Dr. Christine Hanlon, Senior Lecturer, has been awarded the opportunity to participate in an Overseas Faculty Development Seminar with the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.
This highly competitive award provides participants with the opportunity to join a fully funded overseas seminar aimed at helping faculty and administrators from U.S. community colleges and minority-serving institutions gain international experience. The goal is to develop and enhance international courses, curricula, and teaching materials at their home institutions. The program is sponsored by the Educational and Cultural Affairs Bureau of the U.S. Department of State.
Dr. Hanlon is very excited about this opportunity and shares her thoughts about this experience with us: “Although I have traveled extensively (~30 countries), this will be my first time in Asia. I have taught about Indian culture in my courses for the past few decades; however, this will be my first experience traveling to India. We will primarily travel in the northern region of India, with tours of major cultural sites and visits to universities for collaboration and networking. This semester I am learning more about Indian culture so I can prepare for the experience. I expect the professional development experience will directly improve my Intercultural Communication course and Principles of Advertising course during the Spring 2025 semester. Every time I experience a new culture, I take opportunities to enhance my courses so I can provide students with more authentic learning experiences. I am looking forward to the CAORC professional development experience…and to the improvements that I will add to my Spring 2025 courses.”
