People’s reaction of Miley Cyrus hosting the VMAS 2015 in social media

This past Sunday had many major moments in the entertainment world. There was a lot of build up for the actual Video Music Awards (VMAS), MTV broadcasted the awards show and they had advertised the show weeks and weeks in advance to promote it, one the big highlights of all the promos was that Miley Cyrus would be hosting the show this year. All through social media, everyone was having a field day, because if you are not aware of what happened at the 2013 VMAS, well Miley gave a very racy performance that gave a lot to talk about for some very long time, that to this day people judge her not very well just because of that show.

So when MTV announced that she would be hosting, people were ready to watch her make a fool of herself, since she has no filter, saying the first thing that comes to her mind, we were all ready to see all her craziness. As expected, she wore many not-so-surprising outfits that made all the social networks go crazy themselves. From wearing multiple colored pants, weird looking glasses, to almost no clothe at all, people were so stoked, because they knew she would come up with a way to outdo her crazy outfits of all time.

One of the most talked about moment of the night is the supposedly unexpected conversation Miley had with Nicki Minaj in the beginning of the show. Nicki came up to the stage to accept her award and at the end she said something like “now let’s go over to Miley, who they other day had a lot to say about me to the press, Miley what’s good?” We might not know the reason behind the feud, but fans to away from it is that so many people are posting in Miley’s social media account “Miley what’s good” mocking what happened at the event.

Social media definitely doesn’t let anything go under the rug, poor Miley is going to get reminded now every time of the incident that night.

Kanye West for President in 2020?

Sunday night if you opened any form of social media whether it be Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram you were bombarded with posts about the 2015 VMAs (Video Music Awards). The VMAs have not a host in two years, so this year Miley Cyrus decided she would step up and host.

The ex-child star kept changing into more and more outrageous outfits with every commercial break. There was even a Janet Jackson inspired outfit malfunction at the end of the evening. No one is quite sure why Cyrus decided it was acceptable to be behind a curtain naked with cameras and press all over but it caused quite the upset. I thought that there was zero chance that the night could get weirder, until pop sensation Justin Bieber started crying for no apparent reason after his performance ended.

One performance that had everyone talking was The Weeknd. Fire lit up the stage while he gave a soulful performance that Kanye West seemed to love. The camera kept panning from the stage and then back Kanye West as he wildly danced throughout the entire song.

Speaking of Kanye West, he won the Video Vanguard Award which Taylor Swift (West’s ex nemesis) graciously presented. Yeezus ended the award show with a very lengthly speech in which he announced he would be running for the Presidential Election in 2020. Not entirely sure if Kim Kardashian being in the White House is a smart idea.

So many other unusual things happened but these were just some that I felt were important to share. I’m going to call this a wrap and announce that this is probably the last time I watch MTV.

Tropical Storm Erika Dies, But Florida May Still Experience Severe Weather

In the past week or two Florida has kept a close eye on the projected path of Tropical Storm Erika as it had slowly developed into a category one hurricane. It has been just over 10 years since Florida has been hit by a hurricane with any degree of severity, but judging by their reactions to news of the storm they have not forgotten how to be prepared for it. Evidence of this could be seen by walking into any local food store and seeing people quickly grab things off the shelves like bottled water, canned food, and of course, peanut butter. Places like various south Florida school systems and the Port of Palm Beach say although the storm has broken up it made for a very good test run.

The storm broke up over the Caribbean, but as the storm weakened so did the Caribbean island of Dominica. Triggering floods and mudslides it killed at least 20 people, left 31 people missing, and destroyed hundreds of homes. The Dominca Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said, “The extent of the devastation is monumental”.

Haiti was also affected by the storm early Saturday. In Leogane, 4 people died and another 11 were hospitalized after a liquor truck crashed into a bus and exploded as a result of slick roads. Haitian authorities also evacuated 254 prisoners in Gonaives to other locations because of flooding. Two people were also killed in Port-au-Prince after their homes collapsed.

Although Erika is no longer a tropical storm or hurricane it still presents severe weather threats to Florida like flooding, tornados, and coastal flooding as a result of high tides. A flood watch is in effect in south Florida from 5am Sunday to 8am Monday.

Katrina Aftermath – 10 year Anniversary

Katrina was one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in history. This hurricane demolish the city of New Orleans with 174 mph winds. The people, the buildings, the environment felt extinct.

In 2005, no matter which class of society you’ve belong to the people weren’t fully prepared for what this hurricane would turn into; different  cities, Central Business District to Lake View and New Orleans East were covered in floods with a side of destruction.

Ten years later each district was able to “rebuilt” and bring new types of cultural people to this wonderful city.

