The Masters: Bubba and Low Viewing Numbers

It was that time a year again where the flowers were starting to bloom and the freshly cut grass was ready to bear the weight of the Masters. The Masters, the first major championship of the year, is one of the most beautiful events but this year there was something a bit different. With Tiger Woods not competing, the aura was lost around this event and television viewing was down significantly from years in the past. The game of golf is looking for the next big thing and no one seems to be stepping up as that go to athlete that resembles a superstar. Bubba Watson might be the closest thing we have to look forward to as he won his 2nd green jacket.

The green jacket was presented to the elaborate, pink driver swinging lefty once again after a stellar final round that displayed his heart and mental stability on the course. Watson was paired in the final group against an up and coming 20 year old that held a three shot lead over Watson in the early stages of the round. Jordan Speith (20) crumbled after the turn and fans didn’t see this coming. Playing so well all weekend it was hard to watch the 20 year old loose control of his game and eventually hand the title to the deserving Bubba Watson. The PGA is looking forward to a great season and fans are waiting for the next big thing to emerge out of the darkness and bring excitement back to the game we all love.
