Ryan Coogler, The Director Behind the New Movie, Creed

Creed, the seventh film in the Rocky film saga and the movie many have been talking about, isn’t only getting tons of buzz due to the history of its brother films or its handsome lead actor, Micheal B Jordan, but also due to it’s amazing directing. And the man to thank for that is the ,fairly new to the game of directing, Ryan Coogler. His first feature film, Fruitvale Station,  was released in 2013. The story detailed the last 24 hours of the life of Oscar Grant, an unarmed black man who was shot and killed by a police officer at the Fruitvale BART Station in Oakland, California on New Years day in 2009. The film which exemplified the current issues of injustice, gained what seemed to be the start of Coogler’s great journey in storytelling. The film earned the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for U.S. dramatic film at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

Ryan Coogler, 29,  was born in Oakland, California and he wasn’t always a writer. His freshmen year of college he went to Saint Mary’s College of California on scholarship where he red-shirted  as a wide receiver and planned on majoring in chemistry. It was his English professor, Rosemary Graham, who encouraged him to pursue screenwriting as a career.  A blessing in disguise came in 2004, when Saint Mary’s cancelled it’s football program, causing Coogler to transfer to Sacramento State. While there,  he played football and majored in finance but took as many film classes as he feasibly could. Later he attended USC School of Cinematic Arts, where he would then direct four short films, which went on to either be nominated or win awards.

You won’t believe what is in it: Avocados.

For those of us who love avocados and love to try and be healthy, I have the perfect solution. Replace butter and possibly other ingredients with avocados. That’s right, I did indeed say avocados. Avocados have been referred to as “God’s green butter”. Many of your favorite desserts could get a healthy makeover thanks to of the green stuff we call “Avocados”. The 3 ways I’m going to show you will pack more than just omega-3s and vitamins, the avocado makes them creamier and even more delicious.

Use them in smoothies in place of yogurt. If you’ve ever gotten used to a smoothie with yogurt, you know that creamy texture is hard to beat. And sure, bananas can lend that same creamy flavor, but sometimes you don’t want a smoothie to taste like bananas, and some of us don’t want all that sugar all the time, right? Well just 1/4 an avocado will do! It will give that same creamy, thick texture, but without the sugar and dairy.

Whip them into a batch of brownies and forget the butter. We all love sweet desserts, especially brownies. So what better way to eat them, then by making them healthy. BY adding avocados in place of butter or oil it makes them richer and provides that fatty flavor like butter and oil but without any negative health risks. Plus, they’re tasteless in the overall recipe itself.

Lastly, you can make them into mousse.You won’t need need for milk or cream. Avocados are a great way to make a healthy dessert like mousse that tastes like the rich, creamy pudding like dessert you’ve always loved. They help lend that whipped, fluffy texture. Also, it adapts to the flavor of whatever other ingredients you use in the mix.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer and the Current State of the MCU

The trailer for Marvel’s upcoming film Captain America: Civil War was released recently. Hitting theatres May 6th of 2016, Civil War pits Avenger against Avenger as Steve Rogers and Tony Stark duke it out. Based on the popular comic series of the same name, the plot relates to the government regulating superhuman activity. This puts Captain America and Iron Man on opposing sides and draws a ridged line within the superhero community.

Included in the cast list are the characters Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, Falcon, Hawkeye, Vision, and War Machine. It’s been said that Thor will not be making an appearance but there is still some question as to whether Hulk will.

The trailer shows glimpses of new characters yet to be introduced in the MCU, or Marvel Cinematic Universe, like Black Panther. Played by Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther will be getting his own film in 2018. There was some degree of set-up for T’Challa in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where we were introduced to his villain Klaw in his native Africa.

There are also currently rumors going around that Spider-man will be making an appearance. Considering Marvel is now sharing the character rights with Sony Pictures, it seems fairly likely that we will now be seeing Peter Parker soon in the MCU. Yet another Spider-man reboot is in the works.

Hero against hero seems to be a theme as of late in superhero movies, as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a DC title that will be on the big screen a couple of months before Captain America: Civil War.

Photos of a Dwarf Planet

Planet? Not a planet? An argument that naturally arises when someone starts talking about what NASA has confirmed as a dwarf planet, Pluto. NASA decided Pluto is not a planet because of its size and location in the solar system.

What’s exciting, is images traveled billions of millions to beam up pictures of the dwarf planet. The clearest and closest of any pictures NASA claims in history!

