First Democratic Debate A Big Success for Sanders and Clinton

The first of many democratic debates took place Tuesday night in Las Vegas introducing the public to the likes of Hilary Clinton, Bernie Sander, Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee. Moderating the debate was CNN news anchor and journalist Anderson Cooper, whose home network was also hosting the debate. Surprisingly most candidates stuck to the issues, played to their strengths and perhaps most surprisingly, strayed as far away as possible from insulting one another in what was a well-run and informative debate.

Hilary Clinton came out strong, pushing the issues she’s always championed and according to recent polls, appealed the most to democratic voters. Clinton currently leads almost every poll in her bid for nomination as well. Bernie Sanders also emerged as a strong debater and at the moment he stands as the only real competition to Hilary Clinton. Sanders spoke on issues such as tax reform, income disparity, as well as climate change, but most voters say Sanders only strongly appealed to his current group of close knit supporters instead of reaching across the party to gather more democratic support. Sanders biggest issue during his campaign has been the fact he is often criticized for not being electable enough because he refuses to broaden his appeal.

On the other hand, Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee fit the democratic mold, but were not outstandingly impressive according to post-debate polls. Luckily all the candidates have a few months and a handful of more debates before the primaries begin. Time will only tell how the race shapes up to be and if Hilary Clinton can remain the powerful front runner.

Playboy Magazine to Stop Publishing Fully Nude Photos, Effective Next Spring

The excessive access to pornography since the Internet revolution has changed the image and importance of Playboy magazine, CEO Scott Flanders and founder Hugh Hefner have agreed to stop publishing fully nude photos in their infamous magazine. This announcement was made October 13, but the major change will not be effective until March of next year. The magazine is no longer profitable in the United States, but it is used a marketing tool for international editions.

The decision to give up publishing images that bare all has a lot to do with the audience Playboy is targeting. With all fantasies imaginable only a click away for the millennial generation, Playboy is steering away from nudity being the reader’s reason to pick up the magazine. Content creators say it will make the magazine more accessible and intimate. The women will still be in provocative poses, but the photos will now suitable for ages 13 and older. Playboy’s social media accounts and online sites have slowly been steering away from nudity.

There is a fear that this may risk losing even more readers, as the magazine has only sold 800,000 issues this year, compared to the 5.6 million copies sold 40 years ago. Some fans have turned to twitter to argue that the change defeats the purpose of the magazine. In households where Playboy once was a rite a passage for young men, the sensation the magazine once had is now lost. The days of finding hidden Playboys under the mattress will be over, and it will be believable that they were picked up for the articles.

Playboy No Longer Showing Nudity In Their Magazine Starting January 2016.

Playboy shake up, what people are calling the ultimate cover-up. Starting 2016 the Playboy Magazine will no longer feature women nude. After sixty-two years of sexy centerfolds the adult magazine is changing its approach. The gentlemen’s magazine wants to tone down their content and have “a little more intimate” PG-13 approach to their material. With all the sexual content one can find in the internet for free the magazine readership plummeted drastically throughout the years. Forty years ago the Playboy Magazine had a massive following of about 5.6 million loyal readers; however, now a days the men’s magazine following has dropped significantly to about 800,000 readers.

Hugh Heffner, the owner of the men’s lifestyle and entertainment magazine founded Playboy in Chicago, around the early 1950s. The Playboy Magazine made its debut in 1953, having Marilyn Monroe as their inaugural centerfold. Heffner started the company with his associates and in part by a $1,000 loan from his mom. Several years later, Hugh converted the small magazine into an empire brand that is now recognized all over the world. Heffner is still alive and at age 89 is still as passionate about Playboy as he was when he first founded the magazine in his late twenties.

With such odd, yet bold move, the Playboy team wants to revolutionized the picture of sex in America; moreover, they want to target the millennial generation, which are heavily drawn into artwork. The Playboy issues are now going to be filled with tasteful female art instead of nudity. Last, and perhaps the most important reason why Playboy is transitioning is because a great portion of their income comes from licensing contracts; fragrances, jewelry, and clothes all carry the bunny logo and the removal of nudity will allow them to reach a more diverse audience, which means getting the company back to having millions of followers again in the future.

Pope Francis’ 50 minute address to Congress about the U.S. nation’s pressing issues

Pope Francis landed in Washington D.C., late afternoon on September 22nd at the Joint Base Andrews for his six day U.S. visit. He accepted an invitation to speak at the House Of Representative.

On September 24th, Pope Francis spoke to the House of Representatives, as a global political leader, rather than a religious/moral voice alone. His fifty minute speech stressed on the pressing issues of immigration, global warming and poverty. He also mentioned abolition of the death penalty, the protection of ethnic and religious minorities, arms wars and the protection of families.

