UCF FILM MFA GRADUATE SARAH TICE RELEASES HER HARROWING PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER ‘DID I?’ ON VOD, DVD, AND BLU-RAY THROUGH GRAVITAS VENTURES
ORLANDO, FL (November 12th, 2024) – Independent film distributor Gravitas Ventures has released ‘DID I?’, a $10,000 UCF MFA Thesis Feature directed and shot by Sarah Tice (MFA, 2022). The raw, twisty thriller stars newcomer Alexandra Pica, Trinity Soos (You Were My First Boyfriend), Michael Vitovich (BET+’s Average Joe), Nicola Masciotra (After Midnight), and Raven Wynn.
Synopsis: Genevieve attempts to navigate her life with DID but begins to see flashbacks of memories she had no part in creating. Nervous of how dangerous she and her alter Stevie may be, she descends into hallucinations as she nears closer to the origin of her trauma in this Giallo-influenced horror/thriller.
Written and produced by Sarah Tice and Zachary Beckler (UCF Associate Lecturer in Film), with cinematography by Sarah Tice and editing, sound design, and VFX by Zachary Beckler.
The film was independently produced as Sarah’s feature-length thesis project in the Nicholson School of Communication and Media’s MFA in Feature Film Production program. Sarah’s expertise in cinematography, pre-production, and design allowed her to produce this film on a micro-budget.
“With ‘DID I?’ we set out to explore the psyche of individuals with dissociative identity disorder using the style and tropes of the horror and thriller genres that have historically used the disorder as a damaging scapegoat or twist explaining a character’s violent behavior. Through our research and personal interviews, we decided it was time to create a narrative that explored the honest raw horrors that lie beneath DID without exploiting or demonizing those who are diagnosed with the disorder. We set out to create ‘DID I?’ as a thrilling, honest, and empathetic portrayal of the experience that aims to shift blame away from victims and on to the originators of the trauma that created the disorder,” stated Sarah Tice.
‘DID I?’ is being released following a successful international festival run after its world premiere at the 2023 Florida Film Festival. It went on to win Best Feature Film awards at the 2024 Portland Horror Film Festival and Toronto International Spring of Horror and Fantasy Film Festival (TISH), Best Performance (Alex Pica) at the 2024 Knoxville Horror Film Festival, Best Student Film at the 2024 Atlanta Horror Film Festival, Best Florida Feature at the 2024 Freak Show Horror Film Festival, and took home the John Wiggins Independent Spirit Award at Australia’s 2023 A Night of Horror International Film Festival.
“Gravitas is proud to be bringing Sarah Tice’s taught thriller DID I? to audiences this fall. Alexandra Pica expertly captures the harrowing experience of dissociative identity disorder to screen through the character(s) of Genevieve and Steve and will give audiences throughout North America the opportunity a more empathetic view of the aftermath of personal trauma,” stated Bill Guentzler, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Operations at Gravitas Ventures.
Gravitas Ventures’ Acquisitions Manager Mark A. Silba negotiated the deal with Digital Horror Productions’ Zachary Beckler and Sarah Tice.
