Senior Instructor, Shari Hodgson, won a lifetime award from the Winter Park city council. In an interview, Hodgson talks about what this incredible moment means to her, her favorite things about being on the council as well as challenges faced. Congratulations Shari!
What award did you receive?
“Winter Park Chamber of Commerce “Lifetime Achievement” award.”
What does this moment mean to you?
“I joined the Chamber in 1990. I was invited to attend the Chamber’s first “Leadership Winter Park” nine-month class. After finishing, I served on the Leadership Alumni Council. In 2000, I developed and continue to facilitate the Chamber’s Youth Leadership Program that is now in its 24th year, offers two week-long sessions, and supports 14 Central Florida high schools. I have received two Volunteer of the year awards for serving on the Chamber’s Autumn Art Festival and Christmas Pancake Breakfast that raises money for Youth Leadership Program scholarships.”

“24 years.”
What are some of your favorite moments from being on the council?
“Watching the Christmas adopted families receive gifts, raising money for Central Florida Schools, watching Youth Leaders learn about the importance of community service by volunteering at Ronald McDonald House.”
What are some challenges the Winter Park City council faces?
“Fund raising to support Youth Leadership scholarships.”
