Relationships: Virtual Life vs. Real Life

Today’s society relies on the internet to do more tasks than one would expect. This can include anything from navigation from one place to another, finding recipes for dinner, or even chatting with a stranger on a dating site. It may seem odd, but these online, social networking dating website are more popular now than ever. Surprisingly, this is a billion dollar industry in the United States. This industry is growing more and more popular in other nations such as Singapore, China, and even India, where arranged marriages are extremely common. It seems as though this would be a culture shock to some of the nations, but it quite common. As these online dating sites grow across seas, the cultures and traditions of these countries are growing and changing as well.

It seems scary to meet someone on the internet, and pursue the relationship in a more romantic way, but it is more common than you may think. I am not quite sure if this is the route I would like to go, but it definitely does not limit your  horizon of choices to one location. Other sites such as Skype and Oovoo make it possible for others to have face to face contact without physically being face-to-face. Technology continues to grow as do these social/virtual worlds that some become engulfed in. When it comes time for our children’s children to get married, who knows how advanced these online dating sites will be. It may even be possible for couples to go on complete dates without leaving the comfort of their own home. Social networks are definitely going to continue to be a growing industry for the future.
