Has Apple Finally Fixed Final Cut Pro X?

When Apple announced a new version of their editing software Final Cut Pro, many people  (me included), were very excited. Those of us that were still using version 7 were envious of Adobe’s Premiere getting new features all the time. But here we were stuck with a version that was multiple years old and definitely showing its age. So when the new version was finally released, we jumped on it as fast as possible. I remember downloading it the day it was released on the Mac App Store which was a new experience in and of itself. We used to have to spend hours loading CD’s, now it was a single download and install.

But unfortunately for most of us, what we were greeted with was not what we expected. Bugs, missing basic features, constant crashing, it was awful to say the least. And people were vocal about their disappointment, to the point where Apple commented on it. They said they heard us and that fixes and new features would be released over time. But for me it was too little to late and I didn’t use FCP-X again for an entire year. I went back to FCP-7 and toyed with Premiere a little bit, but I didn’t even want to look at FCP-X.

But true to their word, Apple worked on it. Some small changes, and many big changes were made. When I finally went and tried it again, it was a totally different beast. It was fast, unbelievable fast, faster than anything I’ve ever used, and I’ve just just about all of them. They fixed all the annoying things with the file system and streamline everything. And what do I think about it now? Well, I haven’t touched FCP-7 since, I have switched to X and I’m never looking back.

Cupcake shop in Orlando opened by contestant on Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars”!

Hollis Wilder was a contestant on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars and has opened 2 shops: One in Orlando and the other in Jacksonville. This “sweet”- pun intended, shop is called:

Sweet! by Good Golly Miss Holly and it’s located in the Waterford Lakes Plaza.

I heard of this place because on Monday’s, I always hear these girls in my class saying they’re $1.00 mini cupcakes. I had asked one of the girls and she informed me that on Monday’s, they have a special called Mini Monday’s, where they give away mini cupcakes for just $1.00! I went (not on a Monday) but on a Saturday and was super excited to check this place out!

When you walk in, it kind of has a Johnny Rockets vibe, with red booths you can sit at. They have huge cupcakes and mini ones too. Not only do they have cupcakes but they also have frozen yogurt (Menchie’s set up). It’s super cute!!

Some of their cupcakes include: Banana (my fave!), Boston Creme, Chocolate Mint, Chocolate Strawberry, Cookies n Cream, Nutella, Tiramasu, S’mores and so many more! TIP: (if you click the link, it explains all the cupcakes and how they’re made!!)

They even make vegan and gluten free options that include: Banana Pudding, Mudslide, Cookiedough, Red Velvet, Rocky Road, White Chocolate Mocha, and many more!!

To add to their amazingness they even make cake! They deliver and they always do specialty cupcakes, which means they can put a logo on it or anything you’d like for the cupcake to say! I found out about this one specialty cake that they call “Queenies” and it’s a 4 inch cake they create however you like it and it’s just for $35.

I was super excited that I found out about this place because every day they have new, original, unique, great tasting treats!!! Tip: Go in the morning because that’s when they have the best ones!!!

You should check it out next time you’re in the area!! There something there for everybody so no one is left out! You’ll come out leaving Sweet satisfied and wanting more (:

Enjoy!

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights Comes to a Finally

Everyone loves the holiday season. Who couldn’t love the twinkling lights, the festive colors, all the holiday cheer and spirit? What more magical way to celebrate the holiday season then to celebrate it at Disney World. The Osborne Lights have been holidays hit for the last 2 decades at Hollywood studios. This year they’re celebrating 20 years of illumination, but also making it it’s final display.

This stunning spectacle started modestly in Little Rock, Arkansas, as a single home’s annual display. Every year, Jennings Osborne and his family set up an elaborate collection of holiday lights. Over time, the collection of lights grew and grew… and GREW! The display eventually grew to include over 3 million lights in 1993, and Osborne had to buy two properties adjacent to his home to expand his light show. Disney acquired the rights to host the display in 1995 after neighbors sued Osborne, complaining of traffic congestion created by visitors driving to see the lights. The Osborne family accepted the offer and decided to share their magic with the world. Walt Disney World Resort happily offered to become the new home for this exceptional exhibition of holiday cheer.

It’s so sad to hear that the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be switched off for the last time. I suggest you go and see it this year before its gone forever. The lights’ final run at Disney will be on display from Nov. 6, 2015 through Jan. 3, 2016.

Osborne Lights, you will be missed!

Tamir Rice Killing Trial Moves to Grand Jury After 1 Year

It has been one year since 12-year-old Cleveland boy, Tamir Rice, was fatally shot by the police. Rice had been playing with a pellet gun when someone called 911. Based on the surveillance footage, the white officer appears to have shot the boy before ordering him to drop the weapon and raise his hands.

