UCF Head Coaching Rumors Swirl

With the UCF Knights catastrophic season finally at an end, the head coaching hunt can really begin to heat up. With long-time head coach George O’Leary retiring mid-season and interim head coach Danny Barrett not expected to stay, UCF will definitely begin to look outside of central Florida for their next head coach. Rumors have begun to swirl that Mario Cristobal, Randy Shannon or Dino Barbers could head the UCF football team next season.

Currently Dino Barbers appears to be the most probably candidate. A product of Baylor’s Art Briles, Dino Barbers has been known for his prolific offenses. Currently as head coach of Bowling Green Dino Barbers has configured one of the most potent offenses in the entire FBS. UCF could certainly use an offense boost following a season where touchdowns were scarce.

Next on the list is University of Florida coordinator Randy Shannon. Randy Shannon would certainly be the most flashy hire on the list as he has coaching experience at the University of Miami and the University of Florida. Randy Shannon’s pro-style offense also fits perfectly at UCF and no major overhauls would need to take place during the off-season.

The last candidate whose name has appeared from multiple sources is Mario Cristobal. Cristobal spent time as Florida International University’s head coach where he led the team to two bowl appearances and record stadium attendance and multiple big time recruits. Cristobal is a hard recruiter and would be a perfect fit in central Florida where UCF struggles to keep recruits away from Florida State and the University of Florida.

UCF’s next coach certainly has a lot on the line for the school. With a dismal season ending, another one could mean a total collapse of the football program. A lot is on the line this next season and UCF is feeling the heat.

NBA Great Announces Retirement

After everyone knew this was the last season for the NBA future Hall of Famer, Kobe Bryant, he gave NBA fans a first, a poem, to announces his retirement.

His poem goes:

“You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream
And I’ll always love you for it.
But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer.
This season is all I have left to give.
My heart can take the pounding
My mind can handle the grind
But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.”

His poem shows NBA fans that he has given everything he could to the sport. Bryant sits atop of the Lakers record book in career points, steals, field goals made and games played, among others. Overall, Bryant is third on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, having passed Michael Jordan just last season. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver commented on Bryant’s retirement saying, “I join Kobe’s millions of fans around the world in congratulating him on an outstanding NBA career and thank him for so many thrilling memories.”

He’s played his entire 20-year NBA career with the Lakers, making 17 All-Star teams, 15 All-NBA teams and 12 All-Defensive teams. The Lakers won five championships during his career, the first three coming in tandem with Shaq and the second run built around Bryant and Pau Gasol.

It’s safe to say even though this is closing a chapter in the long history of the L.A. Lakers, I’m sure Kobe Bryant has his hands in the future of the team as well.

Man Shoots Up Planned Parenthood Clinic On Black Friday, Possibly Motivated By Recent Videos Distributed Online

This year’s black Friday turned out to be much darker than imagined for the citizens of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  On Friday, a lone man walked into a Planned Parenthood clinic and began firing weapons and taking civilian hostages.  Upon the arrival of law enforcement, the man began firing at officers and killed one officer.  Two civilians were also killed and 9 others were wounded.  The altercation lasted over 6 hours and finally ended with the suspect surrendering himself to the police.

The suspect arrested at the scene is a 57 year old man named Robert Lewis Dear.  A recent resident of Colorado, Dear originally lived in the Carolinas and has a small history of run-ins with the police.  He has been previously accused of domestic assault, animal cruelty, and being a peeping tom.  He was never convicted on any of these charges.  Recent neighbors of his say that they never knew a lot about him except for a past occasion where he was distributing anti-Obama pamphlets to neighbors.

No official motive for the crime has been concluded but Dear admitted to authorities after his arrest that he has anti-abortion and anti-government beliefs.  He was also reportedly making remarks to officers during his arrest about “baby parts”.  Many people are putting the pieces together and claiming that Dear is referencing the “sting operation” videos about Planned Parenthood that have been recently circulated on the internet.  Over the last few months, 8 videos have been distributed online that purport to show representatives from Planned Parenthood illegally selling aborted fetal tissue on the black market.  The videos were produced by an anti-abortion coalition and have been heavily criticized for being misleading and highly edited to distort meaning.

UCF Offense Worst Ever In Major League College Football

Ucf finished the season 0-12. This was the worst offense performance for a season by any team in major league college football. The team, was short on seniors and had issues with injuries and suspensions and had their coach , George O’Leary,  retire mid way through the season. At a winless 0-8 and pressure for O’Leary to step down, the coach retired just two years after a first bowl win.

