We Can Move on From This…

It’s probably been said a lot recently, but with the recent developments of Hurricane Sandy, it is important for me to mention the resiliency of the American people and the amount past t of courage it takes to be able to face such tragedy.  Watching the news and looking at the devastation, it is impossible not to feel for the people in the northeast, as their lives have been totally changed forever.  It is times like these that I feel lucky to be alive.

I have no doubt in my mind that my fellow citizens will return stronger from this and their sense of community and unity will be strengthened.  Just as we have done with such events as Hurricane Katrina and 9/11 in recent years, our spirit will prevail and we can put this behind us.  It sounds cliche, but the only way to recover from something like this is to have that strong spirit.  Though the damage may seem too much to handle at this point, by having the American people work hand and hand, day after day, eventually we will rise and be a better nation because of it.

What I wish would come from all of this is the mentality that we can all work together for the greater good of the country.  With all of the partisan political divide happening these days, it is important to remember how strong we can be as a nation, and what good can come from every acting altruistically for the greater good of something more than its parts.  This devastating storm has hit just before a very important election.  I hope that the feeling extend beyond the voter booth and no matter what candidate is elected the right thing to do for the country and the impenetrable American spirit are what continue on.
