Everyone loves the holiday season. Who couldn’t love the twinkling lights, the festive colors, all the holiday cheer and spirit? What more magical way to celebrate the holiday season then to celebrate it at Disney World. The Osborne Lights have been holidays hit for the last 2 decades at Hollywood studios. This year they’re celebrating 20 years of illumination, but also making it it’s final display.
This stunning spectacle started modestly in Little Rock, Arkansas, as a single home’s annual display. Every year, Jennings Osborne and his family set up an elaborate collection of holiday lights. Over time, the collection of lights grew and grew… and GREW! The display eventually grew to include over 3 million lights in 1993, and Osborne had to buy two properties adjacent to his home to expand his light show. Disney acquired the rights to host the display in 1995 after neighbors sued Osborne, complaining of traffic congestion created by visitors driving to see the lights. The Osborne family accepted the offer and decided to share their magic with the world. Walt Disney World Resort happily offered to become the new home for this exceptional exhibition of holiday cheer.
It’s so sad to hear that the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be switched off for the last time. I suggest you go and see it this year before its gone forever. The lights’ final run at Disney will be on display from Nov. 6, 2015 through Jan. 3, 2016.
Osborne Lights, you will be missed!