Pope Francis made counter-arguments to conservative Donald Trump’s campaign towards the deportment of 10 million undocumented immigrants, stating that “I say this to you as the son of immigrants, knowing that so many of you are also descended from immigrants”. The Pope mentioned one of the reasons many immigrants sought to the United States for refuge was for the right and freedoms our founding fathers wrote in the Declaration of Independence.

Pope Francis challenged Congress to continue to address Global Warming issues, “he called for a courageous and responsible effort to avert “environmental deterioration caused by human activity”.

Pope Francis’ speech favored both Republican and Democratic partisans, according to Republican Senator Mike, “We found ourselves standing up and sitting down more than what we anticipated”.

Actor Shia LeaBouf arrested for public intoxication in Texas

The Transformers star has had various run-ins with the law, but his most recent involves being arrested for public intoxication, police in Texas say.

The police arrested LeaBouf near an extremely popular area in downtown Texas, Sixth street.

“Due to pending adjudication, no further details will be released at this point in time the Austin Police Department said in a statement.

Last year Leabeouf had a mental breakdown on Broadway. He agreed to get alcohol abuse treatment as part of a settlement related to the meltdown. The actor was initially arrested by NYPD in June of last year for using obscene language, spitting onto a police officer and refusing to leave a Broadway performance when asked politely. Finally they had to take action.

LaBeouf rose to fame at the young age of 14 as the star of the Disney series “Even Stevens.”

Since then, he has starred in three “Transformers” movies, and has appeared on television in various roles as well.

LaBeouf also writes screenplays, although he was accused of plagiarizing from another writer in 2013.

As you can see, the public intoxication is just another notch on LaBeouf’s belt.

Jail records show LaBeouf was booked Friday night into the Travis County Jail and released on his own recognizance. No attorney was listed on the record.

We can all only hope that his behavior goes up from here. There seems to be a pattern with child stars turning into poor behaved individuals- Lindsey Lohan, Hilary Duff, the list goes on…

Austin Police Department says that they hope to never see this reckless behavior from Leabeouf again.

Canon Is Looking For The Big Picture With New Sensor Tech!

As the film industry continues to transition away from traditional celluloid film to digital sensors, we are seeing major advances in digital sensor technology. Sensors are becoming higher resolution, higher sensitivity, higher dynamic range, and all the while becoming cheaper. Canon just announced a new stills sensor that they say has 250 Megapixels (250 Million pixels) that can create a staggering 19,580 x 12,600 pixel image. And while this is a stills only sensor, it just goes to show what Canon is capable of with sensors today.

Fresh off the announcement of the replacement for the very popular Canon C300, the C300 Mk2, Canon has just announced a new member to the Cinema EOS Series. Though it doesn’t have a name yet, Canon claims that this new, yet to be released, camera will have an 8k sensor. They also claim that it will be able to deliver that 8,192 x 4,320 pixel image at an impressive 60 frames per second and that it will also boast 13 stops of dynamic range. This puts Canon back into the race (and possibly ahead) against RED’s 6k Weapon, and Arri’s 6k Alexa 65. This is an interesting new development from Canon as they have traditionally been slow to make major leaps in technology. They seem to go with the “see what everyone else is doing and do it better” idea. This development isn’t all that surprising though. Now that the Canon C300 Mk2 can shoot 4k internally, this made the C500 (which can also shoot 4k, but requires an external 4k recorder in order to do so) some what obsolete. It only makes sense that Canon would come out with something higher than 4k to replace the C500. Whether this new camera will replace the C500 has yet to be determined, but it would make sense if it did.

A deep gash from the ocean leads a man to uncover a cancerous tumor

Eugene Finney along with his two kids and girl friend were at Huntington Beach to visit his parents in July. They arrived at the beach in the morning and Temple, 10 asked her dad to go for a swim. Eugene and Temple went out 100 yards from the shore. A large wave caused Eugene to dive under to break the wave with Temple, where he was hit. “I was hit in the back hard. Really hard. I’ve never been hit that hard in my life” Eugene shared. When Eugene and Temple reached the shore, they had discovered a large gash on the upper part of his back. His girlfriend, Emeline McKeown and son Turner, 6 stated they saw fins around the area where they had been swimming. They assumed that it was a possible shark attack due to the many sighting of great white sharks in the area.

When Finney return to Massachusetts, he complained that he was having trouble sleeping and chest pains. Finney went to the St.Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton where they found inflammation around his heart. They examined his injury and found a walnut sized tumor on his right kidney. Finney had surgery in September by Dr. Ingolf Tuerk and the tumor was removed as well as twenty percent of his kidney. Tuerk stated that if the tumor was not discovered as early as it was, it would have grown over the next few years and would not be as successful to remove.