A year later, “a grand jury is hearing testimony to determine whether criminal charges should be filed against the rookie patrolman who shot Tamir and his training officer,” reads ABC News. “Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty has said he hasn’t reached any conclusions about charges” and the community is beginning to demand answers.

“There has been no reconciliation, and no accountability for his loss of life,” Tamir Rice’s cousin LaTonya Goldsby told ABC news. “He was a child. He wasn’t a thug. He wasn’t a gangbanger. He wasn’t any of those things that they tried to portray him to be.”

Criticism also surrounds Prosecutor McGinty for dragging out the trial and tastelessly releasing the footage of the killing.

One Cleveland representative stated that the decision is taking far too long, but she is glad that at least the case has moved to a grand jury.

A candlelight vigil was held today November 22, 2015 and the family of the boy held a private commemoration yesterday at the local recreation center. The anniversary inspired town hall meetings to continue the discussion of the case and its upcoming trial, as well as the general and pervasive problem of police brutality targeted at the black community.

The Golden State Warriors Take On Basketball History

The Golden State Warriors still have yet to slow. A 14-0 start and superstar Stephen Curry is on fire. This week the Warriors face history. One more win and they match the record for best ever start to an NBA season, two more wins and they claim the record as their own. Can they do it? It sure looks like they can.

The Warriors need to defeat the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers in order to capture history. They’ve beat much stronger teams, but that does not mean they should take either team lightly. Interim head coach Luke Walton has said the team is practicing as hard as ever and taking the next two games like playoff elimination games. Needless to say the Warriors really, really want this record.

After a stunning come from behind win against the Clippers, many believe this record is the Warriors to lose. Down 23 points at one time, the Warriors slowly and methodically chipped away at the Clippers lead and won the game. The Warriors are definitely fighting for this record like their lives are on the line.

The next two games are bound to be exciting. The Nuggets and the Lakers are sure to give it their all, after all… who doesn’t like to spoil another’s party? But the Nuggets and Lakers certainly need to bring everything they have to beat the Warriors and not miss a beat to even stand a chance. This week will certainly bring a lot of excitement to the NBA and definitely to fans of the Warriors.

Ben Carson, The man aside from politics

In light of his new found fame, some of us may forget or not even be aware of the Ben Carson, behind the politics. I myself was surprised when Ben Carson was announced as a former doctor and took it upon myself to do some research and find out his background. To my surprise Ben Carson, is not only a retired neurosurgeon but the first neurosurgeon ever, black or white to successfully perform the operation of separating conjoined twins.

Today, we speak of Ben Carson as the second place candidate for the 2016  Republican nomination for President of the United States. But before his role in politics, Carson already had a pretty interesting background.

After graduating from Yale University and The University of Michigan Medical School, Carson went on to complete his residency in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. A year later he was appointed at the Hospitals’s Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery where he specialized in traumatic brain injuries, brain and spinal cord tumors and the list goes on. While at John Hopkins, Carson revived  and reformed the practice of hemispherectomy, a  procedure in which part or all of one hemisphere of the brain is removed to control severe pediatric epilepsy.

In 1987 is when he performed the revolutionary surgery of separated conjoined twins. Although seven months after the surgery the twins were reported in an abnormal state, this surgery presented the blueprint for future similar operations. The operation was subsequently refined for years and Carson participated in four other procedures, including a separation of Zambian twins which ended “in a normal neurological outcome.”

Following these achievements Carson spoke in a conference that was seen worldwide, which eventually helped lead the way for his role as motivational speak and author of numerous books. In 2009, the biopic “In Gifted Hands,” premiered depicting the life of Ben Carson.

Dozens killed in Myanmar following landslide in mine

Roughly 100 people have died after a massive landslide in a jade mining area, while many more people remain missing.

The incident is being called one of the deadliest events in the country’s history.

Many of those killed have yet to be identified, but are believed to be primarily miners, according to Yahoo News.

The landslide happened near the war-torn Kachin state community of Hpakant. It crushed hundreds of shanty huts that housed an undetermined number of people.

The disaster was reportedly very brief, lasting only a couple of minutes overnight around 3:30 a.m. local time on Saturday.

Zaw Moe Htet lives in a village nearby the impacted location and told the AFP he knew immediately that the landslide was devastating.

“Even people living in villages further away could hear the cries of those who rushed to the scene,” he said.

Burmese media reported that homes at the base of the mine-waste dump were flattened.