Central Business District was known as a politician, wall street type of district;visiting that part of town was to take care of legal issues. after Hurricane Katrina, the environment of this business setting changed, new young, tech-savvy entrepreneurs migrated this area. By migrating, their laid back, star ups, “to cool to wear a suit” mindset became the new norm. According to the article, startups rise up to 64%.

Lake View is unique because of it’s location. You can get lost and end up in Lake View, its an area where you want to visit there. Before Katrina, this district was mostly of white older residents that retired or families that wanted to be away from the city. Now, this district rebuild to have families of different cultural backgrounds with a higher upper class.

Finally, New Orleans East was known as a higher wealthy class to mostly African Americans middle class. Although this district still has form of rough areas throughout the main reasons of families moving to NOE  for educational purposes. Young graduates moving from all over the world to educate, mold young minds to have a better future.

New Orleans have evolved after Hurricane Katrina; from business environment to establishing a well rounded middle class. some argue the magic of what made New Orleans special disappeared but others think the magic fused with different culture. No matter how different New Orleans changed, this wonderful city will always be known to be different and unique.

Ex-News Reporter Fatally Shot Ex-coworkers During Live News Broadcast

Early Wednesday morning, a normal morning news broadcast was caught in tragedy when a former News reporter Vester Lee Flanagan- who went by Bryce Williams on air- fatally shot two of his coworkers live on air.

24 year old news anchor Alison Parker, and 27 year old cameraman Adam Ward were fatally shot during a live news interview for WDBJ7 in Virginia Wednesday morning. The gunman who shot the two, was Vester Flanagan. A former coworker of both parties who was fired from WDBJ7 in February of 2013. It is known that in July of 2012, V. Flanagans’ bosses told him to seek Health Advocate, an employee assistance program because he did not get along with his coworkers and while at WDBJ7 he quickly became known for his difficult to work with reputation.

In March of 2014, Flanagan filed a lawsuit against WDBJ in which he said was racially and sexually discriminated. Flanagan’s’ case was investigated and found to have no merit. This was not the first time Flanagan filed a lawsuit against a news station for alleged racial discrimination either. In 2000 Flanagan filed a case against former employer WTWC-TV based out of Tallahassee, when in 1999 Flanagan was fired from this station due to poor performance and office misbehavior. This case was also dropped out of court in 2001 for terms that were unclear.

During the live broadcast where two were fatally killed, Flanagan can be seen and heard. Roughly two hours after the fatal shooting, ABC News received a 23 page manifesto from Bryce Williams. In the manifesto, Flanagan says that he was bullied at work for being black and gay. He also praised the Virginia Tech shooter, and the Columbine High School Shooters. He also said that this shooting was in response to the Charelston, South Carolina shooting earlier this year.

After the live shooting took place on air, Flanagan returned home where he tweeted “I filmed the shooting see Facebook.” On his Facebook account, there is the video he filmed of the shooting from his perspective. You can see Flanagan walk right up behind Ward and whisper “Bitch” and see his gun being raised.

State Police issued a statement saying they had apprehended Flanagan after he crashed his car on Interstate 66 in Virginia around 11:30 a.m. At eh age of 41, Flanagan died Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Donald Sterling’s racist comments stir up anger among NBA players.

Los Angeles Clippers owner, Donald Sterling, is facing some serious heat as consequence from his comments made in a private conversation with his former mistress after a recording of the conversation leaked on the web. TMZ published the tape last Friday night and the repugnant remarks have spread like wild fire among the press, Clipper fans, and throughout the NBA.

Miss V. Stiviano is in the eye of the hurricane after exposing the Clippers exec. On the tape, Sterling prohibits his girlfriend to bring any black people to his games and threatens her to absolutely not associate with them or post pictures on her Instagram in which she’s in company of her colored friends. Matt Kemp and Magic Johnson got dragged into the controversy after being mentioned on the tape because of their appearances on Stiviano’s Instagram account.

Clippers players reacted to the incident and protested at their Sunday game against the Golden State Warriors by throwing down their shooting shirts on the court and wearing their uniforms inside-out during warm-up. Lebron James also expressed his opinion by saying, “There is no room for Donald Sterling in our league”. Magic Johnson expressed his outrage after Sterling specifically mentioned him on the tapes and asked Stiviano not to bring him to the games. Also, president Obama commented on the incident by adding, “when ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance you don’t really have to do anything, you just let them talk.”

It has been reported that most of the major sponsors of the L.A. Clippers have been dropping their relations with the organization. Red Bull, CarMax, Kia, Virgin America, Sprint, StateFarm, and many other companies sponsoring the team have ceased their support effective immediately.

