Title IX Employees Hired To Take Down Increasing Sexual Assault Complaints On Campus

Title IX employees are part of a newly formed but expanding bureaucracy that oversees how institutions are responding to sexual assault complaints in adherence to the federal law. Title IX was established in 1972 as the federal law that governs gender equity in education which was initially used in colleges to address sports and faculty hiring, but now sexual misconduct matters are most prevalent. A 2011 federal statement clarified the law’s inclusion of sexual misconduct on campus and federal rules require at least one, part-time Title IX coordinator hired for every institution. Many colleges in the country have taken action on meeting Title IX requirements and have spent millions of dollars on the hiring of Title IX employees such as lawyers, investigators, survivor advocates, and more, to handle the vast sexual assault complaints. Title IX coordinators can earn between $50,000 to $150,000 a year. The costs of expanding the department, as many have endured by hiring additional parties, can range from $25,000 a year at a smaller college to $500,000+ at a larger college.

Some say that this has become more of an issue now that it is being acknowledged as such, not that it shouldn’t have before. The division’s forerunning and aggressive development stems from the need to address the recent, significant growth of sexual misconduct on campus which has been deemed out of control. The prominence of the issue has ignited a federal investigation on over 200 colleges and universities, an increase of 145 institutions since 2014, for the way they handled prior sexual complaints. Among the bureaucracy’s most supportive members, women’s advocacy groups have set lower standards for what constitutes non-consensual sexual conduct and many schools have made efforts beyond the federal requirements to support the cause.

At the University of Central Florida, sexual misconduct is also taken very seriously and is not condoned on or off campus. UCF has adopted resources and reporting options for witnesses or victims of such behavior. For student-on-student sexual misconduct, the contacts are Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Dana Juntunen, and Lead Title IX Investigator, Sarah Laake, who can both be reached at 407-823-4683. For University-employee-on-student sexual misconduct, the contact is Title IX Coordinator, Dawn Welkie, who can be reached at 407-823-1354. 2.6 Terabytes of Political Corruption Data Unleashed in Leak

Over a year ago, an anonymous source contacted the German media outlet Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) to submit encrypted internal documents from Mossack Fonseca, a Panamanian law firm that sells anonymous offshore companies around the world. These shell firms allow their owners to cover up their business dealings, sales, and advice no matter how shady those details themselves may be.

Over the past few days, 2.6 terabytes worth of data on the customers of this firm have been leaked via over 100 journalists to the world at large. This data has detailed information on political figures, celebrities, athletes, banks, etc. and the shell companies they setup for certain shady purposes like hiding taxable profits, laundering cash on a mass scale, and covering for more….unscrupulous companies. The information contained in this leak is absolutely staggering, and the several hundred journalism sources have claimed they will be systematically releasing the information over the next few days. This is significant as it represents the single, largest information leak to journalists since the revelations brought forth via Edward Snowden, and much like the more sensitive information Snowden unveiled, this leak provides damning eivdence of legal wrongdoing by several prominent political figures the world over. Names like Vladimir Putin, Iceland’s Prime Minister, and even FIFA star Lionel Messi apparently have accounts tied to this shell firm.

Scarier still is the current radio silence on this growing story by many mainstream US based media countries. At the time of this story breaking, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and many other US outlets have yet to make any mention of this story whatsoever. If you however are interested in learning more, check out some of the info resources on Reddit and on the German and European news outlets bringing the story to light.

A Degree. Job Search. Career. The Real Steps after College.

By Shawn Presley

Like many senior college students the idea of a career is becoming all the more relevant as graduation looms closer and closer. However, there are no rules to the game of how to attract a career from potential employers. Don’t get me wrong the prospective jobs are attracted to me, in the sense they do contact me via email and phone calls, but to be honest most of the jobs are not worthy of a high school 12th grader.

Ill be honest, the fear of not finding a good career upon graduation is a constant black cloud that nags at my thoughts. In my defense, working full time while in school for full time has most definitely given me a solid work history that is most appealing to employers. As a word of advice to all college students, it works in your favor to look for careers of individuals already within your network (family, friends, mentors, instructors, etc.).

Without a doubt I believe I will find an adequate career that tailors to my work experience and degree. The only complaint is that there are no set paths on how to do things, there are a few resources, books, institutions, but no set path. To a new college grad that is terrifying, you are basically on your own.

Syrian city of Palmyra recaptured from ISIS after 10-month long seige

ISIS held a Syrian city for 10 months, Syrian forces say. Palmyra, considered to be a World Heritage Site by the United Nations, was found in a grim state on March 27th, once forces ran out ISIS fighters. Finally, forces were able to recapture the city of Palmyra, and they say they have uncovered a gruesome discovery.

