As 2014 Arrives, Formula 1 Ushers Itself Into a New Era

It is obvious many people that ever hear the term “Formula 1” can relate it to motor racing, because F1 is the fastest and most technologically involved motor sport in the world. It is the sport where the most skilled, and most fearless drivers in the world are pinned against one another for ultimate glory. So, as the title suggests, why is 2014 so significant? Allow me to explain.

As it happens, the 2014 season brings the biggest change in regulations we have seen in many years, and it all starts with the cars’ power plants. Out goes the 2.4 liter V8 and in comes the new 1.6 liter turbocharged V6 engine. Also, Formula One cars will now be more dependent on their KERS systems, which is effectively an electric system which boosts the power output of the engine. Since the new engines are smaller, the new KERS system will have to play a much more significant role in the race and in qualifying.

Other changes also take place in the outside of the cars, starting with the nose, which will be lowered drastically for safety reasons, in contrast with the high noses of the previous V8-powered cars. Also, the side air intakes will be larger to feed air into that turbo and also to help cool that KERS system which also creates high temperatures.

The question now is, what does this mean for the drivers? Well, for starters, the cars will be a bit more of a handful, since the turbocharged power plant will produce four times the torque than the previous machines, which will make them far more susceptible to spinning off. Also, the higher dependency on the KERS system means that the drivers will have to strategize in what part of the track it will be best to use that system.

What does it mean for fans like me? Thankfully, it means a big shake up in the grid. The last four F1 seasons have been won by Sebastian Vettel and dominated by his Red Bull-Renault team, which has made the sport very predictable, and – not to insult the greatness of Vettel and Red Bull – kind of boring. Thus, this big change in regulation should bring some new expectations and also some new hope for fans of other teams which have been subordinates to the utter dominant Red Bull.

There are some that are worried that the cars will be too ugly, or that the racing will be too slow in comparison to how it was, and thus unexciting. I beg to differ, though. To me, the most exciting era of Formula 1 was the early 90s, the era where the great Ayrton Senna began his reign as the king of F1. And during that era, the cars had very low noses, and most importantly, turbocharged V6 engines, just like they will have again this year. This brings me hope that this new era of F1 will at least come with flashbacks of the brilliant racing we saw in the early 1990s.

Blue meth portrayed in hit TV show “Breaking Bad” comes to life in New Mexico

The award-winning AMC drama “Breaking Bad” which ended its spectacular five season run last fall, had captured the attention and hearts of millions of viewers. Not only that, the premise of the fictional TV show seems to be coming to life in the state of New Mexico, where the popular TV show was set and filmed. Federal investigators have reported that blue meth is on the rise, however this knock-off of the “pure meth” that was portrayed on the show is no more pure than colorless products. In order to make the meth more marketable to consumers, cooks and dealers have to cut the product with different chemicals to give the meth its blue tint. These chemicals have been reported to make users sick as well.

Kevin Abar, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security in Albuquerque, told Albuquerque TV station KOB-TV, “It’s truly bad…We’re concerned that individuals may find it sexy and want to try it and utilize the drug and it’s very addictive.” Newer users may be more inclined to try the blue meth due to its portrayal in the series.

However, this is not the first time that the blue meth has come to light in the United States. In 2010, authorities in Kansas City, Missouri warned that blue meth was appearing around the city, after recovering small amounts of the product during the arrests of drug dealers. Elsewhere, in Oklahoma City during September of last year, police made a drug bust, uncovering 40 pounds of blue meth worth about $2.3 million.

My Thoughts On Why Having Beauty Days Is Crucial For Every Woman

When do woman feel the most confident with themselves? It’s when they just get out of the salon and got their hair done, or nails done, eye brows threaded, etc. Women all over the world automatically feel more attractive and relaxed after they pamper themselves.

The exact opposite happens to women when they are not fixed up. When my hair is dirty I instantly feel less attractive. I just want to go home and take a long shower and wash my hair as soon as possible. I would dread running into someone I knew with dirty hair. Not that anyone actually lives up to this rule 24/7, but I always say “Never leave the house looking in a way that you wouldn’t want an ex-boyfriend to see you”. When my nails are chipping I just spend time chipping them more to get all the paint off so it won’t look so ugly.