UCF President John Hitt said in a statement that he expects the new head coach will come from outside of the UCF program.

“This season has been difficult, and I support George’s decision to retire now so our program can begin planning for the future,” Hitt said.

Fans had little to celebrate this season but were given free beer from a local bar for the whole year. The Basement, located in Orlando, gave $60,000 worth of free beer saying they would keep the beer free until UCF won a game. Fans poured in and the bar kept its promise and handed out a total of 15,000 free beers.

Fans are hoping to have more than beer to celebrate next year. Rumors have said that Bowling Green coach Dino Babers is looking to take the job as head coach of UCF. Fans are looking to rally behind their new coach and come back from one of the worst performances in college football history.

Newborn Baby Found Buried Alive

A newborn baby, no more than 2 days old was found buried alive  this past week in Los Angeles neighborhood. Sisters, Angelica Blount and Evangelina McCrary were taking a walk along a bike path next to the riverbed  on 136th Street and Slater  around 4 p.m. Saturday, when they heard a muffled cry. McCray asked her sister if she could hear the sound of a baby crying and Blount was unsure, saying it appeared to her more like the sound of a cats meow, but McCray was sure it was a human cry, “‘No, it’s a baby crying.'” she told her sister. And that’s when they called 911. The miracle baby girl was found under a foot of asphalt and debris that police say was deliberately placed over her.

When police uncovered the baby girl, they found she was very cold and covered in what seemed to be a medical blanket which lead officials to believe she was born at a hospital or other medical center.

This baby is truly a miracle baby. As of now the baby is in the hospital and  in stable condition, but as LA Sheriff’s Dept. Sgt. Marvin Jaramilla told Journalist Saturday, that if the child had spent another night out there under those harsh conditions they are sure she wouldn’t have survived. According to CNN, ” If the parents are found, they will face attempted murder and child endangerment charges.”

For future parents wanting to give up their child, as awful as that may seem, LA County supervisor, Don Kabe told CNN of a the program called “Baby Safe Surrender Program,” which allows parents to hand over their baby at any LA county hospital or sheriffs department without being questioned.

Short Term Head Injuries Lead to Long Term Brain Disease

This past August, the NFL lost a one of their beloved members, Frank Gifford. A NFL Hall of Famer, former New York Giants running back and a Monday night football analyst, Gifford passed late summer at the age of eighty-four. Originally, his sudden death was chalked up to mere natural causes at the time. This Wednesday, however the idea of natural causes resulting in Giffords death, went out the window. Apparently, his family decided to have his brain tested before finally laying him to rest. Due to recent inquiries in the media, and an increasing amount of retired and professional football players reporting head and brain injuries, researchers are trying to figure out if the head injuries received in football games and practices, actually affect the players in the long term.

Apparently, test results showed that Gifford actually had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, one of the brain diseases thought to be tied to being hit in the head repeatedly; a disease that also seems to plague many retired professional football players. Giffords family decided to have him tested after they had rising suspicions that he may have suffered from the disease, it doesn’t help that Gifford actually sat out the entire season of 1961 after suffering a head injury that left him lying unconscious on the field. Gifford’s family is trying to shine light on finding a solution to one of the most urgent problems in the NFL. They hope to help others, just as Gifford did.

How to: Make the Best Chicken Noodle Soup in the Crockpot

Greetings, cooks! As December approaches, the temperature finally starts to drop, thank goodness! Today, I’ll be sharing my favorite chicken noodle soup recipe. Typically, making soup is a lengthy process, but as always, the crockpot makes it 100 times easier.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 1/2 cups carrots, chopped

2. 2 ribs celery, chopped

3. 1 medium cooking onion, peeled and sliced

4. 2 slices ginger, peeled

5. 2-3 stocks fresh rosemary

6. 8 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

7. 1 container low sodium chicken broth

8. 1 cup white cooking wine (Optional but highly recommended)

9. Coarse salt and ground pepper to taste

10. 2 cups egg noodles

Instructions:

  1. Spray crockpot with non-stick spray
  2. Chop all of the vegetables
  3. Add carrots, celery, onion, ginger and rosemary.
  4. Arrange chicken on top of vegetables.
  5. Add broth, salt and pepper.
  6. Cook on low for 8 hours.
  7. Remove chicken, shred with two forks and put back into pot.
  8. Add noodles and cook on high for 20-30 minutes.

Serve with sandwiches, biscuits, or in a bread bowl.