Amongst the body count of 40 bodies, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported many were of women and children. The mass grave is believed to be the result of all those who died upon the terror group initially entering the city. Some bodies have led investigators to believe that some people, prior to their deaths experienced forms of torture or were killed by beheading.

Beyond the inhuman actions of ISIS, the group is responsible for the destruction of ancient ruins and the killing of the expert who cared for the ruins. Syria’s antiquities expert plans to rebuild all of the ruins that were damaged as a “message of anti-terror”. Experts believe that any artifacts damaged will be brought back to their historic value.

The region has been in a five year war against militant groups, included the terrorist organization, ISIS, in a five-year war. Russia has recently pulled out it’s troops from the region, and many have fled from the area. The most recent numbers report that 4.8 million Syrians have fled from the county in response to the violent groups terrorizing the area. Also, in response, 6.6 million people have been displaced, along with 250,000 killed with the presence in the area. Russia pulled out recently due to accomplishing its goal of reclaiming cities from groups like ISIS.

Betas, and how Developers take them for Granted

Recently, Bethesda Game Studios released open beta-testing for their game Fallout 4, originally released on November 10th 2015, for their introduction of a new “survival mode”, including such features as needing to eat, sleep, drink, and monitor various illnesses and diseases, or having to go see a doctor to get these ailments cured. Bethesda has a history of listening to their fans, whether that’s the introduction of an open-platform modding system delivered via the “Garden of Eden Creation Kit (GECK)”, or allowing the introduction of modifications to consoles instead of just the Personal computer. However, this is not about Bethesda’s willingness to listen to their fans – it is about the unwillingness of other developers and publishers to take the title of “Beta” seriously.

For example, DICE studios, developers of popular games such as Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefield, have continuously released “Betas” for their games. However, these betas often amount to nothing more than early-access to the game in question. No listening to feedback, no paying attention to problems – it often amounts to nothing more than simply stress-testing their internal servers to be sure that, on launch day, players can actually participate in online matches. While there is nothing wrong with this practice, the term Beta has been widely overused in the past few years of gaming. Instead of releasing a beta to find what is wrong with the game, Betas instead are reserved for those who pre-purchase the game – essentially making the “Beta” nothing more than a way to participate in the game early, and not offer constructive feedback. Instead of inviting players to actively critique and test the game for glitches or unsavory elements, it is simply used as a crutch to show publishers how many players are interested in the game, much like the ancient concept of pre-orders.

This practice is unacceptable to the gaming community. It is a blatant misuse of the term Beta, much like the term Alpha has been used to describe games on the Steam Greenlight service, despite those games being almost finished or about 90% away from actually being completed. Blatantly lying to consumers like this is what causes old practices, similar to pre-orders, to come back into play.

Opening up your game for players to, essentially, become your play-testers is okay, However, if these beta servers are only belong used to appeal to players who have already pre-ordered your game, then what is the point? Beta-testing should be reserved for those who are actively willing to participate in the bug-testing of your game, and not those who are already willing to buy your product regardless of the final outcome.

TESLA IS GOING TO RELEASE AN AFFORDABLE MODEL THAT WILL COST AROUND $35,000 OR LESS!

I know a few people do not know what a TESLA is but I a here to fill you in about this amazing car. A TESLA is a electric luxury car that is very eco-friendly and when it comes to looks it looks  nothing like a Prius more like a a futuristic car form the future. Seeing these cars on the road is very rare because you do not see them that often, you will see more Mercedes or Toyota’s than a TESLA. It is not because these cars are not popular they are just too expensive and not much people know about them. I am sure some of you have seen this car an wonder what kind of car is that and just gave up trying to figure out what kind of car it is. TESLA is an American car that is made in America, when I found that out I was very surprised and revealed. I was surprised because American cars are usually ugly or not that dependable or reliable.  I am revealed because America now has a chance to show to the world that they can make nice luxurious cars like Lexus, Mercedes,BMW and Jaguars.

Although these cars are very popular there sales have not shown that they have lost $850 Million dollars, so they have come up with a new strategy and that is to create a more affordable care that cost $35,000 or less. I personally think this is a good idea because the people who want a TESLA could have more of a chance to afford one. The more TESLA on the road mean free advertising and more people wanting to know or try to test drive the car. The battery life on these car can go 215 miles-240 miles depending on the model that you buy and it does not require you to put gas in it just charge it. The car is able to fit 5 and you can customize the car to your liking. Hopefully in 5-8 years I will have one too.