Now, when my hair is freshly washed and I feel like it looks great, I feel like I can conquer the world and I would gladly run into any ex of mine. When my nails are painted, it makes me happy to look at them and I feel more delicate and feminine. Oh, and toe nails should ALWAYS be painted, no excuses. It lasts 2 weeks and feet look 100 times more attractive. Going to the gym is also another form of pampering yourself even though some people may see it more as torture. Going to the gym has so many positive benefits and no matter how much you hated that work out while you were doing it, you always feel great and glad that you got up and did it every time it’s over.

Balling on a budget? That’s okay. You don’t have to go to a salon at all for any of this. You can enjoy an at home facial, wash and style your own hair, paint your nails with your favorite colors and why not? It’s so much fun to pamper yourself and have a beauty day by yourself listening to your favorite artist or with your girlfriends gossiping all night and drinking wine. I am a firm believer that every woman should keep up with her appearance because confidence is the best quality that I insist every woman should have. With the proper attitude, you can accomplish anything you want in life.

Two orcas are transported to Sochi for 2014 Winter Olympic Games

Whale advocates claim two orcas have been captured in the waters north of Japan and are being transported to a Sochi aquarium. The aquarium is to display the animals specifically for the Winter Olympic Games to increase tourism spending.

Locals and activists are petitioning against the capture of the whales and demand that the whales not be put on display. An online Russian petition has over 100,000 signatures already and the games are not for another number of weeks.

The petition aims to reach the Olympic International Committee. It urges the committee to persuade the abductors to release the whales back into the waters where they were captured.

Scientists have proven that orca whales live shorter lives in captivity and experience sensory deprivation. The captured whales do not act as they would in the wild. They are torn away from their families and pods where they are used to interacting daily for their survival.

The documentary “Blackfish” that showcases the ill treatment of orcas in the SeaWorld establishments heightened the awareness of the abuse these animals face in captivity.

Heavy criticism and boycotts of the SeaWorld parks has continued since the documentary aired.

It will be interesting to see if the Olympic International Committee takes a stance or whether it will ignore the matter completely.

Tom Brady, New England Patriots Face A Familiar Foe in Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos for the AFC Championship

This Sunday marks the 15th time Tom Brady and Peyton Manning will match wits on the gridiron and in the spirit of cliches, this one’s for all the marbles. This years’ AFC Championship pits together the storied franchises of the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots. Now while everybody’s talking Brady/Manning and rightfully so, there are going to be plenty of other factors responsible for how this game plays out. It’s a perfect day for football in Colorado, sunny skies seems to be the forecast along with a chilly 19 degree temperature because…well playoff football.

We got a classic David v. Goliath showdown here with the super-powered Broncos and run-of-the-mill Patriots. To me it’s gonna come down to, and as always, turnovers. These are two of the greatest quarterbacks of all time so any given possession they are liable to recreate greatness and put points up on the board, so it’s a good chance you’re gonna lose if you keep giving either one of these guys the ball. Peyton’s record against Brady in the playoffs is 1-2, I believe he ties it up today. I really do not believe that the Patriots are really that good , I think they’ve really just been overachieving and sooner or later someone is going to bring them back down to reality. I mean JULIAN EDELMAN HAS 105 CATCHES! Is that not just CRAZY to anyone else? I think the Broncos have too many weapons for the Patriots defense to keep up with, especially since in their 1st meeting Julius Thomas was inactive, the highest scoring offense in NFL History will eventually break out. Although I don’t think too highly of this New England team, I have supreme faith in Tom Brady and zero trust in Denver’s defense so I am certain he shall make a game out of this. And history tells me the home team always wins this one. My FINAL score is: Broncos 27 Patriots 24.

Whatever the result of this game we should really appreciate the excellence and continued greatness of Peyton Manning & Tom Brady. Especially since this could be the last duel between these two ever; Peyton’s considering retiring at season’s end. But this game marks the end of an era, the last big stand in the twilight of 2 great careers, the icings on the proverbial cupcakes. No one is leaving this game a real loser, but one can can catapult himself to maybe the status of Greatest Of All Time. This game is definitely the sunset on a great era of the NFL, but it couldn’t have been written better than this.

UCF Women’s Basketball loses to USF 38-63

Last night I attended the UCF Women’s basketball team as they played our rivals at UCF. Now usually I don’t attend college basketball games, but I made an exception since I was invited by a classmate. What i witnessed was nothing short of a complete lack of focus from our team, and a total domination from the USF Team.