“New Horizons thrilled us during the July flyby with the first close images of Pluto, and as the spacecraft transmits the treasure trove of images in its onboard memory back to us, we continue to be amazed by what we see,” said John Grunsfeld, a former astronaut and the associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate.

The New Horizons spacecraft is what Grunsfeld is talking about. The spacecraft took them in July during its closest flyby of Pluto, which is at a distance from Earth that varies from 4.67 billion miles to 2.66 billion miles and they were among the most recent batch sent to back to our planet.

The images show Pluto’s surface has craters, mountains, and glacial terrain along a strip that stretched 50 miles. This is huge because NASA never had images this clear of the surface, so the dwarf planet had only assumptions of what the surface could be.

The images stretch from Pluto’s horizon about 500 miles northwest of Sputnik Planum  across the al-Idrisi mountains, over the shoreline of Sputnik and across its icy plains, NASA says.

It will still take about a year to transfer all the photos and data from the New Horizons craft, which first sped past Pluto back in July.

Researchers sit anxiously as they expect more images to come in over the next week, showing even more terrain at the highest resolution possible.

The Zuckerberg’s Gain A Baby and Pledge to Give Away Billions

This week, along with the announcement of their first child, Max, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have pledged to give away 99 percent of their forty-five and a half billion dollar fortune. The two, aged thirty-one and thirty respectively, will place the funds in a what they deem the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a LLC the mission of the organization is to “join people across the world to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation,” as stated by the couple on Facebook.

Since the days of Carnegie and Rockefeller, giving away fortunes and becoming a philanthropist is one of the many things that the country’s wealthiest seem to deem necessary. While not all are as young as the Facebook creator and his bride when deciding to be so immensely giving, the likes of Bill Gates and Michael Bloomberg have done the same and applaud Zuckerberg’s gesture. Of course, there’s always varying opinions, naturally, there are people who question Zuckerberg’s motives. Some say his the mission of his “organization” is too vague, they ponder about the fact that he chose to funnel the funds through a LLC and not another option.

Later in the week, Zuckerberg turned to Facebook to combat and refute all of the oppositions and implications that have arisen ever since the original announcement. Nevertheless, there is something to be admired of Mark and Priscilla for being globally charitable, not only for the present, but for the future.

Kim Kardashian Welcomes Newborn Son to the World

December 5th the infamous celebrity Kim Kardashian gave birth to her second-born

child with hip-hop star husband Kanye West by her side. The child come three weeks

earlier than the expected due date, but Kim recently posted a picture of her pregnant belly

with the caption “Ready whenever you are…” on Twitter the night before she gave birth.

The popular Hollywood couple admitted earlier a month before the birth that they still

weren’t sure about a name yet, but the name has been revealed- Easton West.

Their first child North West is 2 years old, and Kim is already talking about

a third child. Fans wondered if they would go with another directional name, and they

did. Kim Kardashian told Ellen DeGeneres that she rolled her eyes every time she was

asked if herself and Kanye were going to name their son South. A photo of baby Easton has

yet to be released, but back 2013 the couple waited a few weeks before releasing a photo of

their daughter North.

On the reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim has been very open

about her issues with fertility, and her difficulties with pregnancies. Multiple sources

have confirmed that she gave birth naturally, and the due date may have been pushed

forward to avoid complications during delivery. Things seem to have worked out nicely,

and Kim herself posted a photo holding her husband’s hand to announce the news that

their son Easton was born. Congratulations, West family, hopefully a picture of the baby

will be coming soon.

Officials Now Treating San Bernardino Shootings As Terrorism

Authorities are now treating the recent shootings in San Bernardino, California as terrorism.  The massacre that left 14 dead and over 20 wounded was carried out by two married assailants that have been shown to have links to terror organizations.  The suspects, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, are thought to have been motivated by Islamic extremist ideologies.

Farook was an American born citizen with family roots in Pakistan.  He was 28 years old and had recently travelled to Saudi Arabia for the Islamic Hajj.  He returned with his new found wife Malik, 29 years old, whom he had previously met on an online Muslim dating site.  Malik was born in Pakistan and married Farook while they were in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.  They both returned to the U.S. legally and did not alert any security authorities.  They had a 6 month old baby girl.

Authorities say Farook had communicated online and by phone in the past with individuals on watch lists and known terrorism supporters.  This communication was described as light, but details are not fully available.  Farook was known to take his religion very seriously and enjoyed studying the holy scriptures.

