NSCM graduate Emily Watrobsky had the exciting opportunity to be an intern and assist in the casting department on the Emmy award winning, network reality show Shark Tank. Watrobsky majored in radio television on the media operations track with a minor in film.

Advisory board member and NSCM Hall of Famer Clay Newbill created the Clay Newbill Internship Program, where students can gain practical skills with leading industry professionals and work on Shark Tank.

In an interview, Watrobsky talks about her experience as an intern at Shark Tank, what interested her in the opportunity, and the greatest lesson she learned.

What year are you and what is your major?

“I am now graduated and my major was radio television on the media operations track with a minor in film.”

How did you hear about the internship opportunity? And why was this interesting to you?

“I first learned of the Shark Tank internship when I was accepted into my major at Nicholson. I attended an orientation that discussed my major and opportunities within the school.

What interested me in this internship was the chance to apply the skills I have learned through clubs and classes to a real-life production. The fact that it was in Hollywood was a bonus and the potential to meet Mark Cuban😉”

How would you describe this internship experience to others?

“An essential and rewarding experience that allowed me to grow professionally and personally. I can confidently say the work was exciting, fun and everyday was different from the previous day.”

What is the greatest lesson you learned during your internship?

“I learned that in Casting, attention to detail is more important than I had imagined, I was constantly double checking my work.”

Would you recommend this internship to other students? Why or why not?

“I one hundred percent recommend this internship, I had an awesome time and picked up so many new skills. Clay Newbill and Mindy Zemrak created a really great work environment, and I’m super grateful for everything I learned. It’s been a blast, and I know I’ll use these skills in the future.”

Watrobsky also wanted to add that “Mark Cuban called me slay.”