UCF was plagued with missed shots, poor shot selection, and a really slow moving defense that didn’t defend the perimeter and barely protected the paint. Not only that but it took us almost 6 minutes to score our first point! Everything else was just missed shots and missed lay ups. I know I’m coming across as a little harsh toward our team, but they didn’t even look like they were in sync.

At times it did seem like we were going to start getting our groove back, but then it would be taken away when they weren’t playing tighter defense. i know that it must have been an off game for them because I’ve been to their games before and they never played this bad. I believe That this could just be an off-game for them, but i just expected better playing from them especially since we are playing our rivals.

Now to give the people reading this something to make them smile so it does not seem like a complete negative article. Yesterday at the game the band was playing the star spangled banner and as every Knight knows, when they get to the part of “gave through to the Night” every one is supposed to scream Knights. We do it at the Football games and I’ve done it at the basketball games as well. So when the part comes up I scream Knights to only realize that I’m the only  idiot screaming it.

I hope you are able to enjoy it because I’m still embarrassed by it.

Former NBA Star Dennis Rodman checks himself into Rehab

Former NBA Star Dennis Rodman checks himself into an unidentified 28-30 day alcohol rehabilitation center Wednesday, January 15th, following a recent trip from North Korea, where he received backlash for comments made while in Korea. 52 year old Dennis Rodman was under fire as he was criticized for his relationship with Kim Jong Un, North Korea’s dictator. He was in North Korea where he led a team of Former NBA players in a exhibition game and also said the game was a “birthday present” and went as far as singing Happy Birthday to the dictator in a packed stadium.

In the past Dennis Rodman has been known for his excessive tattoos and piercings and his outrageous behavior. Rodman has been battling his addiction to alcohol for a long-time and this current situation caused his drinking to escalate to a level unseen before. His agent, Darren Prince, prompted Rodman to enter into the rehabilitation after his drinking got worse in hopes of showing his concerns to his client on an intimate level. Rodman went on to blame the alcohol consumption for his comments and apologize for them but did not apologize for his visit to North Korea.

Rodman was criticized for not using his friendship with the dictator to influence the release of Kenneth Bae, an American Missionary/ political prisoner who is being held on Anti-State charges in North Korea. Dennis Rodman should be allowed to travel freely just like any other American citizen who does not have celebrity status. The purpose of the trip was to play in a basketball game and he did just that. Hopefully the former star Dennis will bounce back healthier and pursue a life free of alcohol.

AFC Title: Brady seeks fourth Super Bowl ring

Tom Brady sat on the bench for two years at the University of Michigan as a college             quarterback. He didn’t receive much playing time and wasn’t very noticeable coming out of high school. Now, the sixth rounder from the 2000 NFL Draft is seeking his fourth   championship ring and is one win away from playing in his sixth Superbowl. Tom Brady has been selected to the pro bowl nine times, he won the Most Valuable Player award twice, and is the Patriots all time leader in passing touchdowns, completions, yards, and career wins.

Before I begin, who do you think is a better quarterback? Peyton Manning or Tom Brady? Well, many would say Brady because he has more championship rings than Manning. This is going to be yet another interesting match up between these two future Hall of Famers going at it for sixty minutes. This is no surprise that these two quarterbacks are back in the title game because they know what it takes it get there. Now, the question remains: Can Tom Brady get back to the Superbowl and win it?

Tom Brady is most known for his crucial moments when his team isn’t winning. So to answer the question, Yes, I can see New England getting back to the Superbowl and winning it; however, the Patriots can’t take Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos for granted. I’ve watched Peyton Manning for many years even when he when he played for the Indianapolis Colts. Although he’s very comfortable standing tall in the pocket, he releases the ball so quickly that defenders don’t have the opportunity to try to get a sack. Manning is a smart quarterback who’s able to read defenses. If the Patriots plan on winning this game, the defense must get Peyton Manning out of his comfort zone. They also need to score points. Peyton confuses defenses with audibles, and if I were the defensive coordinator for New England, I would try to do the same to see if I could knock him off balance.

The Patriots will definitely be the favorite to win the AFC Title game. However, the Denver Broncos are going to come out with a chip on their shoulder and try to pull out an upset. This game will come down to the team who commits the least turnovers and who’s executing on the offensive side of the football. In my opinion, I see the Patriots winning this football game.
