The Mental Illness called “Creativity”

Many creative individuals in the world including, Edvard Munch, Vincent Van Gogh, and all of the artists today have suffered from some type of mental disorder in their lives. Research states that those artists may suffer from clinical depression, anxiety, anorexia and even schizophrenia. Also many creatives had an unusually high number of mood disorders which explains the ideas and thoughts that they were able to convey visually. Researchers say that there is a “Method to their Madness”, which would indicate their inner mental disorders distorting the life that they themselves see. A study was conducted on a million Swedes and their relatives suffering from a variety of different mental disorders.  Scientists found that 8% of photographers, dancers and authors were more likely to live with bipolar disorder. 50% of writers were found to have a higher risk of suicide than the general population.

Schizophrenia has played a huge role in the creative mind dating back to the 1800’s when authors and artists were starting to strive in the society. Researchers linked this mental illness to creativity but they are still trying to figure out the details to how it does. Schizotypy, which is a less severe form of Schizophrenia was also found in many creative thinkers. The subjects were found unable to disregard details of everyday objects and analyzed them to their fullest extent. This is what caused them to think in detail and thus allowed them to create some of the most fascinating pieces of art in society today.

Numerous Parents Migrate to Colorado for Medical Marijuana Strain

Marijuana is finally legal in Colorado and you’d begin to think that the amount of headlines involving the new legislation would be overwhelming. Most of the information that was displayed was pretty much expected, mass amounts of profit with no one running down the streets reenacting “Reefer Madness”. What really caught my eye however was the new medical breakthrough involving a specific strain titled “Charlotte’s Web” that is known for providing relief among children who are suffering from seizures and epilepsy.

The strain is named after a little girl named Charlotte Figi who had a severe case of epilepsy, causing the unfortunate girl to suffer over three hundred seizures in a weeks time. The mass amount of medication and treatment that was given to her seemed practically useless, as her condition never improved. That is until Charlotte’s mother Paige discovered Josh Stanley’s miracle strain of marijuana.

The strain was actually originally named “Hippie’s Disappointment” due to the minuscule amount of THC in the strain that actually removes the psychoactive effects of marijuana. In other words, you don’t get high at all from using this strain. Rather than THC, the strain is high in what’s called cannabidiol, or CBD. CBD is known to treat seizures, and after turning the Charlotte’s Web strain into an oil, Charlotte’s seizures dramatically lowered in number going from multiple a day to just one or two that last a few seconds each.

Medical Marijuana has had research done on it for decades and yet new discoveries are made on a daily basis. The new strain has brought hope to countless families across the United States, and many parents have decided to move their entire lives to Colorado just to hopefully find a cure for their children. Never in my life would I have ever thought a form of marijuana would be able to affect children’s lives so much in a positive way. The worlds views on the little plant has come a far way, and hopefully it will be viewed as much more than just a hippy plant to make you feel good. With hemp being a very viable resource for many needs across the world, Colorado and Washington won’t be alone for too long in the war on drugs.

Avalanches Isolates City and Cuts Off Transportation

The Alaskan city of Valdez has been completely cut off from the outside world, blocking the one major road available to drivers coming in and out of the town.

The first Avalanche occurred on Friday and more followed on Saturday. The Saturday Avalanches led the town officials to set up a shelter for the town of 4,000 at a local high school. Officials have said that the highway will be closed for about a week.

At this time these officials strongly urge the town residents to evacuate their homes and take advantage of the shelter. According to officials, water has started to build up behind the snow which can break through and carry the debris from the avalanches through the small town.

Other sources from the town website of Valdez have assured people that they do have plenty of fuel on hand and in case of an emergency, can attain more fuel and food by barge.

The video link below, brought to you by CNN, shows images of the great Avalanche after it tumbled down onto the road:

Loudmouth and Whats2hot Rock the Shingle Creek Golf Club

On Saturday January 18th 2014, the Tilted Kilt on International Drive teamed up with Loudmouth Golf to bring the Tilted Kilt Open. The Shingle Creek Golf Club hosted this wonderful event, and a portion of the proceeds went towards the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), which raises awareness and money for wounded soldiers and their families. Whats2hot was very proud to take part in this great event and to be the official social media sponsor of the Tilted Kilt Open.

The Shingle Creek Golf Club presents challenges to players of all levels and has consistently been rated as one of Orlando’s best golf courses since opening in 2003. Our state-of-the-art practice facility provides Orlando golfers with everything they need to work on their game.

