Biography
Wayne Weinberg is an award-winning broadcast journalist whose many years in the media positioned him well for his subsequent career as a Central Florida community leader in the non-profit, academic, community engagement and governmental fields. His proudest accomplishment as it relates to UCF is his role, as Director of Development for UCF’s College of Engineering and Computer Science, in helping to securing naming rights to the Engineering Three building which became the L3 Harris Engineering Center.
After graduating from Illinois State, Weinberg began his radio broadcasting career landing at stations in Milwaukee, Memphis and finally at WDBO Radio in Orlando, where he received the Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Radio News Operation in North America.
Weinberg’s civic and community service is fostered by his strong interest in promoting leadership, enriching residents, and supporting educational organizations. He served as president of the Seminole County (FL) Chamber and Leadership Seminole and he co-founded the Seminole Vision, a public-private collaborative that convenes leaders to identify and engage in efforts to champion a better quality of life.
In 2024, Weinberg’s career as a broadcast journalist and civic involvement brought him the distinguished honor of being inducted into his high school Hall of Fame, receiving that recognition from Thornton Township High School outside Chicago.
Weinberg is the co-founder of the Seminole County Youth Commission, a non-profit created to act on the behalf of the diverse issues, concerns and needs of youth in Seminole County.
He also co-founded the Florida FIRST Robotics Education Foundation (non-profit) and chaired the Orlando Regional’s Executive Advisory Board (EAB) which provides strategic advice for the Robotics Regional. The EAB includes engineering deans (including UCF) and key leaders from the high-tech industry such as NASA and the National Center for Simulation.
Weinberg is a mentor for “Take Stock in Children.” The program offers deserving, low-income high school students from Seminole County Public Schools a chance to escape the cycle of poverty through education.
Weinberg actively works as a freelance voice talent and emcee for various companies, events and non-profit organizations.
