Air vs Air. What is better?

Can you substitute the new Apple iPad Air for a Apple MacBook Air? That is a big question now that Apple offers two types of “Air” products. Apple first introduced the MacBook Air a couple years ago. Its main feature was it had the same power as a MacBook Pro but was slimmer and was half the weight. Apple released the iPad Air a week ago with the same thing in mind. The iPad air is a lot thinner than the previous version of the iPad and it also weighs less.

When it comes to performance the iPad Air and the MacBook Air are totally different when it comes to the operating system. The MacBook Air runs on Apples OSX operating system which is Apple’s computer operating system and the IPad Air runs on the iOS7 operating system which is Apple’s “Mobile” operating system which is found on the iPad and iPhone. The MacBook Air allows users to have the full capability of a computer where the iPad Air only give the users apps just like an iPhone. With all Apple OSX devices (MacBooks and iMacs) you can still download apps as well to use on your device. There is a huge price difference between the two. The 11-inch MacBook Air starts at $999 and the iPad Air starts at $499. Where the iPad does have the MacBook Air is that it is a lot more portable because it is smaller. You can simply slip it into your briefcase or purse and be on your way. Over all both devices are amazing. I own a MacBook Air and absolutely love it.

Dancing With the Stars continues to shock with eliminations

For 17 seasons, the reality show “Dancing With the Stars” has always gone for the shock factor. Each season usually sees a surprising elimination of a well-liked, talented celebrity, meant to keep audiences interested. The dancing couples are supposedly eliminated based on their scores from the judges and votes from their fans. However, there has always been controversy surrounding the elimination process.

Since there is almost always a startling elimination on the show, some people believe the shows producers do it on purpose, regardless of the dancing couples’ score and fan votes. This season, those doubters seem to be right on track: the past four couples to be eliminated have been excellent dancers and performers, and seem to be well-liked by the fans. Even more suspicious is that Bill Engvall is still a contestant, even though he has been consistently receiving the lowest scores.

This season, Christina Milian was the first strong contender who was surprisingly sent home. Snooki Polizzi and Brant Daugherty were eliminated in the weeks following. Tonight, Elizabeth Berkley was sent home, despite doing consistently well throughout the season and having the second highest score of the night tonight. The shock was apparent throughout the ballroom: you could clearly see one of the judges, Len Goodman, looking astonished and mouthing “What??” to his fellow judges.

I do believe there is a chance that the producers could be intervening, for the sake of keeping the show interesting and dramatic. However, continually sending home contestants who are truly talented and deserve to be there doesn’t necessarily make sense. Viewers will lose interest in the show if the final three contestants are all awful dancers.

Nothing but Good Vibes at EDC Orlando

After writing about the Electronic Daisy Carnival last week with never having experienced it, I wanted to do a follow up.  EDC took place this past weekend on Friday and Saturday, November 8th and 9th.  This became my second EDM (electronic dance music) event that I have attended.  However, it appears nothing will be able to top what I had the privilege of experiencing at the Electronic Daisy Carnival over the weekend.  It was the most amazing festival I have ever attended, full of good vibes, crazy good music, artfully creative light and laser shows, and wonderful people.  Never have I experienced a place where nearly everyone is there for the same reason: to create lasting memories through a once-in-a-lifetime experience via music.

In my last discussion, I mentioned how I was worried that people who were drinking and/or doing drugs would ruin my time, but I couldn’t have been anymore wrong.  Yeah, festival attendees were drinking and smoking, but I didn’t have a single issue with it.  Obviously having smoke blown in your face isn’t ideal, but it could’ve been much worse.

The festival was said to have around 50,000 attendees.  Just hearing that makes it seem entirely crazy, but it somehow made it all the better.  EDC featured 3 stages: Neon Gardens (electro/techno music), Circuit Grounds (dubstep/EDM), & my personal favorite, Kinetic Field (dubstep/EDM).  Kinetic Field had the most amazing light and laser show I have ever experienced.  I was completely awestruck, managing to make my way all the way to the front row, and I’m already counting down the days until I get to experience it all over again.  Let the good vibes roll.

Eminem’s New Album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 Review

Eminem new album is not a sequel from his previous The Marshall Mathers Album which came out in 2000.The 41 year old rapper has done his best in 15 years at the center of the maelstrom that is pop culture.