Where There’s A Will, There’s A Way. . . . . . . . Apple Finally Got Hacked

Apple is now urgently trying to figure out the flaw and weakness in their software so this doesn’t happen again.
Apple can only guest what the U.S. did to hack the phone because the F.B.I. can not disclose that information because its property of the company that helped them. Honestly Apple can’t be mad that the government finally hacked the phone. The U.S. government tried to reach out them and asked them for help in a shooting that happened in our own soil and Apple turned a blind eye to them. In return the U.S. government does what it does best find a way. Apple claimed that their product was almost key word almost impossible but the government found that special somebody and company to perform the task. This just goes to show you that in this current time where technology plays a big part in our lives that anything is possible as long as the tools are there. Let’s not forget folks the old saying “Where there’s a will there’s a way.”

Vanilla Shortages Will Effect Dessert and Perfume Prices

Vanilla prices are expected to increase significantly within the next few months due to a vanilla bean shortage. USA Today reported the news on March 29th and also added that the major vanilla-based products that will be affected include desserts such as ice-cream and cakes, and perfumes.

According to USA Today’s report, Madagascar, the world’s leading vanilla bean producers, had a poor harvest last year, leading to this year’s shortage. This reduced harvest alone has lead to a 150 percent increase in vanilla prices. Bloomberg News also reported that the increased price of vanilla is also due to the long, labor-intensive cultivation process that the product goes through. According to Bloomberg, the price increase is almost three times more expensive than the typical average price. Today’s vanilla price overseas (e.g. the United Kingdom) is roughly $250 a kilogram. Last year, it was $80 a kilogram. In the United States, vanilla bean prices went from $97 a gallon to $205 a gallon.

Vanilla’s cultivation process starts with pollination. The vanilla flower, which is related to the orchid flowering plant, is pollinated by hand. Each vanilla flower opens once for the season and has to be pollinated on that day or vanilla cannot be extracted from that flower. The vanilla is then cured in a drying and sweating process, which can take anywhere from three to six months.

Vanilla is the second most expensive flavoring in the world (saffron is the most expensive), but news outlets like USA Today predict it may exceed the price of saffron due to the shortage.

Could the City of Orlando Get Free WIFI?

I think it is safe to say that technology is growing more prevalent every year and that there is a constant demand for Internet access. With technology becoming more of a necessity than a luxury in our every day lives. It would be convenient and beneficial if wireless Internet (WI-FI) would be offered in the city of Orlando for free. Now you may say is this possible? And yes, yes it is. Orlando would not be the first city to do this. Cities such as San Francisco, Raleigh, Albany, and more have already installed and are currently running free Wi-Fi.

Orlando being one of the largest cities in Florida and also one of the biggest vacation destinations in the world it would make sense to expand electronically as well. Over half of Orlando’s population is students so it would only make sense to offer to accommodate the students. Offering Free Wi-Fi to the 3 major colleges (University of Central Florida, Full Sail, Valencia College) in Orlando would be a great thing for the student and city.

One of the first questions that arise is how is it going to be paid for? San Francisco did not have to dish out a dime for their WIFI; Google funded the entire operation for providing free Wi-Fi, roughly costing the googlers $608,000. Now I doubt Google will come save the day for Orlando like it did for San Francisco, but I am sure another fortune 500 companies would not mind cutting a check to get the advertising benefits that it would bring, by bringing free WI-FI to the city of Orlando.

Animal Testing: The Ugly Truth

Animal testing is a real issue that has been carelessly hurting animals for several years. These animals are locked inside cages longing for freedom, but their reality faces pain, torture, sadness and anguish. Nearly all the animals used for testing will die from the experiment’s outcome.

Just as humans, these animals can develop neurotic behaviors from their frustration, which will lead them to run around in circles, pull out their own fur and even bite themselves. According to PETA more than 100 million animals will die each year from animal testing.

Just a few examples of these cruelty tests include forcing dogs to consume pesticides, forcing mice to inhale toxic gases, applying toxic chemicals into rabbits’ eyes and the list goes on. The dilemma lays on the fact that just because a product harms animals, does not mean it will not be on the market for consumers to purchase. Also, just because a product tested safe for animals, does not mean it will also be safe for humans. We have a completely different system than animals do.

Today, many countries have already banned animal testing. However, there are many countries that still do it. There are other ways to test the safety of a product without hurting and killing animals. Some of these procedures include tests using human cells and tissues- in vitro method. There is also the advanced computer-modeling techniques- in silico model. These are the most popular ones and are also a lot less expensive and time consuming.

We can always do our part by spreading the word about animal testing and researching companies that are against this issue before buying anything. If we were the ones caged up and being tortured, we would not like it. So let’s be mindful and love our environment.
