Biography

Sukhada Gokhale has been a filmmaker and educator for over two decades with diverse experiences across three continents. She has made and taught filmmaking in America, France and India. Along with teaching, her short films have won international awards and have screened at festivals all over the world. Sukhada has also owned and operated her own video production company from 2013- 2016, wherein she was commissioned to create media content for educational institutions, music bands, non-profit organizations, local artists and small businesses. She has also held various cinema and art related workshops online and in person for a diverse age demographic in seven different cities. She has also been heavily involved in curating and organizing film festivals in North Carolina and Florida. Along with these activities, Sukhada has found the most meaning and satisfaction in her community centric work. Some examples of these projects have been her work as a digital arts fellow for Arts for Life (a non-profit in Winston Salem, North Carolina) that creates artistic experiences for chronically sick children bound to their hospital beds, or her work with dance and movement faculty, Christina Soriano, who works with Alzheimer and Parkinson patients to help them with mobility and balance issues or teaming up with a documentary crew working on a project that brought together blues musicians with unhoused members of the community from Greensboro, North Carolina to create a blues music album. These are just a few examples of how Sukhada has used her media production skills to create projects that have helped the community at large. She firmly believes that her filmmaking practices in all of its forms should ultimately work towards bringing positive changes in the community around her.