AT&T Now Offers Free Wi-Fi Calls

If you are an AT&T user, and you have an iPhone 6 or 6s, you can now make phone calls using only your Wi-Fi connection.

The Call-through-WiFi feature allows your phone to automatically change its connection to WI-Fi in order to make phone calls during those times when your receptions isn’t good enough, or it’s just not available. Your text messages will also be sent through those networks. No need for a Log In or for you to download an app, as long as your iPhone is updated to iOS 9. You do need to activate the Wi-Fi calls on your “Phone Settings”.

There is no charge to use this feature, although these phone calls are not free if you are calling outside the United States or Puerto Rico. AT&T is not leading the game necessarily, given the fact that T-Mobile and Sprint already started offering this feature a couple years ago, including free Wi-Fi calls for other Android phones, not just those made between iPhones. Great news for AT&T customers though! For example, T-mobile offers this service to 19 phone models, and almost all of the Sprint Android smart phones also offer it.

In other iPhone related news, the ‘6s’ model of the Apple phone has reported a slower uptake compared to last year’s iPhone 6 models. Chuck Jones, a contributor for Forbes Magazine reported this week the following: “Apple has a larger install base this will help mitigate a slower uptake. […] One factor to take into account is that Fiksu’s and Localytic’s don’t capture all the iPhones in usage especially in foreign markets. While they may not correctly capture Apple’s actual sales I do believe they give a decent indication of iPhone trends.” These reports reflect the possible decline of the Apple fans’ satisfaction towards the brand and its products.

Mental Health Stigma Has Lasting Damaging Effect in the US

After any mass shooting tragedy occurs it surfaces two topics of discussion: gun control and mental health. The Obama administration has made it clear that it seeks reform in regards to the current gun control laws in America and the Republican party actively protects the right to carry and insists that these shootings are a result of lacking an effective mental health. After the recent shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg Oregon that left 10 people dead, many of the Republican candidates responded:

“This isn’t guns, this is about really mental illness.”  (Donald Trump in interview with ABC News)

“Many of these shootings we have people who have mental disturbances.” (Dr. Ben Carson in interview with FOX News)

“Do we need to do a better job in mental health? You bet we do.” (Mike Huckabee on Oregon school shooting in interview with CNN)

These interviews were conducted within days of the shooting in Oregon.

The issue of mental health in regards to gun control has violently hurt the view of mental health in America. Based on studies fewer than 5% of the 120,000 gun related killings were perpetrated by people diagnosed with mental illness. As a matter of fact, it has been shown that it is more likely for people suffering from mental health disorder to be the victims in a shooting. But even if these candidates spoke the truth then why haven’t more efforts been aimed at reducing mental health in the US? Mike Huckabee himself got a grade of D- on mental health care while he was in office in Arkansas.

In 2013 an estimated 43.8 million adults in the US had any mental illness. Furthermore an estimated 10 million had serious mental illness in the past year. With a lack of funding of major mental health prevention organizations the result is that 2,000,000 people suffering from mental illness are put in jail each year. This means there are now more than 10 times the amount of people with mental disturbances in jail then psychiatric treatment.

If the issue of mental health is to be associated with gun violence then America has a lot to answer for by letting this issue flourish.

Solar Energy, US’s Fastest Growing Power Source.

With advances in technology, Solar power is quickly becoming the fastest growing energy source in the United States. Photovoltaic panels which are one of the core components in solar energy capture, are becoming cheaper and more efficient, which is helping to spur the transition to clean energy. 10 years ago, these panels were many times more expensive, thus making energy companies and homeowners alike hesitate to purchase them despite the need for more clean energy. Also the efficiency at which the older generation panels can capture and convert solar energy into useable power, where no where near what the newest generation are capable of. Meaning they can either use smaller panels to create small solar arrays and cover less area, or produce more power within an existing area. Also government subsidies and federal tax credits are also helping to grow the industry by helping cover some of the cost that comes with building the new solar infrastructure. As a result, Solar power has seen a 30 percent increase in 2014 and is projected to double by 2016.

Not to be outdone, the sunshine state is upping its game in the solar power industry. We currently have several solar arrays in Florida, including the Martin Next Generation Solar Energy Center, in Martin County. It is a 75 Megawatt power plan and currently the largest solar thermal plant in the state. The largest photovoltaic array is the 25MW DeSoto Next Gen Solar Energy Center in DeSoto County. But Duke Energy is planning to out do all of those with a 500 MW solar plant of their own in the near future with several other companies to follow suit.
