A Haunted House with a Woman’s Touch

In todays day and age we seem to be living in a period catered towards groups and demographics, people try to be sensitive to groups or demographics that they are not a part of. We live in a period where the original LGBT is now LGBTQXYZ… and add a couple more letters. I believe everyone, everybody and every type of being should be recognized, if need be. We should be more informed on them, if they wish for us to be and at the minimum be informed enough to know how not to insult or offend.

In the past, and currently the topic of women’s rights and lesbianism has been prevalent, and a group of women’s activists are speaking out in nontraditional way, one more tactile, one that entices your senses in hopes of conveying feminist issues…one that better suits the season. Toronto based artists Deirdre Logue and Allyson Mitchell created the ultimate haunted house centered on the ladies, called KillJoy’s Kastle: A Lesbian Feminist Haunted House. The house is their retort to the evangelical haunted houses that are themed around the sins of abortion, same sex relationships and fornication.

In the house not only are you accompanied by your own self-proclaimed women’s studies professor, but you may be accosted with a diva cup for of menstrual blood or frightened by the “ball-buster“ just to end up in the final stage of “lesbian processing” where a brief discussion about feminism and its history can be discussed. KillJoy’’s Kastle is the perfect haunted house…with a women’s touch.

NFL GAME STREAMING AT YAHOO. This game will be the stepping stone for sporting games going to streaming services

Buffalo Bills played against Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday that was streamed on Yahoo. This NFL game was the first game that was streamed online; most people see this opportunity as a stepping point for games to stream online week by week. Game started as 930am and like most people I woke up to experience this content virtually. At first the bandwidth and loading for the game to stream took few mins but as the streaming continued, the game’s clearness and service was outstanding.

NFL has become a global phenomenal that this multi-billion dollar company can take advantage of. The idea/overall experience of this game was surprisingly successful. There wasn’t at any point a buffing or slow service, which Yahoo did a great job at streaming. I do believe this game will be a stepping stone  for game to stream online but only if it’s convenient for the fans, advertisers and audience viewing these games.

According to NFL senior vice president in charge of media strategy said, “Our tagline is Watch With the World, which we really think captures what this experience is.” And “I think the leanings we get out of this experience will really shape some of those decisions we make going forward about who we partner with on game distribution, both in the near term, but then in the long term as well,”

Due to Online providers are able to determine an accurate stats regarding viewers, and duration of content, this will expand how NFL is able to reach their target audience and expansion of this wonderful game.

‘Star Wars’ ticket sales crash as Jedi fans overwhelm websites

Star Wars: one of the most iconic multimedia franchises, and perhaps even the greatest one of all time. Beginning with the original film – initially titled Star Wars and later changed to Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope – it has expanded to include television, literature, graphic novels, trading cards, miniature soldiers, costumes, and, of course, more movies, the most recent of which will soon be Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The final trailer was released on Monday, October 20th during the Monday Night Football halftime section and, at the end, announced that tickets were on sale.

And sell they did. Fans from across the globe swarmed onto websites such as Alamo Drafthouse, AMC Theaters, and Fandango to pre-order tickets and claim the earliest screenings possible. Jedi frenzy was alive and in bloom once again, perhaps for the first time in ten years since the release of Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, unless one counts the surprising success of the television series Star Wars: The Clones Wars that aired in-between. The number of ticket-buyers was too much to handle, however, and websites began slowing down dramatically and even crashing. Many users reported having difficulty finalizing their purchases, or even purchasing at all.

Imax CEO Greg Foster called the ticket sales ‘unprecedented’ and ‘record-shattering’, with locations selling out across the nation. There is still two months to go yet until the movie is officially released in theaters, which is plenty of time to improve on this monstrous record Disney and LucasFilm are encountering themselves in.

Disney in particular is having quite the year, with their other major release including Avengers: Age of Ultron. With Universal’s Jurassic World topping box office records this past summer, will The Force Awakens be up to the challenger? These early indicators such as ticket sales seem to predict so. The next two months will be a roller coaster as the destine date approaches.

Mexicans Recover from Hurricane Patricia, While No Deaths Are Reported It Will Take Years To Get Back To Normal

This past Friday wasn’t what many Mexicans expected as Hurricane Patricia ripped through their coast line, while there are no reported deaths her trail can still be seen. The most pressing concern for the residents of this seaside town is the crops that they lost to the storm. Roofs were ripped off houses and many had to seek refuge in shelters for the time being. Police has to hold back on lookers to make sure that everyone was staying safe during this natural disaster. Many people lost all that they had on Friday night and it will take years for them to be able to get back to the place there were in again. Many of the houses that were built in this area belong to poorer families so the construction of them wasn’t as sound and they were built from flimsy materials.