In contrast to Eminem’s, 2010 album Recovery in which it talked about his struggle with drugs and depression and reclaimed his dominance back in the music industry, The Marshall Mathers Part 2 album is a return to a more confident Marshall Mathers that we are used to hearing.  The Marshall Mathers Part 2 has the great humor, anger, fear, self- reflection and verbal virtuosity that we have been accustomed to hearing from Eminem. In Eminem memorable songs from his new album he reveals what he has learned from his past whether through a metaphor or open letter. One of Eminem most meaningful songs on the Marshall Mathers Part 2 is Bad Guys in which he revisits his protagonist Stan who is plotting revenge on the rapper.

The songs Bad Guys lyrics says “ I’m the nightmare you fell asleep in and woke up still in/ I’m your karma closing in with each stroke of a pen/Perfect time to have some remorse to show for your sin/ No, it’s hopeless, I’m in denial that you’re hopelessly in”.

To the end of the Marshall Mathers Part 2 album, Eminem pens another apology song to his mother Debbie who he had so much anger over his music career. This album might be one of Eminem best works to date because it brings back the old Eminem that we are used to hearing.

The Dress That Helped a Young Actress Make the Headlines

This past weekend, Selena Gomez made the headlines in entertainment news on the web. Why? Because of a dress. Last Thursday, Selena Gomez celebrated her Flaunt magazine cover at Hakkasan Beverly Hills and her dress was the talk of the town. The black number, a revealing cut out by Cushnie et Ochs, is probably the most grown up piece she has worn yet. This being said, how does a dress stir up so much commotion? It is because the dress was on a Disney star.

Female Disney stars probably have it the hardest as far as their careers and image is concerned. They begin their careers on Disney channel where they become the role model for millions of kids. Because of this, it’s like people don’t expect them to ever grow up. And when they do begin to act like the young adults that they are becoming, it makes headlines. There are so many examples of this: Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens, Demi Lovato, Christina Aguilera, and Brittany Spears. All of the stars came to fame through Disney. Once they left Disney, it’s like they were expected to stay teens and not move on to more mature things in their lives.  It is sad to think that their lives is under so much scrutiny and they are so easily judged when all they’re doing is growing up. I feel that if people really sat down and looked at their own lives and the things they’ve gone through, they’d become a bit more understanding of the things they these young women have to go through. The only difference being, that they are in the public eye.

Blockbuster has Officially Closed All of its Stores

In the years before Netflix, Redbox, iTunes, Hulu, and Amazon Instant, finding and viewing movies and television shows was an event, something that people planned their day or even weekend around. For years, the most convenient way, and for many people the only way, to find and watch a film was to head down to the local Blockbuster and rent the film for a period of time. An entire system was set up to establish rental times and late fees for movies not returned on time. If you knew that you wanted to watch a film, you drove down to Blockbuster, rented the film, maybe picked up some snacks, and drove the movie or movies home. You had to keep track of the film, and make sure that you returned it to the store before the rental time was up. It was an entirely different form of media access than people are used to today.

With services today such as Netflix, consumers can find hundreds of films instantly to watch without leaving their homes or paying any late fees. Blockbuster struggled to stay relevant the last few years, but it was clear that driving to a store for a physical copy of a handful of films was outdated, and people have already adapted to a culture of immediate and almost complete access of media. Blockbuster recently closed its last three hundred stores, thus ending an era of physical media. For years Blockbuster sat at the top of film and television for the masses, but today its doors are closed.

The Monday Night Match-up between the Two Florida Teams: Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Bucs

The Monday Night Football game this week is the Miami Dolphins at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This game is important for the Dolphins to stay relevant in the race for the AFC East standings. They are currently 4-4 and with a win they will be tied for second in the division with the Jets. Any win at this point for the 0-8 Buccaneers would be good moral victory since they’re now the only team left without a win this season. The Bucs seem to be a good team that are losing all their close games. Both teams have been in the news for different reasons in recent weeks. The Buccaneers have mainly been in the news for their poor on-field performance and the possible on firing of the head coach. The Dolphins have been in the news the past couple weeks because of the bullying scandal between two of the offensive linemen on the team.

The news on the Buccaneers is nothing out of the ordinary because most coaches with an 0-8 record are being considered to be released. Not only is there talk about being fired, there are players saying they don’t want to play for him at all. It’s hard to stay popular in such a losing program that has the talent to do well.