Search crews spent the weekend coming through the area for any survivors. Video reportedly shows rescue crews hauling blanket covered bodies away from the scene as crowds of locals look on.

Many of the injured and killed are believed to be migrant workers, causing officials to have a tougher time making identifications.

The mining there is part of a major operation that yields jade. The translucent, green jewel sells for high prices in nearby China.

Some of the supposed miners impacted by the landslide are believed to be people looking for leftover jade scraps.

The death tolls has continued to rise as rescue crews find more bodies.

A New Service Called ‘The Breakup Shop’ Will End Your Relationship

If Tinder has ruined the dating culture, ‘The Breakup Shop’ may change the way people end bad relationships forever starting with a minimum fee of $10. The site launched on November 8th, and customers are using various services to help end their relationship.

It’s a flip to dating sites; instead of cashing in on starting relationships, this site makes money off of people who want to end them. Twitter users are already criticizing and questioning the morality of the creators whom came up with the idea to make money off of other’s heartbreak. It may seem a bit heartless to hire someone to end your relationship, but it adds to the long list of services available on the Internet that make the not so easy life tasks a bit easier.

From customized texts and phone calls, to gifts to help cop with the loss. You can spend over $80 on gifts using The Breakup Shop if you want to be kind to your ex lover. The gift box of goodies consists of items like Netflix gift cards, cookies, and even video games like Call of Duty.

If you want to be less giving, The Break Up Shop can also use the app Snap Chat to send a photo or video with a short message explaining that the relationship is over. Most relationships fail rather than succeed, so why not help those who have trouble walking away? If the site becomes successful The Breakup Shop may have some competitors in the near future.

George Lucas on ‘Star Wars’: “It’s a family soap opera”

In 2012, Walt Disney Studios spent $4 billion to purchase Lucasfilm and the rights to everything Star Wars, without question the largest multimedia franchise in the world. Since the release of Star Wars – now known as Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope – the franchise has earned over $22 billion in revenue from every conceivable type of merchandise, including films, television series, comic books, novels, and toys. However, the deal marks a landmark moment in the history of Star Wars – the departure of George Lucas.

Since the beginning, George Lucas has meticulously planned every aspect of the Star Wars universe alongside his circle of producers, directors, writers, and designers. However, his feelings towards his creation and its become have grown strained over the years, especially concerning his relationship with the millions and millions of ravenous fans around the world. During his meeting with the writing team for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, he has had similar issues.

“It’s a family soap opera,” Lucas says, “People don’t realize it’s actually a soap opera and it’s all about family problems – it’s not about spaceships. So they decided they didn’t want to use those stories; they decided they were going to do their own thing so I decided, ‘Fine.'”

Apparently there were creative differences between him and Disney’s creative team. Lucas has not been involved in the process and, according to him, has not been privy to any information regarding characters, story, or locations since early pre-production. The release of this film will dawn a new era in a franchise that may never die, an era of films not overseen by George Lucas. Is this good or bad for the future of a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away? Well, luckily, we have one precedent.

Turn the clocks back to 1980. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back is close to release. It is primed to become one of the most pivotal films in history, and also one of the greatest. George Lucas has state din the past that it is his most disliked Star Wars film, however; it is also the only Star Wars that he didn’t direct. Perhaps directing was never for George Lucas, but perhaps world-building is never for J.J. Abrams and Colin Trevorrow, the directors for the next two Star Wars films.

May the Force be with Disney and their massive investment.

Broadcast television or online media: the future of billion dollars companies

Broadcasting companies have been around since the explosion of television. NBC, ABC, CBS, and other broadcasting networks have been dominating the television industry for decades, especially when they became an all-on-one shop. As more people are aware with this type of industry, staying up to date with current technology, content, etc is key to keep viewers in your program. As online and mobile continue to have an impact on everyone every day life, these companies are becoming aware/concern how they’re able to stay current especially when the main revenue source for companies is advertising.

Few years ago, broadcasting companies decided to purchase an  online streaming (HULU) but more viewers continue to turn to different mediums, the companies continue to experiment with content and how to maximize the service without fully affecting their main cord. But  as younger viewers, so-called millennials form a growing class of cord-nevers, rejecting the cost of a monthly cable bill, they’ve turned instead to broadband, high-speed internet connections and a range of streaming video services to watch what they want, where they want, when they want.

As companies continue to keep their eye on how this phenomenal continues to evolve, especially as some researchers compare broadcast dilemma with home telephones. Most major companies such as,  Apple, Sony and The Dish Network are among those looking to offer their own streaming subscription services. The real question is who will prevalent and who will stumble.