Weather stations named Patricia as one of the strongest storms to hit the Western Hemisphere, with that knowledge I think that it is remarkable that there are no deaths because of this storm. Wind gust from the storm reached over 200 miles per hour, when it was in Mexico. It was also reported that rainfall could reach up to 20 inches in some areas, raising the possibilities for mudslides and flash floods. This events would put millions in danger not to mention the tourist that went there for a getaway.

Could you imagine going away on vacation and being caught in the middle of a natural disaster like this one?

Back to the Future Movie Significant Date Sets Fans On a Revival

A day we thought would never come is finally here. Wednesday October 21, 2015.  The day where Marty McFly, played by Michel J. Fox visits the future in the unforgettable movie Back to the Future. Social media is being flooded with Back to the Future content by masses of fans and the hashtag #BackToTheFuture is trending worldwide. Many fans are having Back to the Future theme parties to pay homage to the iconic movie. The movie came out in 1989 and showed audiences an idea of how the American society would look like in the year 2015. Now that we are living in the year 2015, almost 30 years later, we can determine some of the predictions the movie got right and some of the predictions it got wrong.

Robert Lee Zemeckis, the director of the Back to the Future movie had a pretty good grasp of how the future was going to look like. For starters the movie shows a house that uses biometric identification technology for an individual to enter it, we use that same technology to unlock our IPhones and access its content. There is also a scene in the movie of a dog being walked by a drone; we also have that technology available in 2015. Wearable technology was used in the movie, now days we also have wearable technology such as Google Glass. Floating hoverborads played a huge role in the “future” of the Back to the Future movie; we can say that the director got that slightly correct. A floating hoverboard was introduced in 2014 by a company called Hendo and Tony Hawk was the first to ride it; however, the hoverboard only works on special copper plated surfaces and in the movie it worked on any type of surface.

However, there were many predictions the movie got wrong when it came to the American 2015 lifestyle. We do not have flying cars. When it came to fashion, the movie’s prediction was completely inaccurate displaying individuals wearing the most bizarre outfits; people wearing two ties and jackets that would self-adjust to your size. The movie also shows how folks used phone booths constantly; those are pretty extinct now days because everyone has cellphones. Regardless how many predictions the Back to the Future movie got right or wrong we can’t deny that it is a classic movie that has kept audiences entertained for years and in my opinion is one of the greatest movies ever made.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Crashes Fandango & the Box Office

“Unprecedented demand” was the phrase used to describe the moment tickets went on sale around the world for the latest addition to the Star Wars saga.  Tickets for Star Wars: The Force Awakens went on sale Monday, October 19th and online ticket retailers crashed almost immediately. Fandango reported volume on the site spiked to almost seven times previous peak levels, while other ticket retailers such as MovieTickets.com have stated that even the addition of 40 servers could not prevent their website from crashing. Despite the chaos ticket retailers almost unanimously agree this demand is great for the film and media industries. There’s still plenty of money left in Hollywood and movie theaters will see a huge boost in traffic.

Before Monday, the largest ever one day ticket pre-sale belonged to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the second installment in the Hunger Games trilogy. As you may have guessed Star Wars obliterated Catching Fire’s record by selling more than eight times the amount of tickets. In Australia ticket retailers confirmed that Star War’s 30,000 tickets sold in three hours was more than the Avenger’s 26,000 pre-sale total, of course another record shattered by Star Wars.

Analysts agree demand for Star Wars will continue and grow. Many predict Star Wars will go on to crush every opening and short term box office record, while the film may very well go on to bring in more than two billion dollars at the box office. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh Star Wars movie and one of the six films Disney plans to release in their new slate of Star Wars films.

Zendaya stands up for her beliefs, even when showing her true ‘unretouched’ cover photo from Modeliste Magazine

Zendaya once again makes us feel empowered. The 19-year-old Disney star has spoken out about her cover shoot for Modeliste Magazine’s November’s issue, furious with the fact that they had dramatically photoshopped her cover photo by making her thighs way smaller as well as her hips. The shoot was done at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico this past month but as soon as she got to see what the cover would look like, she took matters into her own hands to make sure they took down the picture and replace with the real one. She got her support from her family and friends and even the help from editor in chief of the magazine.

Here is Zendayas’s statement from today which she published in all her social media accounts:

“Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated. These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self-love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue.”

This is such strong and important message for all her followers and just about anyone in general. This young lady keeps making history with just some classy and powerful words that makes us rethink when we are stereotyping, editing or trying to change something, when in reality we should be embracing our flaws and making them our strongest features that’s differentiates us from everyone else.

