Carlos Pinto Jimenez, a recent UCF graduate, has joined Electronic Arts (EA) in Redwood City, California as an Associate Game Designer.
Pinto Jimenez earned his degree in Digital Media, Game Design track, at NSCM where he immersed himself in both the creative and technical sides of game development. His path to EA began through an earlier internship in game design with the company. “After I completed the internship, I told them about my interest in returning full time and applied again,” he says.
That persistence paid off. Reflecting on his time at NSCM, Pinto Jimenez credits the program with giving him a solid foundation in both the theory and practice of game design.
“Through courses that emphasized hands-on and project-based learning, I developed skills in gameplay mechanic design, system balancing, and working within cross-disciplinary teams; skills that are directly applicable to my work in the industry,” says Pinto Jimenez.
He shared that one of the standout experiences during his time at UCF was participating in Game Jams hosted by the Game Development Knights club. “Those fast-paced, creative challenges closely mimic the kind of rapid iteration and collaboration needed in the industry,” Pinto Jimenez noted.
Beyond technical training, Pinto Jimenez also benefited from the strong mentorship culture within NSCM. “Supportive faculty and alumni were instrumental in helping me remain focused on my career goals. Their encouragement pushed me to pursue internships and build a professional portfolio,” he says.
Now, as he begins this exciting new chapter at EA, Pinto Jimenez hopes to make an impact by contributing to games that push creative boundaries and engage with players in new and unique ways.