Although no terror organizations claimed responsibility for the attack, officials have uncovered that Malik posted a pledge of allegiance to ISIS on Facebook right before the attack occurred at the Inland Regional Center where Farook was an employee.  Days after the attack, ISIS has released statements of support for the two suspects in the attack.

A few days before the attacks occurred, Farook reportedly was involved in discussions and arguments about religion with a co-worker named Nicholas Thalasinos.  Thalasinos was killed in the attack along with 13 other co-workers.  Farook was angry with Thalasinos, a messianic Jew, and allegedly made statements like “Islam will rule the world”.  Farook also made threats to Thalasinos who frequently discussed politics and religion and was very critical of ISIS.

Telltale Games releases first look at upcoming title, “The Walking Dead: Michonne”

The Walking Dead has become a multimedia success since its comic book debut in 2003. Written by Robert Kirkman and illustrate by Tony Moore, it has expanded into the territories of television (in which it finds itself as the highest-rated scripted series) and video games. The most recent video game announcement occurred on June 15th, 2015 at E3 2015 – Telltale Games’s The Walking Dead: Michonne.

A staple of the The Walking Dead universe, Michonne is famous for her complex relationships and her zombie-stained katana. She is one of the longest-lived characters in the comic series and one of the most beloved main characters in the television series. Now, she is receiving her very own video game that takes place in the comic book universe, documenting her disappearance in Issue #126 and what transpired before her return in Issue #139.

In proper Telltale Games fashion, the game will be released episodically over the course of several months beginning in February 2016. It will be considered a mini-series, and thus will consist of only three episodes rather than the typical five episodes, or in the case of the recent Telltale Games’s Game of Thrones – Season One, six episodes.

The trailer released this week reveals little in the way of plot, but promises action, armed antagonists, and past ghosts that Michonne must overcome to find her way home. Along with The Walking Dead protagonist Rick Grimes, he and Michonne are the ones that have lost the most in the ongoing zombie apocalypse, and it will no-doubt be a vital part of the story that is to come.

The Walking Dead: Michonne will be available across multiple platforms, including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS, Kindle Fire HDX, and Android. There will be more information regarding game-play and story as the launch date grows closer.

NBA Superstar Kobe Bryant Announces His Retirement

Basketball superstar Kobe Bryant announces his retirement; this season, his twentieth in the NBA will be his last. Bryant is considered one of the best basketball players of all time, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to five NBA titles. Unfortunately as we all know all good things must come to an end. Kobe stated in his Player’s Tribune “This season is all I have left to give. My heart can take the pounding, my mind can handle the grind, but my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.”

Bryant, the Philadelphia native dominated the courts for two decades. Kobe entered the NBA straight out of high school; playing for the Los Angeles Lakers for a record of twenty years, his entire career, which is unusual because NBA basketball players (for the most part) are constantly being drafted.  Kobe Bryant has five NBA championships, is a 17 time all-star, has two Olympic gold medals, and has score more points than the great Michael Jordan himself.

The ending of an incredible 20 year career has Kobe’s fans flooding social media with nostalgic posts, with hashtags like #GOAT (greatest of all time) and #Greatest, fans were also comparing his footprint in the NBA to Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. Kobe says he is very blessed and thankful for the amount of support he has received from his fans throughout the years. Bryant is at peace with his decision and is ready to say goodbye to his first love, basketball; he says is the right time and cannot wait to see what life has in-store ahead, this is just the beginning for Kobe Bryant.

When Hispanic family moved to the U.S, they normally do so because their home countries are not safe, and they want a fresh start, but getting here and with almost no money is hard for anyone. Imagining that you have to pay for therapy sessions for your family’s mental health is really scary to hear. But the U.S thankfully is acknowledging all this, they are trying to develop new policies in regards with the immigration reform, so families no longer have to stress out so much. That’s why discrimination can get you bad, when they hear other people’s story, of course it frustrates them too, knowing that they might also get deported and knowing that they have to go back from where they left might be the scariest and most disappointing truths of all. But for those who do get the chance to stay here and fight for what they came for and have gotten to a depressive place because of all the trouble, the U.S while developing the new policies they thought it will be a good idea to put out there an Affordable Care Act, which helps those in need get the help they need for a reasonable price, if not even complementary depending on each person. This is absolutely amazing, even with all the garbage someone might come in, here the get the opportunity to get help from a solitary country who tries not to pay attention to the stereotypes that their culture brings because like the article states “anti-immigrant policies and negative public discourse lead to perceived discrimination among Latinos, which may impact mental health.”