The editor in chief of the magazine made a statement after the whole incident by saying the following:

“Upon review of the final edited images which had been submitted to us by an independent editing company, together, as a collaboration between myself, Zendaya and her parents, we concluded that the images had been retouched to an extent that was not acceptable and not true to the values and ideals we represent and promote in our publication”

Which me us realize that it wasn’t even the magazine’s idea to retouch the picture, the way they did, they actually sent to a editing company and got it back like that. But if they are specifically hiring someone to edit a photo, of course you have to expect to get what you ask for. The editor did a very good of taking a bad situation and turning it into a learning experience not just for them but also, for the audience to that even celebrities who look already amazing, get this feeling of not being good enough just by being photoshopped.

The Future is Now: October 21st is ‘Back to the Future’ Day

Screenshot of the date Marty McFly and Doc Brown arrive in the future.

It’s Wednesday, October 21st, 2015. The air is filled with flying cars, Jaws 19 has just been released at the Holomax, and at approximately 4:29pm Marty McFly arrives from 1985 in a Delorean. Yes, that’s right, the day has finally come! It’s Back to the Future Day.

For the past few years hoax images of an altered date have circulated the Internet. Seemingly every month or two it prompted fans to prematurely celebrate Marty’s coming. But now we have truly arrived in the future.

Just in case you weren’t alive in the ‘80s let me clear this up for you: We have reached the time period in which Back to the Future Part II purports to take place.

Four years after the first film, Back to the Future Part II hit the big screen in 1989. Picking up immediately where it last left off, Marty (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travel to 2015 in order to save Marty’s future family. Meanwhile, adversary Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson) steals the Delorean and gives a sports almanac to his 1955 self. From there timelines become muddled and the pair of heroes must find a way to put things right again.

Many promotional events are happening on October 21st to celebrate Back to the Future Day. Back to the Future Part II is being shown in select theaters. The trilogy has gotten a special re-release on DVD and Blu-Ray with new features. Pepsi will have a limited run of “Pepsi Perfect,” the same soft drink had by Marty in the ‘80s Café.

So grab your Mattel hoverboard, ride to your local theater, buy a refreshing Pepsi Perfect, and go back to the future. To quote Doc, “Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”

Car Service App Uber driver is found guilty in India Rape Case

Uber, a car service app, driver Shiv Kumar Yadav was accused for raping a woman who only requested for a ride home in December. The 26-years-old passenger stated that she had fallen asleep in the back of the vehicle and woke up with Yadav beside her in the back seat in a secluded location. The incident caused protests and authorities pulled Uber cars off the roads. About six weeks later, Uber operations resumed and made licensed requirements.

Tuesday October 20th, Indian court has convicted Yadav of charges including kidnapping, rape and endangering a woman related to the New Delhi crimes. (Delhi crimes are reports of ride hailing services associated with rape, dowry deaths, abductions and molestation in India.) Yadav has been charged with rape, carrying illegal firearms, disorderly behavior and molestation in the past.A sentence hearing will be conducted on Friday and this time Yadav faces life sentence in prison.

The victim filed a lawsuit against Uber yet withdrew due to Uber’s response to assure crimes such as rape could never happen again. Amit Jain, president of Uber India stated that “Safety is a priority for Uber and we’ve made many improvements”. Uber announced that it would institute background checks, installed a panic button as well as a tracking feature that allows up to five people to know trip details and real time locations.

Defunding of Louisiana Planned Parenthood Clinics Held Off For Further Investigation

The state of Louisiana has to wait a minimum of two more weeks before it is legally allowed to cut Medicaid funding from two in-state Planned Parenthood clinics, as it intended to do. The federal judge on the case is still seeking more information before the move can be legally justified. The ruling was made Sunday, October 18, 2015, by a Baton Rouge court.

Abortion opponents in Louisiana have been trying to push the stopping of the organization’s funding by circulating videos that allegedly show how Planned Parenthood has been profiting off of the under the table sale of fetal tissue. Planned Parenthood has denied doing this, and the allegations have yet to be proven true.

U.S. District Judge John deGravelles has said that “this is all about the videotapes. A number of states have conducted investigations into the tapes and have vindicated Planned Parenthood. Before pulling the trigger and shutting people down, you do an investigation, not shoot first and ask questions later.” deGravelles has refused to allow the above claim regarding Planned Parenthood and the selling of fetal tissues, explaining that he has found Planned Parenthood to provide credible evidence that they had not taken part in this deal.

The state of Louisiana does not allow taxpayer money to cover abortions, so as of now, Medicaid and Planned Parenthood only cover reproductive care for men and women. Furthermore, the state of Louisiana doesn’t allow any of its clinics to perform abortions. If the Planned Parenthood centers are defunded, the low-income families of Louisiana will no longer have access to affordable reproductive care.
