Marco Rubio Wants the Public To Focus On The Real Issues, Not Just the Superficial Ones

Marco Rubio recently spoke out about what he thought was an injustice as far as coverage of the upcoming election. he pointed out that people are still so concerned about whether President Barack Obama is a US citizen, what religion he practices or where he was born. All of those things now are so minuscule because in fact they do not matter at this point in time. If any of those rumors were true the time to call someone out on it was before he was sworn into office. He has been in office for nearly two terms now the focus needs to shift from his nationality and religion to the issues that are pressing everyday Americans.

Rubio pointed out in this three hour long debate they only barely scratched the surface when it came to the state of the economy and the new President plan to fix the problems that persist. Rather it was a he-said, she said competition. trying to sling dirt at each other straying even further from the problem at hand. Elections have become a superficial thing in a lot of aspects because of the way that they are covered, people are expected to have a whole PR team behind them monitoring the press, getting them on cooking shows and reality contest all to get their name out there. While in reality who can make the best scrambled eggs has very little to do with who can run the country the best.

Rubio appears to want to keep the theatrics aside and focus on the issues at hand moving forward. I am not sure on his views for the country but I can respect that he wants to keep the election about what is important and what is going to be the best for the country.

Orlando City Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive

In their inaugural season in the MLS, the Orlando City Lions have had their ups and downs. Just after ending their six game winless streak last week against Sporting Kansas City it was another positive week for the Lions as they stormed into Toyota Park, to take on the Chicago Fire, and pull out a huge 1-0 win, to keep their playoff chances alive.

Meeting for a fourth time this season, Orlando City now has the upper hand in the season series, with two wins over the Fire. The game was a typical midfield stalemate with limited chances from both teams, but in the 18th minute a screamer off the boot of Carlos Rivas rattled the crossbar turned out to be Orlando City’s best chance of the first half.  Chicago had a valiant effort, as the last place team in the Eastern Conference of the MLS gave the Lions all they could, before conceding a heart-breaking 86th minute goal to substitute Bryan Rochez.

Orlando City is now 9-8-13, with 35 points and are in seventh place in the East, only one point behind the Montreal Impact who also won their meeting against the New England Revolution. With only four weeks left in the season, the Lion Firm, have a huge game against the Impact on October third, that could be potentially a playoff game in itself.

With the other expansion team, New York City FC, clipping at their heels, the Lions really need to keep this form in order to emerge as the 6th seed, and if everything falls right maybe even the 5th seed. With a little luck and hard work, the Lions could make the Orlando City faithful even more proud if they can make the playoffs in their first season. Only time will tell what the actual playoff picture will paint itself to be, but if Orlando City wants to be apart of the portrait, they need to continue playing with this high intensity.

10-year-old boy rescues children from submerged school bus

A young boy is getting the hero treatment after he jumped to action in helping rescue some of his classmates.

The Tampa Tribune reported Nicholas Sierra, A fifth grader from Mary E. Bryant Elementary School in Tampa, Florida,  rescued three students from a partially submerged bus following a crash.

27 students were on board the bus heading home from school when the vehicle skid off the road, slamming into trees before crashing into a pond last Thursday.

Only minor injuries were reported.

The driver said he believes the brakes may have failed.

Before Hillsborough County Deputies arrived on the scene, Sierra pulled a kindergartner out of the bus and brought her to safety before heading back on board and bringing out two more students.

“I grabbed the kindergartner’s arms and put them around my neck and brought her to land,” Sierra told the Tampa Tribune, “and then I went back to the bus and grabbed to other kindergartners and I also took them to land.”

Parents reportedly showed up and dove into the water to remove any children that could not escape on their own.

Responding deputies could be seen removing their gun belts and equipment, later combing through the entirety of bus and checking under seats to make sure no children were left behind.

The 10-year-old hero is a safety patrol at his school and told the newspaper he felt obligated to dive in and help.

“It wouldn’t be fair if they died and I lived,” Sierra explained.

The driver was seen repeatedly hitting the brakes leading up to the incident, but a direct cause can not be determined until mechanics complete their inspection of the vehicle.

