5 fabulous nail polish colors for Fall!

1. Plum:

You can’t go wrong with “Anti-bleak” from the Mariah Carey collection by Opi. This beautiful medium toned purple is the perfect representation of Fall! This gorgeous hue can be found at ULTA for $9.00. With a $3.50 off coupon found on ULTA.com, the color can be yours for $6.00.

2. Red:

Dark red and light red never go out of style. The color can be worn any time of the year and this Fall is no exception. “Fishnet stockings” by Essie is the perfect dark red color. A couple of coats exposes a gorgeous, rich, dark cherry color. This red screams Fall!

3. Blue:

I’ve seen a lot of blue this season. Sparkly blue, dark blue, and every blue in between.  Borrowed and blue is a light, sky blue color. On the other hand, Aruba blue is a rich, and dark metallic blue. The color resembles a sparkly sapphire.

4. Brown:

Wicked is one of my very favorite colors by Essie. Wicked is a dark brown color with a hint of dark red. Wicked isn’t just the perfect color to get together with friends and watch a Trueblood episode. Wicked is the perfect hue if you are wearing a lighter colored outfit. Unlike Wicked, Hot Coco is simply a lighter brown.  When your Fall outfit has darker colors, I would use Hot Coco to offset the dark.

5. White:

White is another one of those colors that never goes out of style. Marshmallow is more of an off white vs. a color like Blanc that is purely white. Both are Essie and both make hands look clean and polished. In addition to being a great Fall accessory, Blanc and Marshmallow and great colors to wear to a job fair or interview.

Every color on my list can be found at ulta.com. A $3.50 coupon can also be found on ulta.com which will reduce the price of each nail polish from $8.00 to $5.00.

Car chase on Capitol Hill leads to fatal result

Just days following the government shutdown, a woman and her child were driving just outside the White House on Capitol Hill when the woman suddenly decided to ram her way through a White House checkpoint. One officer tried to stop her by holding a little metal barricade as she was speeding through the area. However, the woman wouldn’t yield to the barricade and the officer flipped on top of the hood of the car before rolling off onto the pavement. The woman, later identified as Miriam Carey, continued speeding on Pennsylvania Avenue, reaching speeds up to 80 miles per hour and driving through red lights along the way. Soon after, Ms. Carey was finally cornered, but as the surrounding officers drew their weapons, Ms. Carey hit the gas in reverse and struck a police car before racing up Constitution Avenue. She eventually crashed into a barrier on a corner. Ms. Carey struggled to get out of her car, but as soon as she exited the vehicle, law enforcement officers started firing their weapons. It turns out that the woman was not armed herself and aside from using her vehicle as a weapon, which has now been all but totaled, she did not appear to present an immediate danger. She was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The strange event follows Ms. Carey’s relatively normal and non-violent past. Ms. Carey was a dental hygienist from Stamford, Connecticut. Her friends and family who all recently spoke to her reported to officials that she seemed fine to them at the time. A former boss of hers confirmed that she had a temper when she was confronted about certain situations. Still, the whole event will be remembered as an anomaly as the rest of Capitol Hill looks to forget about the bizarre situation and focus on more pressing matters going forward.

Sinead O’Connor Tries To Warn Miley Cyrus

In response to Miley Cyrus’ recent interview with Rolling Stone, Irish singer Sinead O’Connor wrote an open letter. Cyrus cited O’Connor and her 1990 hit “Nothing Compares 2 U” as inspiration for her “Wrecking Ball” video. O’Connor has been through this before. Writing out of “motherliness and love”, she warns the young star that the music business does not care about her or anyone else.

In the letter, O’Connor stated, “they will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think it’s what you wanted.. and when you end up in rehab as a result of being prostituted, they will be sunning themselves on their yachts in Antigua.” O’Connor parallels what we have been seeing on television as Miley’s prostitution, while the music industry “sells” her body. She warns Cyrus that her talent is obscured by allowing herself to be pimped, by the music business and herself.

While the letter was taken down from O’Connor’s site, a “feud” already erupted on the internet. However, Cyrus and O’Connor now say it’s over. Today, October 7th, one day before she officially drops her new album, Bangerz, Miley went on The Today Show to “clear the air.” Miley says she is a fan of O’Connor and respects her work. Clearly still bothered by the reaction of her elder, she compared the open letters to the countless meaningless blog posts she receives daily.

Regardless, I am glad someone reached out to Miley. As a fan since I was a child, I cannot watch her videos or listen to her songs anymore without disgust and sadness. Let’s try to fight global human trafficking, while a young American “artist” strips down and licks sledgehammers. A talented girl is doing anything for attention, with no care for morality of the public or even her own worth.

Tampa Bay Rays Fight Off The Boston Red Sox

The Major league Baseball playoffs started last week with the wild card games to play the 5 game division series. Tampa Bay was a wild card team this year and won in the 1 game playoff to get to this series against the top ranked Red Sox. The Red Sox have dominated the first two games of the series with 12-2 and a 7-4 wins. The game tonight, October 7, was a much more competitive game. This game was played in Tampa Bay unlike the other two before it. The Boston Red Sox are the higher seeded team so they get home field advantage first.