This recipe is great because you can chop the veggies the night before, wake up in the morning and dump everything in the crockpot before you go to work, come home throw the noodles in while you change and get comfortable, and have a nice warm dinner ready!

Stay warm this holiday season, cooks!

Shooting at a Planned Parenthood on Black Friday Leaves Three Dead

It was a typical day at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs on Friday morning until a little after 11, when gunshots were heard from the parking lot. The shooter then came into the building where police officers quickly responded. A standoff unfolded, and lasted nearly 6 hours. Police officers surrounded the building, and the busy Colorado city with over 400,000 residents was put at standstill. Officers urged citizens to stay inside nearby businesses. Roadways surrounding Planned Parenthood were also blocked for hours as the shootout commenced.

The shooter eventually surrendered, after killing three individuals and leaving nine others wounded. The nine people that were injured included five police officers, fortunately all were able to leave the scene safely and are apparently in good condition. The officer that was killed was 44 year-old Garret Swasey, who worked for the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs police department. It has not been confirmed if the two other murdered victims were staff members or patients. The suspected gunman is 57 year-old Robert Lewis Dear, and he will appear in Court on Monday without bond. Witnesses described his behavior as calm, yet crazy.

Planned Parenthoods provide reproductive healthcare and education to men and women nationwide. Abortions are one of the services provided by the company, which has led to scrutiny from anti-abortion groups. These groups have made claims that Planned Parenthoods’ sell fetal organs for profit. Since September at least 3 Planned Parenthoods have been vandalized in the United States. Officials have not been able to pin a specific motive for Dear’s attack on Friday.

Turkey shoots down Russian jet fighter, Putin threatens retaliation

This past Wednesday, Turkey shot down a Russian jet fighter via anti-aircraft missile near the Turkish-Syrian border. There are two prevailing accounts of the story that led to this politically-significant event.

According to Turkey, Russia’s presence in Syria has had a history of flying over Turkish sovereign territory. The Turks warn them over the airwaves, typically to little to no response, and the Russian jet fighters leave the region. However, this time, the Russian jet fighter did not leave after exactly 10 warnings, at which point the order was given to shoot down the aircraft. Footage has been released of the incident, as well as recording of the radio warnings.

According to Russia, the jet fighter did no such thing and was clearly over Syrian soil, not even close to crossing the border. Russians claims that the attack was also calculated and premeditated in order to make a political statement against Russia. No evidence supporting their claims has been produced as of yet, and there is no reason to believe that there will – Russia has traditional been very protective of mobilization information, often deceitful, especially when one looks at precedents like the Ukrainian conflict.

Details are scattered, but reports also claim that one of the two pilots was killed whilst parachuting from the crash after ejecting from the cockpit. Killing parachutists while they are in mid-descent is punishable by international law and considered a very serious offense. There is no official confirmation of any of these events, and more details will follow.

Now, the Syrian conflict is hotter than ever, and the tension is forcing the hands of states throughout the world. While the United States and Turkey attempt to fund rebels and topple Bashar al-Assad on the grounds of human rights violations, Russia and Iran struggle to prop up the current government. Meanwhile, the third-party ISIS sabotages all plans to keep the conflict civil and less chaotic, only worsening the dire situation. With Putin on a verbal warpath and Erdogan denying all accusations, NATO will be strained.

Five People Shot During a Black Lives Matter Protest

Five individuals were shot at a black lives matter rally in Minnesota. Racial tensions in the city of Minneapolis have been off the charts after police shot and killed a twenty-four year old African American man named Jamar Clark about a week and a half ago; that incident triggered the black community to start a justice rally immediately after the event.  To protesters’ surprise, the rally was interrupted by three men who opened fire at them shooting at least five folks who were participating in the rally. Witnesses say around a dozen protesters tried to push back the three men who opened fire at the crowd.

People in Minneapolis woke up the next day to headlines like police seeking three white male suspects in the shooting of five black lives matter protesters. No one was surprised at the published news headlines. Moreover, police claim Jamar Clark (the reason of the rally) was a suspect in an assault case. The twenty-four year old fought with police officials leading to the gun fire that killed him. Eyewitnesses came out and said Clark was handcuffed during the shooting. State investigators announced the officer had no body or dashboard cam; however, cellphones and surveillance cameras captured portions of the encounter between Clark and the police.

Protesters in Minneapolis are demanding the release of those videos and will not stop their protest until they get what they want.  The protesters participating in the black live matter rally in Minnesota will continue their uproar until justice is served and say they will not be intimidated by the incident they faced, the event has made them stronger and closer to serve justice to their community.