Kerry Prepares the US for 85,000 Syrian Refugees in 2016, 100,00 in 2017

Secretary of State John Kerry announced this Sunday that the US will be significantly increasing its intake of worldwide refugees in the coming two years. At a news conference with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Kerry stated that “the U.S. will accept 85,000 refugees from around the world next year, up from 70,000, and that total would rise to 100,000 in 2017.” The US was previously intending to take on only 10,000 additional refugees. Kerry was prepared to increase the number even further, but post-9/11 background checks and a lack of funding has kept him from doing so.

According to the Washington Post, the increasing of this limit is in response to the growing numbers of Syrians fleeing their civil war and most of the incoming refugees will be Syrian, though there continues to be an influx of African refugees as well.

Some Americans are concerned that terrorist groups will use this opportunity to infiltrate the States. However, it’s become abundantly clear that the Syrian civil war has created circumstances so dire that the US can no longer stand idly by. Some officials are even urging the Obama administration to allow entry to the US to 100,000 Syrians this year. Former State Department legal adviser Harold Koh explains: “humanitarian aid has fallen short in the face of unspeakable suffering.”

“This step is in keeping with America’s best tradition as a land of second chances and a beacon of hope,” Kerry said. He has also reported that Syrians have lost hope in conditions in their home country improving, hence why we must welcome them to ours.

Why teenage inventor Ahmed Mohamed was arrested after bringing a home-built clock to school

An incident that happened at a Texas high school a few weeks ago has struck a nerve

across the country, and it has even prompted President Obama to speak his mind on

Twitter and recognize Ahmed Mohamed as an inventor that helps “make America great”.

FaceBook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and presidential hopeful Hilary Clinton also showed

their support for Ahmed on social media.

The 9th grader recently started attending MacArthur High School this fall,

and has a big interest in creating devices from radios to blue tooth speakers. One

Sunday night, Ahmed decided to put together a small clock to present to his

engineering teacher. Ahmed’s teacher told him it was nice, but advised him not to

show any other teacher. By the end of the day, there were three complaints sent to

the main office by teachers about the clock.

Ahmed’s English teacher confiscated the home-built clock after hearing a

series of beeping throughout class, and told Ahmed that it looked like a bomb. He

told his teacher it was just a clock, but later that day Ahmed was questioned by

police and arrested at school. Ahmed told MSNBC in an interview “I felt like all the

names I was called”. The idea that ‘Islamphobia’ motivated the arrest triggered the online

world to speak out and stand by Ahmed, in hopes to help end racial profiling against

Muslims. Irving Police Chief Larry Boyd made a statement that relieved Ahmed of any and

all charges of wrongdoing, and stated that there was no evidence that the student had any

poor intentions.

Muslim Teen is Arrested for Bringing Homemade Clock to School

Ahmed Mohammed, a teen from Irving, Texas was sent to jail early last week, after his English teacher thought what he had brought to school was a hoax bomb. Mohammed had came to school eager to impress his teachers with this homemade clock, but instead was punished and left school in handcuffs.

When news got out about this incident, that fact that Mohammed is Muslim, was the reason people believed he was stereotyped into being a terrorist that would create a bomb. Mohammed, however stated numerous times to police and his teachers that, his creation was in fact, just a clock, but they refused to acknowledge. After clearly stating that it was a clock, one officer asked ” So you tried to make a bomb?” The police wouldn’t even let the teen phone call his father to tell him what happened, and the school didn’t notify the father of the incident, until after he had already been arrested.

All over social media , celebrities and even the President of the United States himself, acknowledged Ahmed and showed support. Obama’s tweet to Mohamed read “Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.”

Recently, Microsoft, sent the teen many new gadgets,  in showing him support as well.

Opinion: This seems to be another case of stereotyping others based on their race or religion. The fact that the school, didn’t even call the father first before sending his son off to jail, or the police officers basically expecting the creation to be a bomb, even before speaking with the teen and arresting him before testing the item , shows unfairness to the teen and represents what could be happening all around this country. When people have presumptions of other people, which lead them to build a negative view of them. Yes, we as people can have our insights and gut feelings about people, but we need to make sure our assumptions aren’t based on what a persons made by labeled as, or by generalizing them with. If we want to make educated assumptions on people, they should be analyzed individually, by their repeated behaviors otherwise known as their character.

