Feminism in the 21st century

Decades ago there was a movement growing in the 1960s and 70s, the fight for equality for women. To be recognized and acknowledged not only as a mere wife or mother, but as a respected citizen of our society. So what happened to that powerful movement? Where are the droves of women? Or are they just in hiding? It seems as though there has been a submergence in the feminist movement in the 21st century. Many women today feel as though we have taken immense strides to get to where we are today. But where is that exactly? Women still average less pay than a man, have the constant burden of taking care of family and child care while in the workforce, and being expected to fulfill the traditional role of a wife and mother. Women have in a sense, reverted back to the ways of which the women before us fought so hard to overcome. We have accepted society’s view of what to expect when you are born a woman. As women of the 21st century, we must start a new movement of feminism! We must still fight for equality and raise society’s standards and awareness of what the modern day woman is and looks like. The modern day feminist could be your mother, sister, friend, or daughter; where do you stand?