Since the beginning, golf clothing was not the most fashionable around. Grey and Khaki were pretty much all the players wore, and no one really stood out on the green. Khakis for golf weren’t going to cut it for Loudmouth founder Scott Woodworth. He found some fabric with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and company on golf carts on a powder blue background and made himself a pair of golf pants of questionable taste. Today, loudmouth golf recognized as the leading brand in “outrageous, fun golf apparel for men.”

While the concept behind Tilted Kilt has roots deep in the tradition of Scottish, Irish and English pubs, it was actually first invented in Las Vegas by Mark DiMartino. His concept was a “contemporary Celtic-themed sports Pub staffed with beautiful servers in sexy plaid kilts and matching bras.” Today, it is a thriving franchise that is a favorite for many locals and visitors alike.

Mother Accused Of Killing Her 2 Sons By Leaving Them In A Car With The Heat On While Having Sex Nearby

I’m pretty sure the name Heather Jensen sounds a little familiar. She is a Colorado mom whose two sons died in November 2012 of hypothermia — extreme heat– after being left in their family car. Jensen’s 2- and 4-year-old sons died in November 2012 when she left them in her SUV with the motor running and the heater on while she had sex and smoked marijuana in another vehicle nearby. Well, fast forward to today, and Jensen is in court on charges of child abuse and criminally negligent homicide.
Jensen’s sons died after she had strapped them into car seats in the back of her SUV and drove to the Grand Mesa east of Grand Junction to meet a male friend. She told her live-in boyfriend that she was taking the kids to play in the snow, the police investigation showed.
In addition, just wait until you hear what prosecutors say she was DOING while her 2- and 4-year-old sons lay dying. The allegation is the 25-year-old, whose husband had died just two months prior, was having sex. It certainly puts a salacious spin on the already troubling tragedy.

Lewis laid out a timeline that had Jensen leaving her boys in her car for nearly 90 minutes. Tyler opened and closed the car door about half an hour after she first left them in the car. Jensen went back to her vehicle and gave Tyler her cellphone to play with before locking the kiddie locks and returning to her friend’s truck for more than half an hour. Tests done later on the vehicle showed the temperature could have reached 140 degrees.

“Ms. Jensen created the situation that caused her children to die,” prosecutor Danielle Lewis told the jury of 10 women and five men. “It was a tragedy, but it was an accident. It was not a crime,” said public defender Elsa Archambault.

Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett: The Return of 2 Celtic greats to the TD Garden

In the 2007 NBA offseason, the Boston Celtics had traded for 10 time All-Star and 2004 League MVP Kevin Garnett to start him alongside Paul Pierce and recently acquired Ray Allen. Thus the “Big 3” era in Boston basketball had begun. 6 years later, after winning a championship their first year and Ray Allen leaving the offseason before, the era came to an end when the Celtics traded these 2 Hall of Famers to the Brooklyn Nets, shaking up the entire NBA world in hopes of rebuilding for the future.

On January 26th, 2014 the Brooklyn Nets traveled to Boston to face the Celtics in their first game in Boston playing against the Celtics since the trade. Many were wondering how much emotion would be shown by these two, being as Paul Pierce had played for 15 years and Kevin Garnett for 6 in Boston, many figured there may be a whole lot of emotion which may affect the way they play. After each of their video tributes played for their years there, and the standing ovations that each one received from the Boston faithful, they still had to play a basketball game. It was obvious that this emotion affected their play as they each scored only 6 points, but the Nets were able to defeat the rebuilding Celtics.

So in the end, regardless of the outcome of the game it was nice to be able to have the Celtics fans give their appreciation for what these two legendary Celtic players did for the organization and move forward.

Political Statement Steal the Show at the Grammys

“The right-wing conservatives think it’s a decision/And you can be cured with some treatment and religion/Man-made rewiring of a predisposition, playing God, aw nah here we go/America the brave still fears what we don’t know/And God loves all his children, is somehow forgotten/But we paraphrase a book written 3500 years ago.”

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis burst onto the music scene this year with his hit single ‘Thrift Shop.’ As his fame increased so to did his influence. He then took on a pretty controversial topic in his song ‘Same Love.’ The quote above is taken from the song and slams anti-gay marriage advocates.

At the Grammys this weekend Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed their song for millions of television viewers. It was not your typical Grammy performance though. During the song Queen Latifah officiated a live marriage ceremony for 34 couples both gay and straight. Madonna, a longtime advocate for gay rights, even joined in on the performance. A touching ceremony, it left the entire audience in a standing ovation. Country singer Keith Urban was even caught wiping tears.