Republican Candidate Ben Carson says a Muslim shouldn’t be president; why that’s not alright.

As most of us know, our country has made great strides on social issues. Since our founding, we’ve finally come to accept all races, all genders, all sexualities, and all religions.

Yet, in 2015 we have a man running to be the leader of our nation who is not as accepting. In an interview Sunday with “Meet the Press”, Republican Candidate Dr. Ben Carson said “I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that.” Carson claims that a Muslim serving as the President is not consistent with the constitution of the United States, which is ironic since this nation was founded on religious freedom.

Our country has never had an issue with religion and government. Since the government was created, there has always been a separation of Church and State, meaning that the government cannot impose religious values onto its constituents.

Therefore, I don’t know what the issue is with Dr. Carson. If a Muslim is voted in as president by the American people, they obviously trust him or her enough to make the best decisions for our nation, not his or her religion.

I would not advocate that we put such a closed minded person in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that.

Movie Review: ‘Black Mass’ Succeeds Thanks to Depp’s Stellar Performance.

The highly anticipated gangster film Black Mass has been touted as a return to form for lead actor Johnny Depp and his performance did not disappoint. Unfortunately, most of the cast can’t match the heights of Depp’s rebound, and their struggles become that much more apparent as Depp acts circles around them. Based on a true story, the film follows James “Whitey” Bulger, an Irish mobster who becomes an informant for the FBI. He uses the relationship to bring down rival gangs, and become the kingpin of South Boston. The film puts equal focus on FBI agent John Connely, played by Joel Edgerton. As a childhood friend to Whitey, Connelly initiates the unholy union between the Federal Bureau and the career criminal. Edgerton does a great job playing the “whatever it takes” federal agent who sometimes seems more loyal to Whitey his own bureau.

The obvious criticism that will be thrown at this film is how predictable it is, the typical rise and fall of a gangster. However, while the ending can be seen from a mile away, the execution is superb and the “predictability” doesn’t take away from the quality of storytelling. What does adversely affect the film is the lackluster performances put it by the rest of the supporting cast. Benedict Cumberbatch does a laughable attempt at playing Billy Bulger, Whitey’s older brother. Cumberbatch is so obviously miscast it feels as though he got the part on name alone, and didn’t even show up for an audition. He’s not alone, Adam Scott looks like he got lost on the studio lot and just wondered onto the Black Mass set.

Overall, Black Mass is an enjoyable gangster flick that benefits from great storytelling and fantastic performances by its two leads. However, Black Mass never truly reaches greatness because of its predictability and mediocre performances by the film’s supporting cast.

Highest risk for Amazon is the steadiness and risk their taking by keeping same rate.

Amazon, Roku, Google, Apple have their own online services for consumers so they can watch different apps/digital content from different companies like youtube, netflix, hulu, NBC, HBO Go etc.  No matter what they name it- Fire stick,  Chromecast, Apple TV or Roku; They’re competing for stream domination. As consumers continue to cut cable from their every day life, companies are finding different methods to reach them.

Keeping the price the same for their product can be dangerous because people’s perception of Firestick can be assumed as  lesser quality. Although I’ve used Amazon product once, it was an overall positive experience.  Combining and convenience of other amazon products/services (like the kindle) will provide amazon a better reach for consumers. Now that’s only if the firestick is successful.

Personally, I love Roku (competition) because I’m able to access multiple apps unlike other platform like firestick and Chromecast that doesn’t have certain apps due to legal purposes. (Like Netflix). Apple recently raised the prices for apple TV from $100 to $150 for the same services unlike Amazon kept their rate for $40. The additional feature I’m intrigued is the Amazon controller that combines gamer with every day usage.

Being able to access certain movies, TV shows, games and other Amazon/affiliates products is positive aspect, especially when Amazon bought Twitch. (gaming company). By consumers realizing cutting cable due to on-demand consumption, amazon continues to grow their library of products to give to their customers; especially, when the product of firestick is cheaper than Apple TV. No matter which direction/products/services Amazon provide in the future, consumers will always see Amazon as an option because of their reputation.