V. Stiviano was allegedly sued by the Sterling family for defamation, although Sterling’s lawyers have not yet confirmed or denied any allegations or made any comments on Donald’s behalf. The NBA has been investigating the case and they are currently in talks over the future of Sterling’s involvement with the Clippers. The league’s commissioner is yet to make a statement about any punishment that might come Sterling’s way. Regardless, this incident represents a black eye for the NBA and will take a long time for basketball fans to forget.

#myNYPD Meant to Help the NYPD’s Image Backfires

The New York Police Department recently released a Tweet on the popular social media site Twitter recently asking citizens of New York to post pictures of their interactions with New York City police officers.  The Tweet read; “Do you have a photo w/ a member of the NYPD? Tweet us and tag it #myNYPD it may be used on our Facebook.”  What seemed like a perfectly good way to get the NYPD more popular with the younger generation has backfired in an enormous way.

The tag #myNYPD was intended to be a way for people of New York City to show off good experiences that they had with the officers of the New York City Police Department, but it seems like people only have bad things to show.  The #myNYPD tag is now being used for people to show instances of police brutality and indecency throughout the city.  There have been many shocking pictures that have showed up showing New York City police officers abusing their power in many ways.  The images show officers doing a range of things from simple traffic infractions, like parking in front of a fire hydrant, to much more graphic and disturbing things like using excessive force and brutality.

The images show police officers beating people with batons, slamming them up against cars, and lunging at onlookers.  It seems that the #myNYPD tag is a perfect example of a great plan being poorly executed.  Don’t ask people to post their experiences with your police department if you are not confident that all of your officers conduct themselves in a professional way.  It seems that the NYPD has learned this lesson the hard way.

Nanotechnology may change the way people treat cancer

Whenever a person hears the word cancer, they usually assume that death is imminent. They know that they will have to endure many chemotherapy treatments, and those often have severe side effects that damage certain parts of the body. However, the University of Buffalo may have found a way to eliminate the cancer, without any damage to the body and other vital organs.

Jonathan Lovell, assistant professor of biomedical engineering and his team have developed their own concepts which they call nanoballoons. 1000 times smaller than a human hair, these balloons are comprised of chlorophyll and phospholipid, which is a fat similar to vegetable oil. Due to this combination, these balloons are capable of completely absorbing and capturing the anti-cancer drugs, and they also shield the drugs from other bodily systems. Once the drugs are trapped inside of the balloons, the drugs are then injected directly into the bloodstream and diffuse throughout the body. Once at their destination, the researchers “pop” the balloons with a red laser, which then releases the drugs. The balloons then close once the laser is not pointed on the balloons, allowing for the drugs to be released during the patient’s treatment.

To test this method, the team used mice that had tumors growing on the surface of their skin. Using the balloons and the laser, the mice were entirely cured of their tumors after only a few treatments. Also, since the drugs did not reach the rest of their system, the researchers were able to use only minimal amounts of drugs to cure the mice.

Following the experiment, Professor Lovell believes that this drug delivery technique could have a significant effect on the future of treating cancer patients. He comments that “I think the most immediate impact would be affecting people who are suffering from conditions where a tumor cannot be removed, but that tumor is causing extreme quality of life issues, such as bowel blockages and things like pancreas malfunction,” Lovell said. “…And eventually, if there are other tumors that are locally advanced, but haven’t spread to distant places, this may be a good treatment to treat a big tumor before it spreads.”

Only time will tell if this method becomes an effective way to treat cancer, and help patients live normal and happier lives.

Solar Panel Roadways Of The Near Future!

Julie and Scott Brusaw of Sandpoint, Idaho has been working on a solar power road. This road would be made of glass and will be just as strong as the asphalt that’s being used right now. Back in 2009 the U.S. department of transportation gave their project $100,000 to test out their idea. After some tweaks they have been able to add heat to the road and LED lights. The heat would be for melting the snow away to make the roads safe for driving. This alone would save in salt supplies and having to plow all the snow off the road. The LED’s are to mark the roadways. It’s better than paint since it would cover the panels and not allow the panel to collect energy. The lights can also pop up with “slow down” on the road to alert the driver of something in the road.

The couple’s next step is to crowd fund $1 million to take their testing to the next step. They plan on also using this technology on sidewalks and parking lots. This would help gas stations and local restaurants to save money on energy and they won’t have to hire help to shovel the snow off their property. If they get government founding to replace the roads with this technology it would take 5 billion 12ftx12ft solar panels, and this could lead to more jobs. The best part about the technology is quick repairs. All you need to do is take a panel section off and replace it with a new one. This would eliminate traffic delays and long repair delays. This technology will be something to look forward to and I hope the government approves to use it.