The Miami Dolphins problem is much more serious because it not only effects the Dolphins, it effects the entire NFL. Richie Incognito is being accused of bullying and harassing a fellow teammate, Johnathan Martin. There has been proof that harassment has been non-stop and bothered Martin enough to miss two practices and eventually leave the team. NFL players have come out to support Martin and promote anti-bullying to create a better atmosphere for all players. Incognito has also been released and the Dolphins cut all ties with him.

Tinker Field Hosts Electric Daisy Carnival

If you’re going to the Electric Daisy Carnival, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair!
Thousands of ravers flocked to Tinker Field on Friday for opening day of Electric Daisy Carnival 2013, a marathon of electronic dance music, stretching over two days. How does it work? Fans must be at least 18 years old to enter and must have previously purchased either a one-day or two-day pass.

On Friday, the forms of expression among the mostly college-aged crowd included dozens of ravers covered in colorful plastic beads and flowers, particularly daisy’s (hence the event name). Many even make their outfits themselves with the more outrageous the better.

The soundtrack for the love fest was nonstop dance beats provided by internationally known DJs and producers on three enormous shell-shaped stages. Each was equipped with strobes and lasers that offered an impressive show of special effects. After dark, the grounds were illuminated by hanging lanterns and star-like glowing lights in the trees. On the baseball infield dancers kicked up a smog of the dry clay. Others stretched out in the grass or waited in line for the carnival rides. There truly was a place for everyone.

This event has sparked controversy elsewhere for arrests and drug-related deaths in its past, but the crowd on Friday was all about positive energy. Luckily there were no tragic events at the festival this weekend and party-goers can start counting down until next year.

Practical and Inexpensive Robotic Arm Developed

Since the release of Iron Man, the idea of a robotic exo-skeleton has been more and more popular.  There are actually several exo-skeletons being developed by different research and engineering groups to fulfill various purposes.  Lockheed Martin has developed a suit for soldiers to wear on their chests and legs that makes traversing rough terrain while carrying heavy gear easier.  A university group of researchers has developed another leg-based suit intended for use by people who have lost the use of their legs.  However, both of these suits are highly expensive and neither is ready for the market yet.  But there is one similar product that is cheap, simple to manufacture, and almost ready for use by the general public.  It’s called the Titan Arm and it increases the lifting capacity of the user by forty pounds.

Though this kind of technology has a lot of potential after more development, right now this product’s primary purpose is to aid patients who are going through physical therapy.  In the future it is intended to be controlled by brain waves or muscle sensors, but the device is currently operated using a joystick.  The device has an eighteen-pound backpack which contains the gears and motor, and a plastic jointed sleeve where the user puts his or her arm.  The force is applied at the elbow and a ratchet lock can lock the arm into place at a specific angle.  It currently costs $1,500, and that is one of the most striking aspects of it.  I think that we will see an increase in devices like this in the future, possibly to lift heavy loads and even in combat.

The Stage was Lit Up at this Year’s EMA’s

Yesterday, Sunday November 10th, was the 2013 MTV European Music Awards, held in Amsterdam, Netherlands. All of the celebrities went with the “out of this world” theme, trying to surprise the crowd and entertain their peers. This was the EMA’s 20th anniversary and everyone wanted to impress. As always, Miley Cyrus was grabbing all the attention she could.

The singer won the award for best music video for her song “Wrecking Ball”. She was wearing a little white leotard and a furry, white boa around her neck. As Cyrus was accepting her award, she tried to fit her EMA in her Chanel clutch. When it didn’t, she pulled out what seemed to be a joint and smoked marijuana on stage. The actual puff was not shown on MTV, but there were many videos and pictures taken.

It was expected for Miley to be just as wild as she was during her infamous VMA performance when she went on for “We Can’t Stop” at the EMA’s. She went in a little bit of a different direction, with black alien figures and a little person dressed in a latex suit as she wore a tight silver dress. As always, there was “twerking” during the performance, but not during her second set when she sang “Wrecking Ball”.

Katy Perry performed her song “Unconditionally” in a shining, silver body suit and was suspended in mid-air. She won the award for best female artist and seemed to have a great night. I always applaud celebrities like Katy Perry, that can have an outstanding performance, without having to be half naked or pull a stupid stunt.