The show stopping performance brought up a lot of debate and emotion. Social media platforms like Twitter were buzzing with positive and negative feedback. Some viewed the event as a “blatant attack on religious views” and that it was anti Christian propaganda. Others found it moving, one tweet reading “Straight, gay, black, white…love is love.”

Whether you agree with the message or not, it got people talking which is exactly what the producers wanted. One music’s biggest night, political statements stole the show.

High School Student Expelled For Participating in Porn Films

Cocoa High School Senior Robert Marucci has been kicked out of school for performing in adult films.  What started out as a way for Robery Marucci to earn some extra money for his family, has turned into quite a controversy.  Some people are even saying that this could turn into a supreme court case.

Robert Marucci is an 18 year old senior at Cocoa High School.  When Robert’s family fell on hard times, he decided he needed a way to make more money to support them.  The solution to Robert Marucci’s money problems seemed to lie in the adult film industry.  Robert sees acting in adult films as just like any other job, but others don’t quite see it that way.

Cocoa High School expelled Marucci after news of his roles in the porn industry spread.  Students were looking at the websites with their phones in class and bullying Robert.  The school stated that he was expelled for causing serious disruptions and also threatening to bring weapons to school, which is something that Robert completely denies.

Many supporters of Robert Marucci, including myself, believe that Cocoa High School has infringed on Robert’s first amendment rights as an American citizen.  He should have the right to do whatever he wants in his spare time.  The work that he was doing was in no way affiliated with the school and he was of legal age to be working in the adult film industry.  Robert Marucci’s mom, Melyssa Lieb, says that she knew what her son was doing and thought he was brave for trying to help his family in any way he could.

Pot makes it’s debut alongside cotton candy this year at a Colorado county fair.

Denver Colorado will see a new addition to it’s traditional plant growing competitions, and carnival games: Marijuana. The recently legalized herb is expected to be seen in events such as a joint rolling competition, THC baking contests, and hemp created fabric displays.

The events featuring marijuana will not be open to all fair goers, you must be twenty one years of age or older to be given access to the county fair’s “Pot Pavilion”. Other restrictions reflect the cautious nature our country still has towards marijuana: the joint rolling competition will use oregano as a stand in for pot, and the pot plants themselves will not be present in the fair’s pavilion, only photos of the plants.

Other interesting events held at Denver’s county fair include a Doritos eating competition, home brewed beer, wine, and liquor judging, a text messaging speed contest, and a bicycle rodeo. This reflects the organizer’s goal to create a cool urban element to help grow past their previous year’s attendance number of 20,000.

Tracy Weil, the Denver County Fair’s marketing and creative director commented on their county’s new twist to the traditional view of a country fair: “We thought it was time for us to take that leap and represent one of the things Denver has going on.” The Denver county fair, which first started in 2011, will remain alone in it’s state with additions of marijuana themed contests. Routt County Fair organizers in western Colorado voted last year against allowing pot related attractions into their event, and the Colorado State Fair officials have shown no interested in making Marijuana additions to their state fair.

Cincinnati Reds: 2014 Season Preview

After a tight division race in 2013 that saw the top three teams in the National League Central win at least 90 games, the Cincinnati Reds look to improve and win the division.

Last year, the Reds went 90-72 and made the playoffs as the second wild card team.  They experienced an early exit though as they lost the do or die wild card game to the up and coming Pittsburgh Pirates.  Many teams would be satisfied with this type of season, but for a team like the Reds who have made the playoffs and lost in the first round three out of the past four seasons, this was far from satisfying.

Looking ahead to this upcoming season, the Reds seem ready to contend for the NL Central once again.  The hottest topic about this team seems to be Billy Hamilton cracking the starting lineup.  This speedy center fielder took the big leagues by storm as a base-stealing threat.  He’ll have big shoes to fill with the departure of Shin Soo Choo who was an on-base machine.  The sky is the limit for this talented young player.

Injuries seemed to plague the Reds last year.  Johnny Cueto, Ryan Ludwick, Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, Sean Marshall, and Jonathan Broxton were the main casualties and look to bounce back with a healthy 2014.  Barring these injuries, the Reds may have one of the best pitching staffs in the MLB.  From their outstanding starting rotation, to their lockdown bullpen, the pitching seems to be their biggest strength.

Overall, injuries are a part of the game and happen to every team.  If they can stay healthy and Joey Votto can put together an MVP type of season, I can see the Reds making a deep playoff run.
