NBA season Stephen Curry is making a statement for another MVP award and the Golden State Warriors are looking as good as ever.

For the first time this season Golden State found themselves in a duel. The Los Angeles Clippers battled back from a seventeen point deficit to take a ten point lead. Stephen Curry sat out for a majority of the first half due to foul trouble.  Clipper’s superstars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin were having phenomenal games. All of that was erased in a few short minutes. As the clock began to dwindle in the fourth quarter a switch went off at Oracle Arena in Oakland. A switch that sent Stephen Curry and the rest of the Warriors to another level. A few three-pointers and some major fast break points in the Warriors were back on top. A ten point deficit erased in the blink of an eye and Stephen Curry was looking at another 30+ point game. Needless to say, the Warriors went on to win.

Stephen Curry looks like an MVP again. The Golden State Warriors look like world champions again. While the season is still young, do not be surprised to see Golden State playing late in the playoffs…perhaps even in the championship and certainly do not be surprised to see Stephen Curry making another MVP speech late next season.