Tonights game in Tampa Bay went down to the wire and ended up in a 5-4 Tampa Bay win. The two teams were tied 3-3 late into the game until the Rays took a one run lead in the 8th inning. Boston quickly responded by tying the game up in the 9th inning. Going into the bottom of the 9th inning the game was 4-4 with the Rays playoff hopes on the line. The back up catcher, Jose Lobaton came up to bat and hit a walk off home run to win the game. This win for the Tampa Bay Rays was necessary to stay in the playoffs. They are down to the Red Sox in the American League Division Series 2-1 now. This is a best of 5 series so the first to win three games will move on to the American League Championship Series. Both teams have a lot on the line and want to move on to the next round in the playoffs.

Sibling NFL Quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning Start Season With Opposite Records

NFL Quarterbacks Peyton Manning (DEN) and Eli Manning (NYG) are brothers who are usually known for each performing at elite levels to lead their teams to the playoffs perennially. However, this season the brothers have had the most contrasting records after the first five games that they have ever had while they were both starting Quarterbacks in the NFL.

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos have gotten off to a perfect start this season, still undefeated with a 5-0 record. Manning has thrown for 1,884 yards, 20 touchdown passes and only one interception this year, giving him a QB Rating of 136.4 over the first five games. On the other hand, Eli Manning and the New York Giants have struggled tremendously this season. After five dreadful performances, the Giants have still yet to win a game and have started the season with a painful 0-5 record. Eli Manning has thrown for 1,482 yards, eight touchdown passes and twelve interceptions this season, giving him a QB Rating of 65.8 over the first five games.

While the Quarterbacks are large factors in each team’s record, there are other factors that have contributed to each team’s current success or failure. The Broncos’ defense has been great as usual this year. When you pair a great defense with a great Quarterback and offense, it is going to be very difficult to beat that team any given Sunday. The Giants’ defense has been alright, but has given up some big plays over the season that have ultimately lost games for the team. The offense has been awful this year in every aspect compared to what fans are used to seeing from their Super Bowl Champion New York Giants. Both teams should realize that the season is still young, and each of their records could make a turn for the better or worse over the remaining eleven games on the schedule.

61-year-old Surburban Grandmother Murders Her Infant Granddaughter With A Carving Knife

As of today, it was reported that the grandmother of a six-month old baby was the cause of death for her own grandchild. Left alone for just a brief moment, the grandmother, Alfreda Giedrojc was asked by the infant’s father to babysit while he and the grandfather went out to work. While the two gentlemen were out working on home repairs right up the road, Alfreda then decided to go along with her horrific plan of ending the infant’s life. She first began by laying the child on the floor while then proceeding to get a sledgehammer out of her closet. From then on, she began to swing the sledgehammer on the baby’s head and body several times. Despite numerous blows to the body, the baby was still alive, but not for long because Alfreda then took her plan to another level by going and getting a carving knife. With the carving knife in hand, the grandmother picks the infant up and slices her throat which kills the baby instantly. Authorities say Alfreda is being detained without bail, and has been charged with first degree murder in the death of her granddaughter. As horrific as this event is, it has been reported that this is indeed the first time the grandmother has ever done anything like this in her entire life. Reporters are also saying that when questioned about the situation, Alfreda expressed great shame and remorse for her terrible actions.

Killing anyone of any age is always wrong, but I cannot fathom one having the audacity to kill an innocent infant who was just brought into this world. What could have prompted such an act as this? Although no explanation would suffice, I still question the grandmother’s thought process as well as her well-being. I believe she should be thoroughly investigated as well counseled to see what exactly could have brought on an action such as this. I believe everyone deserves a chance to live their life to the fullest, and it saddens me that the infant whose life was taken away so soon will never get to experience that or find out all that they were meant to be.

Researchers Found Out What Chicken Nuggets Are Made Of

Mississippi researchers have conducted tests and found out that less than half of what makes up a chicken nugget is actually the meat of a chicken. The researchers examined two types of chicken nuggets and they contain fifty percent or less chicken muscle tissue.

Researchers conducted their study using nuggets that came from two fast food chains in Jackson, Mississippi. They kept the names of the restaurants anonymous. To conduct the study, a nugget was taken from each box and preserved. The preserved nuggets were then dissected and stained and placed under a microscope for close observation.

After observing the two samples carefully, researchers recorded the findings in the American Journal of Medicine. According to the journal, the first nugget was approximately half chicken muscle (includes chicken breasts and thighs), while the rest is a mix of fat, blood vessels, and nerves. The cells that line the skin and internal organs of the chicken were present in the sample as well.

The second chicken nugget was only forty percent chicken muscle. The rest of it was comprised of fat, cartilage, and pieces of bone.

Dr. Richard D. deShazo, lead author of the American Journal of Medicine of the University of Medicine in Jackson, said the nuggets he examined would be okay to eat occasionally, but not too often.

“What has happened is that some companies have chosen to use an artificial mixture of chicken parts rather than low-fat chicken white meat, batter it up and fry it and still call it chicken; it is really a chicken by-product high in calories, salt, sugar, and fat that is a very unhealthy choice. Even worse, it tastes great and kids love it and it is marketed to them,” deShazo said.

deShazo added that this experiment wasn’t done to expose fast food restaurants, but instead remind consumers that not everything that tastes good is good for you.

I’ve always thought it was obvious that chicken nuggets from various fast food chains are not all natural chicken meat. There are also fast food chains that make chicken nuggets using all white meat chicken such as Chick-fil-A. Their chicken nuggets taste much different than those from Burger King and McDonald’s.

Saying Goodbye to Corey Monteith: A Controversial Tribute for A Deceased Glee Star

Corey Monteith, star of the hit Fox show Glee, passed away earlier this year from a drug overdose. His starring role on the show was left empty and unresolved. Monteith played the role of Finn Hudson, a high school football player turned glee club enthusiast who was last seen on a journey to find his proper path in life. He was fighting for success and love much like Monteith was in real life. His journey on Glee was far from over and the fictional position he left off in was critical to the show’s unraveling. Glee’s writers have devoted an episode in memory of not only Corey Monteith, but his fictional role as well. Although Monteith’s drug overdosed caused his actual passing, it was recently decided upon that his character will not follow in his footsteps. In this case, will avoidance of controversial material prove successful or is bringing fact into fiction considered disrespectful?

Glee’s writers considered all possible causes of fictional death before digging into the tribute episode. Taking time to sort things through, the team shot two standard episodes before creating the tribute as a third. Writing out Monteith’s character had the ability to flow in a variety of ways. After careful consideration in the best interest Monteith’s memory, his character Finn will not pass from similar causes in the future episode. Although Monteith could easily relate to his character on multiple levels, at the end of the day a character is just fiction. A solid distinction between the actor and his role are formed when their death not a carbon copy.

Despite the glorious opportunity to raise the awareness of drug abuse and potentially draw in a larger audience, the show’s creators want to focus solely of saying goodbye. Controversy is not welcomed where respect is being paid to a deceased individual. Some viewers may disagree with Glee’s unusual path of avoidance. Glee has never been a program to sweep controversial issues under the rug or hide imperfections.  Although drug abuse is a severely tragic issue in our society and drug awareness is a key factor in prevention, subjective avoidance is appropriate for this tribute.

Government shutdown forcing people out of their homes

As the days pass since the government shutdown began last week, it seems as though its effects are hitting a little close to home—for some, it’s too close.  Sixty families have been forced out of their home in a nearby Las Vegas area today due to the fact that their house is technically a part of the Lake Mead Recreational area—a government property.

Given only a 24-hour notice, all residents have been asked to vacate their property for the remaining duration of the shutdown.  The government considers these homeowners to be “visitors” and put in the same category as tourists and campers although they own and have been residents of their homes for years.  These residents are being treated as though they are trespassers in their own homes.

If any of these residents refuse to leave their home, they will be issued a citation and sent to jail if they refuse to pay it.

The shutdown is entering its second week and has caused a lot of unexpected turmoil.  It’s hard for me to believe that this is something that can actually happen in an advanced society such as our country.  This has gone beyond just the closing of our government funded parks to effecting even the small business owner and countless other organizations that depend on the federal government for funding.

It will be interesting to see what kind of conclusion is reached to end this mess.  However, I am more convinced that this will be more of an “all for nothing” kind of effort whose pros will not outweigh the cons.

Possible changes coming for Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law

The controversial “Stand Your Ground” law played a part in why Sanford, Florida was top national news in America for about a year and a half. This law has come under fire ever since George Zimmerman was acquitted of the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin in February 2012. The “Stand Your Ground” law essentially means that if someone feels as though another person is threatening their life they can use deadly force to protect themselves.

Although Zimmerman did not actually use the “Stand Your Ground” law as his legal defense, people were still angered by the acquittal and associate the law with the outcome of the trial. Ever since the decision of the jury ended with Zimmerman’s acquittal, protesters have been insisting that Florida governor Rick Scott do something about the “Stand Your Ground” law, among other Florida policies. After a few months of protesting, Florida lawmakers decided to look into changing the laws.

Florida lawmakers won’t be making any major changes to the “Stand Your Ground” law. They will just make minor adjustments to it, such as not allowing people who are considered the attacker in the situation to use the “Stand Your Ground” law as a defense. Also, the revised law would require police and law enforcement to still complete a full investigation into cases where someone invokes the “Stand Your Ground” law.

Although Florida lawmakers say they have been planning on revising the “Stand Your Ground” laws even before the Zimmerman incident, there’s no question that the protesters are a big part of why lawmakers are now taking action. Even after these revisions take effect, I’m sure there will still be people protesting.
